I turned on my pc this morning and I was curious as to whether Neptune still exists. It has been two generations plus since I boarded a Pennsylvania train to go to Newark to be inducted in to the US Air Force. I lived in Neptune for three years since my grandmother lived there. My mother passed when I was three. Dad walked. Up until that time I lived with my father's aunt in Washington, DC. When I begin to "smell myself," she kicked my out and to Neptune I would end up. Most of my generation has moved on to heaven? I don't know what happen to Neptune to be called a hood. In the day, Springwood Ave and some of the streets around it where considered the hood. What I am seeing online is a suburban community. Some of the happiest days of my life where spent in New Jersey/Neptune. James (Jimmy) Saunders(-:
Ditto... I grew up - Elementary school in Ocean grove. Springwood was not a particularly friendly walk.. Nor Bangs, or Corlies. Though I did all the time.. I do recognize some of these streets and bldgs
Neptune reminds me of some of the nabes my cousins, uncles and grandparents lived in Southeast Queens, and our family also before we moved to Old Bridge in 1957.
So many things changed over the past decades except Alpha’s. Alpha’s was the epicenter and summer night’s there were a hundred dudes out on Lake Ave. Greekfest and the clubs. It really was wild. TNT/JOB’s. Still kinda wild but just very different. Gentrification and a generation of parents who grew up on Vets cab’s instead of Uber.
That power grid looks like it's from a developing world country. In a state with GDP per capita like New Jersey's those lines should be underground decades ago.
@Scuffy 420 we used to go see shorties out there and We had to run from Rockwell to the train station on numerous occasions after leaving their crib. I already know lol
In Neptune we had Up The Hill & Down The Hill. Down the hill was never as bad as it is today. I was a Fireman with The Hamilton Fire Department. All of their big fires we responded to. I've seen it all. Crack dealers booby trapping their abandon stash houses. Punk ass Gang Bangers thinking they were the Mafia on some of the fires. Remove the gangs, Asbury is a much better place. Unfortunately for Neptune, the Asbury scum has been pushed into Downtown. Pretty much West of Main Street to the Neptune Border was bad. Especially Lake Ave. A few years ago Neptune Football had to forfeit The Thanksgiving Day Game in Asbury, a gang put out a hit on an Asbury Police Officer. Neptune refused to play the game in Asbury but the state wouldn't allow a neutral site.
