I don't even know how to describe how much Neil's music meant to me! . It was my spirituality of the times! Wailing around a campfire in the Alberta Mountains, unifying, healing, and freeing us! I still love to listen and sing to his songs, they go beyond the music and touch the soul. Thank you Neil Young, the appreciation is beyond words!

Sure glad I was able to catch one of the Stills-Young Band shows in 1976. Saw Neil again just a few years ago with Promise of the Real, and it was amazing. Solo acoustic set on a Martin, followed by blazing electric songs on Old Black, culminating in feedback workouts on long jams towards the end of the night. For all of Neil's eccentricities, it occured to me that this is (one version anyway) of what ageing well looks like for an old rocker. Long May You Run indeed!

Met Neil Young at the Old Time Pickin' Parlor in Nashville one afternoon in '77. He picked out this cherry sunburst thinline Gibson thing that had round holes in the top but no soundhole. It looked like the prototype of a huge mistake. I'm playing a 55 Martin D-28 I eas thinking about buying. I didn't recognize him at first when he sat down across from me. He was wearing a John Deere mesh pulled down over his eyes. I was playing some bluegrassy thing in A and he starts playing along. Then I hear somebody playing a dobro back behind me. This went on for 4 or 5 minutes. When we stopped he asked, "Whatahyah think of this? Sounds kinda old-timey, doncha think?" I said, "You really wanna know what I think?" He said, "Yeah, I'm thinkin' about buyin' it." Always the diplomat, I replied, "I think it sounds like sht." He looked at me square in the face and started laughing. Says, "Hey Ben, this guy thinks this guitar sounds like sht. lol Ben says, "Well he's right it DOES sound like sht." They laughed, I laughed and all the customers in the place started to laugh, too. I looked around and recognized Ben Keith and it hit me in the gut. My head snapped around and there he was. Neil fckin' Young and he was smiling...at ME. lol He just said, "Hey man, I appreciate your honesty. I've got more money than sense, sometimes." Ben says, "Sometimes?" They both laugh and Neil hangs that pos back up. "Check you later, man. You're a good player." He and Ben walk out and vanish like a couple apparitions. RIP, Ben Keith.

He’s really right on about smoking grass and listening to music. You don’t need it, but!!!! It can do these things. So can caffeine kinda, if a diff type of way. Or a good chicken thigh. Or sleep deprivation. Or physical exercise. Or hours of meditation. Or sunbathing.... the body is amazing. So is the brain. The man is a genius though. We know that. And. AND. This is the man who inducted Paul McCartney into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Paul def still smokes grass!

This is interesting to hear Dan Rather interviewing some great and seasoned musicians for AXS. I haven’t watched tv in years, so I can’t remember where he came from - but he asks good questions and he’s cool in an old fashioned way - he’s mellow and genuinely interested. “Hey hey, my my: rock and roll will never die”. I still like Neil Young. Someone has to stick it to Uncle Sam and call him out on his bs. There’s more to life than follow the rules. I mean, sure don’t hurt people obviously - but man I don’t need someone to mandate it and otherwise shove morality down my throat.

How about his whole twist-off with selling out to Big Pharma??? Yeah, for all his "stickin' it to the man" rhetoric early on.......turns out he was pretty pro-establishment after all.

Every once in a while these rock "Stars" re-record their past hits in order to extend their copywrites. In 2009 I was asked to play Violin, Viola and Cello in a recording studio in Phoenix to improvise to his Cowgirl in the Sand. After several hours of me writing down my own improv and playing it later, I heard my stuff on the radio after he re-mastered and re-released it with my backup string parts. I never got a penny in Royalties!

It's copyrights, not "copywrites". You're telling us, you're a professional studio musician who doesn't know how to spell that word? Neil has never re-recorded and re-released the "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" album with strings on "Cowgirl". It would make absolutely no musical sense to have strings added to that song, since it's a guitar-driven jam with extended guitar solos. Also, that song is included on several of his live albums, including "Road Rock Vol. 1" from 2000. No need to re-record the studio version in 2009. Neil released the "Archives Vol. 1 1963 - 1972" box set in 2009, with three versions of "Cowgirl In The Sand". The studio version is the original from the 1969 "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" album. The two live versions are Neil by himself with an acoustic guitar, at Massey Hall, Toronto from 1971 - and a 16-minute Crazy Horse band jam from the Fillmore East in NYC in 1970. None of these versions have any violins, violas, or cellos on them. I just checked, in case there was something I forgot since I had last listened to them. I have the box set right here, next to my desk. Post a Discogs link to the album, your version is supposedly on, please! - Okay, forget it! I did a quick Google search. If you are the Ron Wade I think you might be, you need help from mental health professionals. I know a little bit about schizophrenia and acute psychoses - and what you've posted on LinkedIn shows clear signs there might be something like that going on with you. Please seek help! Getting caught lying in RU-vid comments is the least of your problems. I mean it, you need help!

Grass is pretty much legal now. I quit everything cold turkey 35 years ago, I don't miss it at all. Everyone makes their own decisions, I decided my consciousness and relationships suffered from using substances. Anyway, back in the day live concerts weren't my thing. I love the generation Neil Young is a part of. Those guys shaped my life more than anything and I never lost that. Today my gift to others is to go farther. To evolve from the early freedom of the hippy consciousness and step into more love and oneness for all. One World. Peace and love.

You said "it's just the way I am" it's the way to chose for you to be, the cool breeze is your Holly Spirit that lives inside of you, if you provide a hospitable loving environment it will stay with you taking very good care of you, if you become unfriendly, hostile and bitter abusing your vessel (body) with a huge gust of wind will leave you never to return, with it goes so does the child inside" of you dies and your left feeling naked to the World all your joy is gone and you are left empty with tombstone eyes never to smile or feel the goodness of grace ever agian, this is the only friend you will ever need..

For all the haters’ just look at what he has accomplished and also look at where he is now’ it’s pretty safe to say he has got himself to a far more comfortable life and has a far better understanding of a lot of things in the music business and in certain parts of life than a lot of people’ love him or hate him’ u can’t deny he hasn’t achieved some amazing accomplishments in his life so far

@@Bill_Woo hmmmm’ that response just alludes to the fact that including someone like hitler in this comment allows it to be said about many other people of merit or accomplishments’ I tend to just focus on the point I’m making and the person it is about as to be careful not to make things irrelevant by involving others that have no relative association to the initial comment’ I suggest making yourself a sandwich and then running yourself a bath’ thanks for chiming in tho 🙂
