This chard recipe is a real favourite and is even better when the chard, tomatoes and even onions and garlic are fresh from the garden. I recon “things to do with chard” is probably quite a common search term for people who grow their own vegetables. Along with the old “what to do with courgettes” because that’s always a problem too! But Chard is one of the most underrated vegetables around in my opinion. It’s easy to grow, seriously productive, you can grow it all year round and it tastes amazing… what’s not to love about it?
This is first first in what will, inevitably become a whole series on Things to do with Chard because I have loads of uses up my sleeve. But I thought I’d start here.
This is a recipe for Baked pasta shells with Chard and Mozzarella and its one of my absolute favourites. Can be a little bit of a faff but its so good. Mum and I had it for lunch when I filmed this but it makes a fantastic dinner and you can feed a lot of people on not much with it!
Ingredients:
Chard (stemmed and washed)
A ball of Mozzarella
Conchiglioni Pasta. ( amzn.to/3je36Rc )
Tomato Sauce:
Onion
Garlic
Olive oil
Tinned (or homegrown) tomatoes
Salt
White Sauce:
Butter
Plain Flour
Milk
Nutmeg
Salt
In this recipe i am using a mixture of Lucullus and Fordhook Giant Chard and the tomatoes in the sauce are Black Russian.

I am so glad I discovered your vlog. There are thousands of gardening channels and I learn a lot from them and appreciate them, but they are scripted and designed to gain as many views as possible. You don't really try to teach gardening so much (although one can learn a lot from you) as it is about your relationship, your "love affair" with your garden and chickens and cats. And you are so real. Nothing is scripted. Your channel is so unique, so refreshing. Please don't change.

I love the way that whenever you speak about people not liking a particular veggie you take a glug of wine.

Here's a tip! Chill those onions down in the fridge before cutting. The gases will not travel the same and go up in your face! That tip changed things for me. Been watching you for about a year and a half and I've never really commented before. LOL I love watching your Channel. I'm in the Midwest state of Ohio in the United States. We seem to be dealing with a lot of the same things at the same time. Zone 6b here. Your vlogs are so relaxing. Is that you playing the keys? I love it, either way! I get a kick out of you and love the fact that you have your mom to garden with. I plan on moving several hundred miles to be near my family next year! I've got Big dreams to start a small Homestead myself. And ...So sorry about your little girls! XOXO

The new Keith Floyd (rip) , joking aside, I love your cooking segments. My wife said she would never eat Broad Beans nor Chard, but now I have your recipes up my sleeve. It's a shame that all of my chard bolted, and I pulled it up today. All is not lost, I sowed a few more rows for an autumn harvest.... Fingers crossed

Absolutely loved this recipe and you are quite the cook. I don't mind telling you that I am green eyed jealous over your double oven . Your stove is very beautiful. I have the most dinky single oven and range top you can imagine. But I have always said it isnt the oven the one who is doing the cooking. You can prepare very beautiful and delicious food with any oven. I take care of my disabled wife and I do all the cooking. She has told me many times how she truly enjoys my cooking. I have a secret ingredient that I put into everything I cook it is called love 😉. Truly enjoyed spending the time with you in your kitchen to bad we have a ocean between us I would love to cook for you and your mom one time. God Bless to you and your mother and Happy Gardening.

Oh YUM! I will definitely make this soon as hubby LOVES pasta and pasta shells are something I've not cooked yet. To return the favour, here's a real cheat that worked out well this weekend - butter chicken (yes, with sauce from a jar - cut me some slack on Saturday night), rice, and I had one of those off the shelf palak paneer pouches to which I added some steamed, and then finely chopped chard from the patch. Not only did it add a hit of fresh green colour but the flavour was really delicious - it made it a bit milder for our woosie palates. Definitely will do that again as chard is so easy to grow that dealing with the tsunami can be a challenge. Here's CHEERS back at you Jessie!!

Hi Jessie - couple of tips for cutting onions and not cry :-) 1. Put them on the freeze for about 4 min before cutting them (You do not want to freeze them, just cool it down fast) 2. Do NOT cut the root stem until the end of the chopping Hope this help. Thanks for posting yet another awesome video HF/USA

I grew one very large red stemmed chard last year. When it went to seed,, it was as large as a medium small tumbleweed. I just shook that giant ball around the garden and tossed the ball into my raised bed that i have no luck with. We got some decent rain this year and a bunch of chard came up in that no luck raised bed. This is the weird thing: I got more of the red, as expected, but i also got some white stemmed. This puzzles me. My intentional gardening never works out, but my accidentals keep coming back so i stick with those: leeks, celery, rue, the chard, volunteer tomatoes and a recurring yam flower.
