We are out for the day, driving to Nelson's Bay in a convertible with the roof down and sun in our hair. We have an adventure exploring the area and Mike risks trying a Bum Blaster.
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode (as I do all of them). Scenery is so different "frae bonnie Scotland", but just as beautiful. I've been here since 1971 and have been blessed that I have travelled all over this great land. Have been back to Scotland four times and still marvel at the beauty of it. "They can take the boy out of Scotland, but they cannae take Scotland oot o the boy". Enjoy your stay and keep the newsreels coming.
Another great glimpse of beautiful Australia. I spend a week in Shoal Bay with my sister each year and know it’s a beautiful spot. The views from Tomaree Head are some of the best we have. So glad the weather is good for you but watch out for that sun - remember to “slip-slop-slap” …slip on a shirt, slop on sunblock, and slap on a hat 👕 🧴 🧢 😎🇦🇺
Looks like your having fun, use to go up to Nelson Bay when we were kids there was nothing there,a caravan park, a shop and a couple of houses, and a mental hospital right on the headland.
Hello from Poland - your weather is a lot betterthan it is here! It's lovely to see so much sunshine. Giorgeous walks especially to the top of the mountain. I hope Tricias knees were OK. Mikes Bum Blaster sequence, was brilliant bit of camera work - very funny.. Thanks to Jemma and Matthew to act as guides and hosts
Thanks Michael, it is getting hotter here every week. Tricia's knees were sore but she just gets on with it. Glad you liked the closing scene, we had a blast filming that🤣
Tricia needs a wide brim hat! Sunstroke is worse than a big night on the booze! Loving your channel. Used to live in the Blue Mountains, now in The Snowy Mountains ( southern NSW). Coming to spend 3 glorious months in Scotland very soon. Can’t wait!
Thanks, she did have a wide brimmed hat but it kept blowing off so she got a cap instead. Lucky it was not yet summer. Would love to visit the Snowy Mountains one day. We are sure that you will love Scotland 👍🐾💕
Love Nelson Bay, I seen a small penguin near the marina there once. You are both literally walking in our foot steps 😂, we lived in the Hunter Valley and Port Stephen’s for the past 16 years, now back in your/our back yard. Hame’l dae Mae (land of the Bings). Enjoy the rest of your Aussie holiday. Don’t drink too many TOOHEYS 😊.
Jemma said there was penguins there but we didn't see any. You must be a bit torn between Oz and Scotland, you've had the best of both worlds! Aye quite partial to a Tooheys but also found a good Irish pub with Guinness in Mooloolaba 👍
Oh, I would have definitely stayed by the pool.. it was lovely to see some sunshine on such a chilly wet and very windy day... to distract me from going out to rescue my pvc greenhouse that has relocated itself during the storm last night... my poor plants ! Sue
So glad that you're out in Aussie visiting your daughter and partner!!!! your first 2 videos are really wonderful, you're certainly making very good use of every minute... hilarious ending to this second video... keep on having a great time....
When I was a kid we spent a lot of our holidays in Shoal Bay (my mum's aunty had a holiday house there) My siblings and I explored all over the area in particular Tomaree Head in those days the locals called it Radar mtn. because the radar antenna the army had there from WW2 was still standing (this was the late 50s and early 60s) The mtn itself was riddled with gun emplacements and observation posts. It was still Army property at the time .The buildings at the bottom of the mtn were from an army base where US troops trained during the war.
There was no signs of any gun positions now that we could notice, probably some still there if you went searching but nature probably reclaimed the space. You must have some great memories of that time.👍
@@MikeandTriciaOotnAboot Yes the last time I went there the bushes had taken over a lot of the spots plus the government had either sealed up or removed them because they could be a hazard. Yes it was just a sleepy fishing village back then that only came alive when a big game fishing competition was on.
The US army used the beaches in the local area to train for beach landings during its WWII Pacific campaign. There used to be photos on boards in the area of the US army landing craft on beaches. The gun emplacements and observation points are still there, they are further round towards the sea inlet to the Bay.
