I have been using the Neko Rig a lot recently, the more i use it the more i see it for what it is, and that's a perfect rig in some applications for catching big Perch. the special thing about the Neko rig is just how subtle it is. the Neko rig can be fished into thick vegetation and still have very good hook ups due to the way its rigged, it falls slower than most rigs and just seems to trip up big perch. The neko rig is a lure fishing technique, traditionally a finesse Bass fishing technique.
Give it a try

I've recently got on the Neko rig and have never caught this many perch before. Our waters are heavily fished, so the perch are switched on - but the Neko gets them everytime! It's so good in so many applications, my new go rig to for guaranteed fun.

After getting all my carp gear robbed about 15 years ago and never replacing anything, I've got back into fishing but taking a different approach and gone down the predator route....why have I never before?. Haha.. great videos mate, lovely quality both fish and presentation. Had a 12lbs pike last week, biggest in over 20 years and had my PB perch sunday just gone with my youngest lad of 2lbs 3oz absolutely stoked. Keep the videos coming mate.

@destro1989 3 года назад
Adam, you used to use westin? What rod and reel would you recommend for that 1-8g range. I use a 5-20g for my crankbaits and bigger swims. I love it but I find its potentially a big heavy for lighter application and too large for small streams etc.
@luresonly
@luresonly 3 года назад
I did mate I have a few Westin rods still, honnestly I'm out the loop a little on rods as I make my own and have done for a few years! The molix rods are very good, not cheap but they are quality, I'll be getting a couple at some point the fioretto speciale is a very very good rod and is the rod I would have if I didn't have my custom. The essence is also a great rod! Had ago with one last weekend and they are very responsive. If you are looking for something less expensive take a look at daiwa. They make very good rods for the money. When it comes to reels I use Daiwa I like a 2500 on my light rod but it's quite long and I want the cast distance
@destro1989
@destro1989 3 года назад
@@luresonly Awesome mate, thank you. Like the look of the Fioretto Essence 2-10g. I'll have a look at that. Difficult to know the length I need, I suppose, I fish a medium sized river, it's the Thames but it's not super wide in areas. I'll keep those recommendations in mind. Great video, you should blow up big style mate. Oh and thanks for putting me on the Stick Flex, I had quite a few wasps out yesterday and I'm sure when I locate the big girls they will be there. Tight lines.
@luresonly
@luresonly 3 года назад
@@destro1989 cheers mate! Appriciate that! And yeah the stickflex is a seriously good lure, catches 90 percent of my fish.

Looks a fun method that I will be giving a good bash this Autumn. I left a comment and deleted it just there as I realised I was totally wrong and confusing the Neko rig with the Ned rig 🤣🤣🤣 these American bass angler have so many ways to rig worm and stick bait lures i get confused.
@luresonly

Hi Adam great videos!! I want to start lure fishing for perch properly I have always lure fished for pike but not for perch… what would be a good all round setup for perch e.g length and casting Weight I was looking at the Westin w3 rods I’d be fishing canals and medium sized rivers not sure which to get cheers!!
@luresonly
@luresonly 2 года назад
Great choice mate I made the move over from pike and I have never looked back! I can't stress enough how getting the weight of using lighter gear will help. I think a rod around 2-10g will be a good start point for you. I would start out with small 5cm-7cm shads and light jig heads.
@lar9531
@lar9531 2 года назад
@@luresonly thanks Adam what size reel would match a rod that weight I’ll probably get the westin w3 finesse 7’1 2-10g so and what line … thanks man
@luresonly
@luresonly 2 года назад
I would use a 2000 OR 1000 size, a 2 would probably be a better all rounder, braid wise you want to look at 0.06- 0.08 dia

No worries dude let me know how you get on, perch fishing is much much slower in presentation for the most part, find a small area with good structure or a lot of bait and comb the water methodically

Would you use neko or texas rig on quite difficult canal but with some big fish?

Yes mate Texas is pretty common now but still works well, neko on the other hand most don't use it and it's very effective in difficult venue's

So the idea of the Neko rig is not to keep the bait on the deck? I can barely keep the weight on the deck with 5g.
@luresonly
@luresonly 3 года назад
Generally you want it on the deck or you want to just make contact and then twitch up again. If your fishing a river you will struggle. If it's a still water you should manage it. How deeps is it and what kind of venue ?
@destro1989
@destro1989 3 года назад
@@luresonly It's the Thames, so it's usually between 3-7ft in most places. Perhaps could use Neko in the slacks! Also, whilst I have your attention, what size hook do you use on your stick baits?! Great vids mate.

Why don’t you place your landing net next to you instead of putting it behind you. Every time you need the landing net, you have to reach back, not being able to concentrate on the fish, make it easy on yourself😉.
@luresonly
@luresonly 9 месяцев назад
When competition fishing I have the net attached to me, when I'm filming I'm often moving spots quickly and I'll take my bag off, it's not a massive issue, I don't tend to lose fish
