If you want a job specific to the breed I recommend getting a dummy (or even a tennis ball) and throwing it into some long grass while the dog waits, get the dog to find it and bring it back. I've a working fox red lab myself and nothing makes him work harder (mentally & physically) than doing blind retrieves.

The final outcome isn't to make your dog carry a backpack about though all the time is it? The dog's not even that bad... polish up the humans handling skills, proof a sit, coz I'm not sure they ever got past the one second mark with making that dog sit, and he wasn't once told good sit or good boy to mark the behaviour which might have helped. Improved handling, and a solid sit and this dog will be passing anything and everything on a walk without issue. Problem would always be other dogs approaching and when and how to let them say hello... if at all. He seemed to be happier on the halti set up as apposed to the flat collar too, notable look of a more confident relaxed dog when they returned from the car. He just needed a bit of leadership i reckon. Any updates on this guy?

In my opinion the dog is confused and doesn’t really know what’s happening. The lab is hearing the sit command twice and in multiple occasions. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
