Believe it or not mrs Mobley in this video was my great grandmother! Lol and right now I'm living in the house at the end of the video, crazy to see my house and the town way back when lol
What a small world ☺️ I lived down the street from Mrs. Mobley at my grandmas house. When Nelson passed, I was 7 😔 I surely would’ve loved to have met him. He’d be in his golden years and I could picture him enjoying his retirement in Kershaw.
Hahahaha I love this video so much. I love when he knocks on the door and it's just a door and he's there to see her. Now, it would be a fancy door and it is all about money, but back then people were so much more in the present. Mrs. Mobley was soooooo nice!!!!!! Did you get to meet her?
8:30 'I'm going to move on into another world, a world of electronic energy'. And here he is, electronic energy flowing through the internet across the globe.
That’s so prolific. I thought the same. My Young friend passed, he said things in the days and weeks before like he knew. I think you just get a feeling.
“People think I’m crazy but then when they see the tapes, they’ll understand what I’m doing” he was a treasure and way waaaaay before his time, he would love today’s world
@@danieljamesmead Hard to say! We watch these videos and look back with an nostalgic tint! And with these videos being so personal at times it can feel like we know these people, kind of strange when you think about it.Regardless I can't disagree he was definitely ahead of his time!
He said many times how he thought in the future people would all record their daily lives and be able to communicate by TV with each other. He was close: desktop computers and handheld phones over the airwaves with video screens.
30 years since he's passed away and here I am, reliving his life. What a fascinating time we live in, and what a great glimpse into the life of a really interesting guy.
@@auntemmyd1604 It's sad , I thought he was alive . He enjoyed his filming and lived during a fun time in history despite the Aids crisis going on. .Did he film Star Booty ? You used to be able to watch it , but Rupaul must have pulled it off RU-vid due to the subject matter.
They could easily use his old house with video pictures on the walls showing his life in vlogs as you walk through his old house you see how far he came.
D I was just thinking about that. His grandma who he mentions so often in this video could have easily been born in the 1800s. His mama most likely born during the jazz era of the 1920s. It's such a trip to think about.
These are priceless gems from a beautiful soul. It saddens me that I never got to meet him when I lived 3 houses down from Mrs. Mobley and just about as close to his grandma's house. I was born in '82 so I was only 7 at the time. Mrs. Mobley's dog used to scare me and just about everyone that dared walk on their side of the sidewalk. He was an old dog but he had quite the bark and growl. Fortunately, he never chased me. Back to Nelson... He truly captures the spirit of a South Carolinian. His voice and his personality could cheer up the grumpiest of people. It's fascinating how ahead of his time he was. If he were around just 3 years later, I'm pretty sure we would've met as I was on my bicycle riding around the blocks with my buddies every chance we got. At the exact time he was filming this, I was down the same bypass Mrs. Mobley's home was on... at Kershaw Primary School (2nd grade). Nelson reminds me of a buddy of mine named Rusty. Next year, I will be the age Nelson was in this video. I could go on but I'll close in saying that Kershaw was such a great place to grow up. I feel like we got the last remnants of the innocence of the 50s. There was just a sense of security, warmth, love, and respect. The pace was slower and, while we were soon to get introduced to computers, we were still old school and I feel our connections were more genuine... but I digress. I hope that all of his family, friends, associates, and my classmates that were related to him see the beautiful videos he left behind. I'm going to visit his resting place the next time I'm down there to see my folks. PS. Forgive me for rambling and I hope it's cohesive enough... it was a long day but I just had to reply
Just a sweet ol' southern boy who loved his family and friends. I hope Nelson and Mrs. Mobley have met up in heaven with her hair all done and are having a nice cup of tea and a long chat. I can see it now. God bless them :)
What he says from 08:08 to 08:50 shook me to my core. I know hes talking about his future plans of quitting his regular job at the end of June and devoting himself full time to filming and hopefully developing a cable show (and bigger plans) but what he says can also easily apply to his eventual unexpected passing in the early morning of July 4th of that same year, 1989. Nelson touches my heart because he is so in love with and proud of his hometown and his family and he showed such reverence for his grandmothers home. His childhood memories were so pure and vivid. They way he spoke of his grandmothers house and the church being his most favorite placed touches my heart. He was a true gentleman and his visit to his childhood neighbor was also touching and sweet... it was also so prophetic in that he explained that the previous day he attended church and saw so many people he hadn't seen in years. He literally called it "...a blessing" and it truly was because that was the last time all of those folks he loved got to see him. He was truly too good for this world. He was a sweet, handsome man and and a generous and kind friend. He truly reminds me of my brother who passed of HIV/AIDS in 1992. God bless your memory, Nelson. ❤
Serenity Moon i totally agree with you....i've watched dozens of nelson's videos, and almost feel like he's a friend, and i'm saddened by his untimely death...he died far too soon.
