Learn about nephrotic syndrome vs glomerulonephritis in comparison to nursing management, signs and symptoms, causes, and pathophysiology.
Acute glomerulonephritis is a type of nephritic syndrome that causes inflammation to the glomerulus that leads to the leakage of red blood cells and mild amounts of protein into the urine.
Nephrotic syndrome is a set of symptoms associated with kidney damage that leads the glomerulus to leak a massive amount of proteins (not red blood cells) into the urine.
The main cause of acute glomerulonephritis is a post-streptococcal infection of either the throat or skin. The main cause of nephrotic syndrome is unknown but is due to minimal change disease. Both conditions tend to affect the pediatric population.
Signs and symptoms of glomerulonephritis include hematuria (tea-colored urine), hypertension, decreased GFR (glomerular filtration rate), low urinary output, facial edema, mild proteinuria etc.
Signs and symptoms of nephrotic syndrome include massive proteinuria (greater than 3 grams of protein loss per day), hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia, weight gain, noticeable edema, risk for infection and blood clot formation.

Also water loves hypertonic environment. When Albumin leaves, water get attracted to tissue cuz it’s more concentrated than blood after Albumin left. Am I right?! Just trying to figure it other reasons makes water enter tissues.

I have to say, 4 hours before I took my NCLEX-RN I watched this video and it absolutely helped me a lot! I've been watching your videos for the past couple of months cause I couldn't afford a to pay for a review. I'm foreign educated and I've been out of school for 7 years, so I needed to relearn/refresh/update my nursing knowledge. All of Your videos was a huge help and I highly recommend it to everybody who's planning to take the NCLEX. I just found out I passed in 75 questions which was totally unexpected. I watched your videos for content and I used uworld for practice test. It was the perfect combination. Thank you so much for doing this!

SARAH YOU REALLY EXPLAIN THINGS THAT ARE COMPLICATED CLEARLY FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME TO UNDERSTAND. I AM 56 AND ALREADY HAD OPEN HEART SURGURY. I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE HAD THE COURAGE TO MAKE THE CHOICE TO HAVE SURGURY. ALTHOUGH IT IS BECAUSE OF NURSES DOCTORS THAT EXPLAIN THINGS WELL WHICH ENABLE PATIENTS TO FEEL BETTER ABOUT SURGURIES. GOD BLESS YOU. YOUR ACCENT MAKES THE TEACHING MORE CLEAR ! THANK YOU JEFFREY

I take it again in 2 week's. What should I do--study for. I've taken Physiology and Anatomy, I'm in Psychology, Drug calculation, and Diet Nutrition now. All A's except for Diet Nutrition, but I really wanna pass. Can you help me.

Hello :) You may want to look into purchasing the HESI A2 study guide. The anatomy part is challenging for many students...so don't feel alone. The study guide has a section dedicated to Anatomy and Physiology which will help you prep for the exam. It is called: Admission Assessment Exam Review by HESI ISBN: 0323353789 I hope that helps..best wishes on your retake!
