I'm 3 years late on this but the developer actually named Messiah (alongside Deus Ex) as one of his biggest inspirations for the game

Yep, that's the main thing. A fair bit of unlocks - traits that are added to the random pool of traits you get each level, items that can be given as rewards for missions, and mutators which are basically things that change the way the game is played. Doesn't take a long time to get them but still a lot of fun. Also he didn't show you can do custom characters. They are point based - so many points, each skill/item takes so many points, but I think you can ignore the limit just won't get unlocks for it, though you can have only one special ability per character. Right now there are 5 areas iirc and each has 3 maps like the slums, with the 3rd always having some random disaster. After that you normally die and it is over, but you can unlock a mutator to mix up the level order, enemy spawns, endless mode, etc. Still working on it and taking feedback from the community, so hope it keeps going for a while! Even if it doesn't though, it is a blast to play and couch co-op is a lot of fun, too.

zogmorp It is like that, but it has a more GTA feel because the AI can get pissed off super easily and ultimately most decisions you make lead to fighting. It’s like in Payday 2 how you can stealth some missions, but any consequences always lead to violence.

He took a huge break and when he came back he shook up his channel a fair bit. RU-vid does seem like it has a shelf life now but it has preserved before so maybe we will see a revitalization in the near future.
