Thanks again, Jessie. 🙂 Two main points, your jumper makes me think Of Mr. Kipling Lemon Slices and finish painting behind your radiator!

If you’re not busy enough. 🙂 Could you do some vlogs on managing your produce when you’ve harvested them. I.e. blanching for the freezer and recipes maybe. There’s always an abundance and it’s quite difficult to keep on top of what to do and eating a lot of it. Thanks xx

You may want to explain to non Brits that a garden isn’t necessarily a veg garden. In Canada a back yard might be called a garden by a Brit, but we mean a veg or flower spot within our ‘yards’.

We used to have a plot on an allotment when I was little. It's gone now. Someone put up a huge house and didn't want people on their land... It's liveless English ryegrass now. A shame. But thankfully I now have a fairly big back garden myself! 🌱 Thanks for the video Jessie, learned loads again! 😌

This is one of your most helpful videos! I had these flies in my potted plants and googled but didn't find much and figured it was more of a small nuisance. I didn't realize they fed on roots and could hurt seedlings. And I didn't know nematodes could help either. Thanks so much for the expertise! Also I adore the blue color you chose for your room.

Informed video, as always. Using natural methods is the very best way. My friend releases tiny parasitic wasps in her horse stable to rid the stable of vicious, biting horse flies. Works a treat. Also, very interesting information on how allotments are set up and run. Your allotment is by far, the nicest I’ve seen. I like how you’ve got it organized and how you’ve kept the natural grass as walkways. I’ve seen many who replace it with wood chips or pebbles. My plants are running me out of kitchen and sun porch. Hope it warms up here soon!! See you Tuesday! 🙂🍷♥️

Really interesting......thanks Jessie! 5-7 yr waiting list, wow! I feel SO blessed to have my plot on our land at the end of the garden. Last year, my last resort for the pesky slugs , were Nematodes, but by that time, they had scoffed & ruined so many crops. So this year, I’m ON IT‼️😉🤞 Have a great week x

I use "Bacillus thuringiensis" for my Cabbages/ Kale as it stops/kills the butterfly and moth caterpillars, so you spray it on the leave tops and underneath, , I used it 3 times last year and not one of my kale plants where touched and I didn't Net them, I got the idea from "Charles dowding",It naturally lives in the soil like your stuff, Great video Jess.

Really interesting video - you are just great and in such a vibrant jumper! Soaked and sealed our parsnip seeds and had 100% germination so that was a great tip from you - thx. Look forward to seeing your pumpkin frame - love the idea of growing them up a trellis so looking forward to seeing what you do. I will be smiling this week thinking about the ‘entrance to your watering can’ - very humorous. Cheers!

It’s the first time I hear of Nematodes! I had a very bad infestation of fungus gnats this year too and I used some sticky yellow sheets all over the house which caught a lot of them but didn’t get rid of them entirely! I will try nematodes as I still find basil seedlings laying in the window cill without roots! Thanks Jessie!

Jessie, thank you so much for the Fungus Fly info, I have always though these were fruit flies, so your explanation of these things now make more sense. I have lost so many trays of really healthy seedlings and just couldn’t work it out but it’s definitely what you have explained, so I have ordered the nematodes ASAP thanks xxx

Jess needed this a month ago. Had same problem indoors and ended tossing my beautiful onion seedlings with soil because infested with what I think these little blighters. Never noticed before and I grow vegetables mostly in grow bags and pots. I must see if these nematodes are available here in Aus. Thank you this was invaluable

Fungus gnats ugh! I had a bad infestation indoors this year..never had them before..lost lots of seedlings all my chilli ones .Really got me down but after using nematodes I have got on top of them .I also now top off my seedlings with fine grit as an added defense.I drilled bigger holes in one of my watering rose to avoid clogging/sieving ..a tip from Steves seaside allotment channel.

I’ve been picking off courgette flowers namely as I sowed the seed too soon, they are still in pots in the house and it would be better for them to concentrate on growing roots when I finally can plant them out. Of course next year, I won’t plant them so early! I also have those pesky flies, but not many in the house, mostly in the greenhouse (cheap plastic thing). This may explain what happened to a batch of sunflowers that didn’t germinate with the other variety of sunflowers. Seven seeds vanished, only one ungerminated one remained.

@tristinchristenson6349

You need to see if you can get a product called "Mosquito bits" they look like granola. They are completely safe for food, animals, etc. They will kill the larva in the soil and the flying ones will die too. They are good! used to keep Mosquitos from breeding in water for cattle. I've used them for years, I have successfully had zero gnats this year. I just soak the bits in water for a day or two and water the plants. I use it for indoor and outdoor plants. If the nematodes don't work out.

They seem to come with a lot of bagged commercial composts (the fungus gnats) - I also get them in the house - under the growlamp in my bedroom in spring. I don't seem to get them noticeably at my allotment so much in the greenhouse though.

I was having a gnat problem early on in the year when I did my 🌶 🫑 so I started baking my compost in the oven to 80°C. I still get them so I’ve since stopped doing that as it was a PITA. My alliums were mauled by the gnats too. I used a handheld vacuum to clean up my grow room, as well as that sticky yellow paper stuff. Can still see them like on your pot shaking, so I may try these Nematodes too, which I’ve previously used on the cutworm assaulting my Lettuces. My main nemesis has been a persistent aphid infestation on my 🌶 🫑 since day one (January!) and more recently Blackbirds chuffing up my mulch outside 🤬