What a sweet, sweet man!! Nelson really was a southern gentleman with the liberal attitude of a New York artist. There is a tradition of eccentrics from the south making their way to find notoriety and community in NY.🗽
@Jet Rm1 Because as a straight man, if you are seen to like something of gay culture people will infer you are gay. It's a preemptive defensive remark, as a lot of people make judgements by association which is just unfortunate really.
Life must have been so much easier and simpler back then, I feel like these videos are my secret haven and only special people know about them, I am currently dealing with severe depression and it doesn't seem to get better, watching these videos makes me feel nostalgic and yearn for an era which I never knew.
If you are depressed and want a new nostalgia why dont you find out your purpose in life and see how it fits you as it fits everybody, you must unlock ultimate peace within yourself
Look, I bet that you're an awesome and thoughtful person. A person to have amazing and also very intense conversations, about everything. Take this video as a sample, that live can be good, even though everything might crumble around you. You can text me if you need someone to talk to. - Dan :)
I bet he had no idea that the videos he was taking then, would be watched , by a random 19 year old kid from Florida, in the year 2019. I hope he sees his videos still being watched by all ages from all places to this day. Even inspiring some different shot ideas for my own film work. Thanks Nelson .
thatone guy - He knew they would be useful/interesting one day - and those days are now here. He even said he would "move on into a world of electronic energy" which is exactly what the internet is nowadays. I don't think he knew they would be watched to the extent of millions around the globe, but he definitely knew and sensed their future use. True example of a man ahead of his time.
I'm so addicted to these videos of Nelsons and yet as they end my heart is broken just a little- he died to soon, he was so ahead of his time and so sweet and kind and extremely intelligent- I sware if I met someone like him I would treasure them but I fear people like him no longer exist - and so I keep watching over and over.
I didn't realize he came from old southern money. It explains his wonderful accent. I've always loved the way he talks, he was such a beautiful person.
one day, we'll all make our final visit to our hometown, whether we know it's our last or not. thank god nelson documented his life for us all to witness
I live in the south & typically don't find southern accents appealing, but I find Nelson's accent absolutely beautiful. He reminds me a little bit of Blanche DuBois from the play/film Streetcar Named Desire. Graceful & soft-spoken, he was a very endearing character. Rest well Nelson.
This guy is a fuckin legend excuse my language. Way before his time. Vlogging in the 80s. Wow. I discovered this channel around 2 years ago and so glad I did. Love seeing these times again.
Oh how I love this one. When he visited mrs mobley my heart was touched by his love and respect for her. Oh Nelson I would have enjoyed meeting you. ❤️
What a sweet video. Everyone tells us not to live in the past. The past just 20+ years ago was so different and this video proves it. Not one person had their door locked. They were excited to have someone to talk to face to face. Not by text or "social media". I miss the past and Nelson's video confirms my feelings. I would love to sit down with Mrs. Mobley and have a cup of coffee. Thanks for uploading this! Brent
Brent Audi no one I know locks their doors while there in and meeting face to face is wonderful. Maybe you just live in an incredibly shitty area? None of that has changed at all.
These videos have such a magical quality about them. The round lens makes me feel like he is there in 1989 right now, talking to all of us individually from some kind of time travel device :) . His early death is so very tragic, but his southern charm lives on and speaks to us from the other side of the lens, forever there in 1989, which is special to me because I too was there once. How wonderful of his friend(s) to share these rare gems.
I have tears in my eyes! Miss. Maubley sure is the salt if the earth. I love how she is his neighbor and he tells her that he loves her! I get so lost in these videos. I get really taken away and I absolutely love it. I can't really stop from crying when they stop sometimes like this one.
I think Nelson knew his days were numbered but it's great he got to check one off the bucket list and went home one final time to visit family and friends.
For all the young people out there, this video shows real human interaction. It’s crazy to know that this is not very common nowadays. People are more uptight and there is no trust. The internet changed us all...
his videos are so candid, so raw. I don't know if it even makes sense to compare them with vlogs which are more often than not covered in a layer of pretense. bless you and your memory, Nelson
Listen to those prophetic words at 8:28 ,"Now it's time to leave and move on" he said "I'm moving on to another world,a world with electronic energy, and with God's help he will pervade the whole universe with goodness, truth and plenty". He sounded like he knew that was his last visit home and was saying his last goodbyes and some how he knew what the electronic world with social media would look like and what affect one could have by their own personal vlogs. You have to wonder.
