Nepal Faces Internet Outages Over Payment Dispute with Indian Firms | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Nepal has been facing widespread internet outages due to payments owed to Indian companies, affecting millions of people. Broadband providers owe more than 20 million dollars to vendors in India but they have not been able to transfer the money. Nepal's government has refused to give the necessary approval to transfer the funds out of the country, saying that the internet providers must first pay outstanding taxes - a dispute that dates back years. Countering this claim, private internet providers say that the legal framework governing their businesses exempts them from those taxes. As per a report released by the Nepal Telecommunication Authority last year, Nepal has over 10 million subscribers to private internet companies.

Bruh! As a nepali this wasn't even governmental issue. Its just that Nepali private isp wasn't able to pay to indian isp due to foriegn exchange glitch. It was fixed within 5-6 hour and payment was transferred. And also internet wasn't cut off. It was just slow.

Lots of fake news in comment. Real Nepali here. Our private ISPs haven't paid tax to the government. They have formed an alliance (a literal cartel) to fight the government and not to pay tax. Billions of rupees are not being paid to the government by these criminals and their organization. So the government hasn't approved them to convert Rupees to USD to pay for the Internet they are bringing from Indian companies like Airtel and TATA. Hence they are unable to pay to Indian companies and that is why the Indian companies have cut the Internet. Real culprits are our privately owned ISPs. Don't believe anything else regarding this issue.

Its just of those ISP's whose payment is halted as those ISP's haven't paid the rental fees of electricity poles that they use of NEA of Gov of Nepal, that's why their International Payment is in Halt by Government until they pay the remaining fees to Government.

Nepal is like 2nd home for Indians, We should maintain good relationship with Nepal but I don't know if Nepal govt. wants that, there are some political factions which wanna garner votes by being Anti-India. Nepal is even adding their new map on their currency..which contain some(very little)area of India as well. Both countries are sorting this issue out at governmental level, there was no need to take such undiplomatic step. Anyways, I do hope Nepal & India ties get strong but it won't be easy. China has already penetrated deep into Nepal's media & Political ecosystem. China also has money 💰 & motive to worsen ties between both countries. Ah.. well..we'll see how things goes.

India should not talk about relation, Nepal and India relation was good till 2014, But when India Blocked border in 2015 for 6 months When massive earthquake hits Nepal, Nepal was Broke Economically and Emotionally. Petrol prices reached 250/L which was 96 and Cylinder reached 2000 I still remember how difficult it was to get petrol cylinder and groceries at that time China helped Nepal.