I’m always impressed by the fit people running up Tomaree. Not a bad daily exercise followed by a swim at Shoal Bay. Loving your adventures in Australia
Tip for getting up hills faster without feeling exhausted; get a younger person to push you up the slope with about 2 Kg force in the small of your back. You'll feel like you're walking on the flat.
Thanks Linda, my knees were sore but I was determined not to be left back at the apartment so I gave it a go, and surprised myself by getting to the top x
Hi Mike & Tricia We love watching your videos & we were thrilled when we saw that you were visiting our country. Enjoy your time here. The "bum blaster" segment gave us a good laugh ! Keep up the good videos Warm regards, Graham & Vivienne
Tricia really needs a broad brimmed hat and you all need sunscreen whenever you’re out in the sunshine! Gemma, please make sure she gets one, save her from heat stroke, skin cancer and dehydration. Always carry bottles of water that you can refill at the nearest tap as needed. Some beaches and picnic areas also have sunscreen, so make use of that too if you see it. There’s a hole in the Ozone layer south of Australia, which allows radiation to get through, so you need all the protection you can get. Edit: OK, Tricia has a hat, but make sure you keep wearing it, we want you to be protected! 🥰🇦🇺🌞
I can imagine that it was a lot more peaceful 35 years ago, but it is still stunningly beautiful and it was great having those stairs up to the top of Tomaree Head, they may not have been there back then xx
Geez Mike - crack a window open son! 💨🤭🤣 So glad you're both enjoying our little island (Australia) for a short stint. Hope you enjoy your stay, and hopefully don't melt too much - unfortunately Australia is known for the very harsh sunshine, leading to high rates of skin cancer, so please be careful Tricia & Mike .... wouldn't want you to suffer too much sunburn while you're here. Love the Aussie episodes - new viewer/sub. Greetings from the Upper North Shore of Sydney (near Hornsby).
Thanks mate, we sure are slapping on the sun lotion and wearing hats, we are just not used to the heat here. I think I killed a few bugs with that bum blast though😉🤣
Great episode - stunning beaches for sure and that climb was worth it Loved the cruising sequence lol you look at home in an open top 😂 don’t get to attached as that may be the first upgrade on return Thanks for sharing as it looks great and your missing all the storms
Thanks, we've been hearing about the storms, I think we timed it perfectly for getting away. Could definitely get used to the convertible, but wouldn't be quite the same back home with the weather, especially at the moment.
The boat shed has the best coffee in Tea Gardens , MUM'S (down the bridge end next to to co -op) has the best fish and chips, I'm a local here😂😂, glad you're enjoying your trip to Australia
@@MikeandTriciaOotnAboot I'm not 100% sure how it got its name?🤣 but my theory is,,,, that after a lot of heavy rain the river does turn to a 'Tea' colour, from all of the tannins that come out of the mangroves and other native tress further up the river, I live over the bridge in Hawk's Nest which is a much smaller town, but we have the 2 beaches, one on the bay, which is directly opposite from Nelson bay(Jimmy's beach ) and one on the surf beach (Bennett's beach) I doubt you guys had time to explore that far over because it's about a 1/2 hour walk roughly, and because you were on the ferry(which I love by they way🤣), glad you enjoyed my beautiful part of Australia, even if you missed the best parts🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 safe travels to you both😁
@@aussiebornandbred thanks that would explain the tea. You're right we didn't have time but Jimmy's beach looked beautiful from the boat on the way over 👍💕
hi Guys, great wee video. looks like your having a Ball! keep safe and enjoy your family visit. Janie Oh and PS . Our hotel room ( when we have one ) looks like yours LOL
Oh my goodness, please tell your daughter no more hills I feel so concerned for you. Lots of things to see that are on more gentle inclines. 😂 you ended on a loud toot.
you are right about the weather,, I have never seen the Tay so high, and many streets are not passable trees down and flooding. but anyway enjoy the rest of your holiday with your daughter and her boy friend@@MikeandTriciaOotnAboot
