Nelly Furtado on artistry, empathy, and her five-year hiatus 

Nelly Furtado, the woman who didn't like being famous.

I think that Nelly Furtado deserves respect. She experiments with her music and her albums all sounds really different from each other. She does not play it safe and that´s why I feel in love her music. When I first listened to her music it was because she released the "Loose" album when I was 12-13 years old. However a couple of years later when I became interested in hearing her other albums it gave me a better understanding of her as an singer. She is really creative and I think that it´s pretty impressive how she constantly challenges herself. She might no be commercially succesful right now, but she does not care about that. She makes the music that she wants to make, and her real fans will always be interested in her. She might not have a huge fanbase that she had in the mid 00´s, but I bet that she still has a core fan-base that loves her music, no matter what styles she experiments with. She is an very intelligent and sweet woman. She is not a diva and does not have a bad attitude. She is very calm and positive. :)

I'm sorry but Larry King is such a bad interviewer, I don't understand. "What does your husband do" - 2 seconds of research on Google will show her not married, for one, and why does it matter what he does - and then when she gives him a new angle ("we have a nice blended family") he brushes over it when she's clearly willing to talk more about it... but it doesn't fit the picture he was expecting so he just carries on. Lazy journalism.

I always knew she was an amazing woman, but the level of humility, wows me. She leaves me astounded every time, she embodies so many good qualities, Woah Nelly!

She’s so interested in another really cool stuff like writing which is so beneficial for song-writing, and she seems to be really interested in human beings, connectivity... she seems really open. She’s a beautiful artist, and she has to do what she wants to do, what feels right for her at the moment. Admire her.

From what I understand about Nelly Furtado is that she was pushed into working with Timbaland. Timbaland is amazing at turning artists into pop stars. I don’t think Nelly was ready for that level of stardom. She compromised herself. Whether she was pushed into it or not, she didn’t want to be the pop princess. I mean, you can see it in the performances she did with Timbaland, it was far from what she did before and what she’s done after. I miss the “Loose” version of her. That album was definitely 🔥

Kudos to Nelly for staying humble and composed during this interview. Larry obviously didn't do a very good job on researching about his guest prior to coming on the show, which could've saved both of them from some rather embarrassing moments, but it was a nice interview overall.
