Thanks for the great video. After watching you go through all the steps I'm now regretting I ever bought a Nest as Google made the change out way too difficult. Besides, I bought and installed a Google Power Connector expecting to never have to deal with the battery, yet it still ran low on power. Nevertheless, you did a great job showing all the painstaking steps.
I was baffled until I saw your video! So many vids said either check your HVAC water valve (I don't have HVAC AC being a Canuck) or "call an electrician". In reality, its a 7 year old 3rd gen thermostat and this is the likely solution! Ordered the part and trying it tomorrow...thank you!
Suggestion: put down a folded towel when working on the Nest. It allows the curved face of the thermostat to be steady as you work, plus screws placed on the towel don’t get scattered as easily.
Nicely done! Had your grumbling x10 when I tried. But popping the battery cable off gave me confidence to do same. My unit needed a hard reset. So just removed power for 10 seconds.
Great stuff, you just saved lots of time and money. I went crazy trying to figure out the problem and I’ve seen many videos solving nothing. I really appreciate the help. I ordered the battery right immediately 💯💪💥👍🚀🚀🔥🔥
WOW, just watched as you were placing it back together, and thinking....oh no, got it all popped together, and those 4 screws were not placed back on, I was almost yelling at screen, YA DIDNT PUT BACK THOSE SCREWS, LOL. We are all human and make mistakes, and no really big deal, i was laughing though, hope that ya didnt mind. Am now going to get breakfast, and come back and watch the rest of your video.... >>>> FACT is you created an awesome video, thank you for that. QUESTION how did ya get stuck with the wrong battery. And as far as you know, will any hardware that is used for smartphones and laptops that can be hooked up to that battery should be fine to hookup with and charge that NEST BATTERY? Just wondering and asking for a friend. [where I am right now, NEST battery wont charge no matter what I do. the A/C unit is only about 15 months old, they coming out today to check it. And even though I am not an A/C man, i know tons about PCs and charging smart phones and many other things, and with making sure the hardware was in working order, that darn battery just will not take a charge, so i got the then figure it is bad for whatever reason!]
After I removed the battery cable, I found no pins with which to connect the new battery. Although I cannot confirm it, I’m guessing I broke the pins off my 3rd generation nest when removing the original battery. A closeup of the pins and their orientation would be really helpful.
Thank you! Super video and very informative. After watching I'm going to buy a new one...I haven't the patience of this guy, I would have tossed it long before I ever came close to getting back together. Yeah, new...plug and play verses fumble and frustration...$$ well spent for me.
If you change the battery, you will more than lightly cover the network chip, which will burn out. basically does not work properly in the UK, mine was badly fitted with no C wire, by a so called professional. Its now in the bin!
