Okay, well excuse the heck outta me for not being a geographic expert! I'm trying to say that Southern rap and Midwest rap music are very similar in sound. I'm sure anyone with working ears would agree with that. Dominic Brown I agree that those artists helped to bring attention to the South within hip hop. My point was that Nelly paved the way for MAINSTREAM hip hop... The kind that got played on pop radio stations and was openly embraced by people of ALL cultural backgrounds.

Dominic Brown I feel y'all but really the south consists of Mississippi,Alabama,Georgia, and Florida(to a certain extent). I say this because this is the area people think of when people say southern then they lump everybody with a thick accent in together. Louisiana artist sound totally different than anywhere else in the country. The lingo, way of life, everything is different there. Texas is damn near its own country. A lot of Texans dont even acknowledge the above states as the south. Rap a lot, Suc, and UGK aren't southern, country, but not from the south. It would be like someone saying Chicago and New York rappers sound the same.
