How claw machines work: Example: Toy cost £10 Each go is 50p 20 to pay full price Once full price is payed from various people playing he claw, it becomes strong and actually lets you win
I CAN'T be the only one who thinks these machines are a total scam.. Like at a hotel I was staying in in Oslo a few weeks ago they had one that had iPods, iPhones etc, and needless to say there was ALWAYS a line for that machine, but no one ever won ANYTHING.
They r rigged!! But i saw some teens around my place who mastered the string technique and end up hoarding tons of stuffed animals lol!! The precision was insane xD
that isn't a rigged claw.a rigged claw will have to pay out any where after from 10 to 20 tries depending on state law.a skill claw will only be winnable by those who are skilled and anyone who tries at one who isn't will almost owes lose unless they are lucky.
+Lars Stoerloes Japan's claw machines are actually not that bad. There's a bunch of claw machine places around Akihabara in Japan and the prizes were pretty easily obtainable (Some were not, of course lol). There's a lot of machines that depend on knocking the prize into the pit rather than actually picking them up. And you heard in the video, workers will actually re-place toys to make it easier to grab My brother made a profit from winning anime merch from the machines and selling them online
there's laws in the us.also while most think claw plush are cheap they aren't and one attempt is often no where close to the prize cost.for those small 25 cent claw plush they are a dollar and that's just for generic small plush.licensed plush can range from 10 to 20 dollars. also considering that all the ones in japan appear to mostly be licensed and most also don't appear to be claw only plush they most diffidently aren't cheap. but just cause most claws are rigged doesn't mean all are sugar loaf and older claws aren't rigged and rely more on plush placement then rigged games.funnily enough most people complain about completely skilled cranes then they do actual rigged claws cause the rigged claws will sometimes let them win while the skill claw don't.
So fun, Sharla! Even had my mom watching and cheering you guys on! That bag cat was like a slot machine in a casino...you finally walk away and the next person wins! LOL
You know that they are rigged right? The owner of the machine determines how rigged the machine is. There are options like tight grip for the claw every 50 trys and whatnot.
Haha an EPIC adventure! Still can't believe i got the bag cat. Haha i am now addicted to these things! Did you know when i went the next day to a different place the guy that worked there actually told me that the third button is to grab the cat. That's why it was so weak because we kept only lining it up and not grabbing it. Next time. (For the small claw machine)
not all of them.look for older claws and sugar loaf those can't be rigged and are owes skill based.of coarse if you suck like most people you'll blame it all the claw when more often then not the ones who call rigged suck at it.
I love your videos! These videos that show a little snippet of your life are so cozy! It's like a scene from an anime, where the main character and her friends go on a bag cat claw-machine adventure! I absolutely love how dense Tokyo is. Urban density is what creates that magical feeling of hustle and bustle and also makes me feel like there are so many nooks and crannies to explore.
Hey sharla, the point of the UFO catchers is rarely to grab the prize directly >.< you're usually supposed to knock the prize into the chute somehow, which involves either going behind it to try to lift straight so it gets some momentum to slip forwards, using the ufo portion of the grabber to push it down from the front or the top for the smaller prizes. For the bigger prizes, you should aim for the lighter areas of the toy to try to inch it in or just push it in from the top using the head. Hope this helps :D
+Sharla in Japan thanks so much! you replied sooo fast!!! and IKR! I'm literally watching all of your videos right now!!! SO AWESOME!!! You have Neko Astune, desserts and POKEMON!!! You by bumped up to my fav RU-vidr! You are gonna make it 1,000,000 subs, I know it!
I always was confused by this, when ppl ask the staff to move/switch he prize, so u can ask them to move any prize it to make easier?if so how would u ask them?? Im always nervous to say anything xD
+omipon my husband just found a staff person (usually walking around) and pointed at the one he wanted them to move and they did it. We know zero Japanese, so it wasn't too bad!