I don't want to say what I think happened on July 4th 1989..he is saying his goodbyes to everyone on a lot of videos prior to that day. They say it was a heart attack...all I know is he was way ahead of his time, he was a true gentleman and I wish I could have met him.
Of all the vids on the channel, this one is my favorite. What a charming guy, with a balanced sense of love for his past and excitement for new technology. Wonder what he could have accomplished had he not died so young.
I actually found this house out of curiosity on Google Earth street view. Being in street view and seeing the house, the gazebo still there just as it was, etc, was pretty wild. It's like reliving someone else's memories.
@@donn372 I have been looking for it too. No luck so far. You gotta look for landmarks, these are bigger than average houses on a street with a sidewalk. Lots of spare time doesn't hurt either. :)
“...now it’s time to leave and move on, now I’m going to move on to another world of electronic energy so that, with God’s help, I can pervade the whole universe with goodness, and truth, and plenty” 8:29 Mission accomplished Nelson, rest in peace💜
Wow first time i ever read so many positive beautiful comments on a channel wow be proud of yourselves for been so nice ...the truth is that this channel and the person who made these videos and the person who took the time to share it with us are amazing thank you
Im cryingggg, im watching the most amazing man from an era i didnt have the privilege to be born in. I truly love these videos of his. I wish he was still around makin vlogs (: Nelson rip good sir
I love Nelson. So unfortunate he's not here with us anymore. I love watching these videos... So interesting and deemed eloquent. Time to move on going to move on to another world a world full of Electronic energy Seems like he knew he was going to pass soon.
The encounter with the older lady really put a smile on my face, I randomly stumbled upon these videos and they are beautifully candid and reminiscent of a simpler, more sincere time and people eventhough I was only born half a decade after this was taken.
He passed when I was 2 and I don't know why but I am absolutely entranced by these flms. I like to go through every little detail to see how different things were. For those of you who don't know he was a legend... Taken before his time. He was on the hottest scene and now I want to know all I can about him.
Nelson has always been such a role model for love and acceptance. I grew up in east Tn in a small town alot like Kershaw. We never locked our doors or cars, car keys stayed in the egnition. We all had wall phones but you just walked over to your neighbors. Everybody knows everybody and loves and accepts everyone. He knew what he was doing was amazing and breakthrough. I just wish it had lasted all through the 90s. RIP Nelson💖💐
These videos have rekindled my hope for humanity. What a gem Nelson is. Regardless of his passing, even through all this time, he is still sharing those positive vibes. You gotta love it ❤🌍❤🌏❤🌎❤
He touches my heart. I’m from North Carolina. And now I wish I was from Kershaw because they certainly have the most delightful southern accents I’ve ever heard. I hope he and his parents and Mrs. Mobley are having a grand time.
Lordy, I bet that house still looks beautiful today in 2017. I should take a drive to Kershaw and find it. I am sure it is being lovingly cared for, like most of the homes around here (SC). My neighborhood is filled with them, in just that style, and it is a full-time job to maintain their beauty. Nothing like wrap-around porch in the spring and summer. Nelson led a charmed life, in every way, experiencing the South, family, a true sense of home, and also the New York of the 80s, a time of such excitement and innovation, everything felt new and fun back then, and the living was certainly easier.
Slava Gorbunov I think that may be the wrong house? I just looked and I’m pretty sure it’s 214 State Road s-29-13 Kirshaw. The house opposite is the one in the video and when you look at the side of the house you see the shed and gazebo
@Slava Gorbunov I think the house you’re talking about is the one at 2:36 in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--szMXJJUuP4.html. Looks similar but isn’t his grandmothers house.
I bet he had an amazing childhood!! I would've loved to have had him as a good friend. He was such a beautiful, compassionate, kind hearted, curtious, intellectual & humble soul. Everyone says he was ahead if his time...he definitely was. His grandmothers home was so beautiful wonder what it looks like now... Thank you Nelson for sharing these mere glimpses into your beautiful life💫❤❤ RIP
Nelson, your "goodness, truth, and plenty" have transcended the decades, so mission accomplished! I love you across time and space, and thank you for your presents/presence.
All of Nelson's family and friends were so blessed to have him in their lives. How could the older generations ever think they would outlive him. He continues to bring joy to all who see his videos.
This guy's mastery of keeping everything in frame so firmly with a heavy old VHS camera at arm's length is surreal. I think he was a foresighted genius in his own way.
He’s a revolutionary guy! He knows his time is already limited and took these videos, First vlogger in the world wow he is so awesome! back in time love to watch these ✌🏼
