Neil Young performs "Heart of Gold" with Willie Nelson at the Farm Aid concert in Louisville, Kentucky on October 1st, 1995. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Just look at the way Willie Nelson watches admiringly as Neil plays the harmonica. He's almost incredulous at how he does it. Neils voice is not as strong as it was but his harmonica playing is still ace.

Neil young is one of the greatest singers in history ive listened to his music for at leats 25 years now and when you hear his music it makes you think back over the years and how things have changed over the years if only all the music was like it was back years ago listing to neil young the world would be better than it is now days now the way things have changed kids dont listen and do like they used to now the kids are trying to tell the parent what to do and not the parents telling the kids what to do listen to neil young and listen clostly to the words in all his songs

One time in Illinois back in the early eighties, I ventured down the State to my friends Dads farm. We were out banging gears in an old GTO when I made a nasty comment about the farmers not leaving tree lines along the roads. He said to me; "Don't bad mouth the farmer with yer mouth full!" The last time I saw neil was in Hyde Park. When he finally finished an extended version of Rockin in the free world which was beyond excellent.Then he came back for the encore. A day in the life. Suddenly an unknown person came onto stage...a sudden wave of recognition swept the crowd into a frenzy. It was Paul McCartney about to perform this song live on stage for the first time. And what a performance Neil shredded every string playing the orchestral trippy bit. It ended with Neil and Paul playing on xylophone an ethereal and beautiful ending.

I remember owning a 45 record of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" which I played over and over. I also owned his album with the same name - can't remember if had gone from records to cassettes then. One of the most meaningful songs ever written that touches our hearts with many emotions.

Anyone who's ever been in a pickin' party will recognise the look in Willy's eyes at the opening of this clip. He is watching Neil's left hand and working out which chords to use. Watch his hand and see him head to a chord and change his mind. Even shakes his head when he went the wrong way. I have slapped double bass in bands when I didn't know a single song they played, but my guitar knowledge let me hang in there, watching the singer's hand as he chorded out the rhythm part on an acoustic.

I was watching him the whole time, seemed like he was lost tbh, and towards the end of the song he's got his fingers way up by the 7th fret on the high E. Seemed like he just gave up and decided to make it look like he was doin something. Not knocking on Willie in any way, like you said it's hard to jump in and jam with another band.