+omipon the staff in Japan are awesome. Always happy to give you advice on how to win, reposition the prizes... or if you're looking desperate pretty much hang it over the edge for you! As a Brit I tend to graciously accept defeat with these things, whilst simultaniously bottling up my anger and frustation towards the machine that defeated me, but my Japanese friends have no problems with dragging the staff over for a hand :p
+omipon Yeah, employees are usually really helpful! They'll even straight up give you tips on how you're supposed to win. If you can't speak Japanese, you can always just look sad and pantomime. :)
I translated this video into german. Gave it my best. I'd like to do that for every video. I just think thats fair, you are granting us insights into japanese culture, and we provide you with translations in return so everybody is able to understand you and maybe start getting interested in Japan as well :) A friend of mine just started translating into serbian, too. Just a little something i guess :)
I remember when i was little i wanted to play with these so bad and my mom would never let me and now i understand why , they're such a waist of money but they're still fun hehe
I love your videos ^_^ Love that you're also such a beautiful person inside & out. Going to Japan In a couple of months and watching them make me super excited!
Yaaaay! you guys finally caught one though! ~ I feel like catching a pokemon in real life would be more possible than getting lucky in catching those real fast and pokemon don't even exist xD rofl, thanks for sharing Sharla!
I think a lot of people don't udnerstand how those claw machines work. They aren't supposed to grab anything. How would they with only 2 claws? Japanese Claw machines are supposed to push and pull, they need skill or a lot of luck to be won. Also, the prices in Japanese claw machines are much higher quality than in germany for example, that's why some of them might cost so much.
+Kevin Grootaers I think that if you get enjoyment from the game even if you don't win, then it's ok. If you are only unhappy if you don't win, then it is a money waster. Also I think you need to go in with a planned amount of money to spend
+Reformatt Show Hi again! I didn't expect to see you here. I commented on your city guide video of "best places to visit in Milan" about the awesomenest of the toilet flush in Milan. Anyway I am going to Milan next Friday so I am really excited. That aside, i think she spent way too much on the claw machine. Not that i am an expert, but i avoid playing claw machines in the arcade game center. It is quite rigged i think. I usually play the claw machine at secluded location. Like there is just one machine and no one really plays it. It is much easier to win.
few tips from someone who spent way too much on these in Japan :P 1) you can tell where the arms will go down by looking at the furthest left/right point when they're closed. they'll open and the claw parts will move to that part. so you can hook into tags or chains etc with them. 2) try to avoid asking them to reposition it also, you'll notice when ever they do it, they usually reset the payout for the machine, so it's unlikely you'll get anything. also, avoid any machine that you see a staff member touching because they'll usually walk around and reposition them and reset them also. 3) you normally can ask them to swap if you win something from a machine (usually they'll put somewhere if you can't swap), so sometimes it's better to go for the easier one rather than the one you want. 4) with plush stuff, you usually want to push it or tip it, so if the claw is strong enough hit the plush, otherwise usually try aim for the part of the body that is lighter, so that you'll tip it forward. 5) on the two claw ones, you can usually tell when they're gonna pay out by how close the claws are together before you put money in, also, if one arm is higher than the other it is more likely to drop it the opposite direction. (so be cautious if for example the left arm is high and the hole is on the left)
You're friend was lucky enough to get the machine on one of the rare times when the claw doesn't let go! (which they are made to do lol) Congrats to her! I hope she enjoys her bag cat! I want one as well haha
Reminds me of one time at work, we had one of those claw machines. And my co-worker really wanted this elephant one (she really loves them x'D) and i SOMEHOW managed to win it (on the 2nd try, after she tried 10+ times) and I walked up to her with it behind my back, and was like "Guess what, I have a surprise for you!" And she was really curious, so I showed the elephant plushie from behind my back and she had the best reaction ever :'D So worth it. It made me happy to see her so excited over that little plushie, lmao.
I just started watching your channel, and I absolutely LOVE your vlogs! :) claw machines are always so tricky, but hopefully you'll get the Bag Cat next time!
I actually have won a doll by getting the claw stuck on the tag! It was an accident though, so I can't really take credit for it. XD I feel so bad you didn't win! Those machines looked really rough! I hear they adjust the strength of the claw according to the time of day, so maybe if you tried again when it wasn't so busy you'd have better luck.
This was so frustrating and I satisfying to watch thank god for the end or I woulda had to watch twenty other videos of people winning claw machine games
I know how stressful it is when you want a pacific plush from the ufo. so glad you finally one bag kitty. I love atsume neko. I bidded on these plush. I wanted bag kitty too XD. gotta love tubbs as well ^.~
You're not the only one with the addiction of claw machines Sharla! haha one time I saw a Hello Kitty and I wanted it so bad that I spent almost $50 on it. The success is always the best part :)
Hello there!!! I just found your channel o0o I love to play the UFO catcher machines o0o The second one you tried, the 3rd button is to choose when to close the claw. When it goes all the way down it won't have much strength but if you close a little before it will grab better the thing. Cheers from Kumamoto! :D
OMGGG that made me so anxious I kept crossing my fingers xD at the end though Im cheering so loud ahahah it seems odd how sometimes it grabs on for only 2 seconds but then held on for so long when your friend tried
On the 2nd machine you used, you can press the 3rd button to clasp earlier if you want to. so the claws don't touch the floor bit. I've won so much on these machine! I'd love a bag cat too! hehe. Good luck on your quest!
sharla here is some tips... when you drop the claw make sure the claw when they open up they actually line up with any hole you are aiming for. it will be easier. it is unlikely to work when you wan the claw to grab the "hole"/ string when they goes up. i hope you understand my explanation lol xD
Here in Fukuoka are so many Neko Atsume Ufo Catchers! I actually catched the grey one playing with a pink woolen ball, before watching your video about the Game. Then I thought "AAAAAH that's what they're from!" xD
I really enjoy watching people playing Japanese ufo catchers on RU-vid xD It's a hobby of mine for some reason... and certain people are so good at it! I have this thought in my mind that after watching the pros I'll be great at it but I'll end up going to Japan and completely sucking at it
Basically these machines are programmed to not grab (and just do a weak sort of half-assed grab) for however many turns they set it for, and then every X amount of tries, it actually grabs. So tricky!!
Back in 2007 I used to rule at UFO catchers. These days. they've changed them too much, they're so weak! My method back then was to get one side of the claw to slide on the back of the plushie and push it forward. But they're too weak to even do that now. I even got several Chii cats in one go once, it just avalanched. XD
The vending machines in Japan seem more fair then the ones in America TwT It seems like no matter how much you put into an American machine it doesn't want to give you anything XD
+madison nielsen Very, very true!! Same thing with the gumball machine-like things that are at the entrances of stores and such. Japan's equivalent is the gachas and although they're a bit more expensive, it's actual stuff you'd like.
Whenever you play with those claw machines, always look at the angles... Sometimes aim for the head or the higher part of the item (if it's slanting). You'll even have to strategically move the item you want in order to win it.
Hi Sharla! I really enjoyed your lovely videos! Those UFO catcher is very difficult, isn't it! I never been successful :p Hope you will get one next time! x
I remember seeing this junior high school kid in Tokyo walk away with like a SACK of claw game merch. He used the claw to nudge, sweep, and even FLIP objects instead of grabbing. By the way, at 6:41 you needed to center the RIGHT SIDE of the claw to PUSH DOWN the rear of cat, as opposed to using both weak claws to try and grab.
Theres actually a knack to those machines, rather than trying to actually grab the toy directly youve gotta get behind it and use the claw to kinda push it towards you as it closes. It's supposed to be easier to knock them off doing it that way, especially if theyre teetering on the edge :)
