Nest Cam VS Ring Stick Up - NOT What I Expected!

I just picked up the Ring Stick Up battery cam and the setup was extremely quick and simple. So far I am very pleased with it.

I think it comes down to which system you are invested in. I have all Google/Nest products so the Nest cam is a no brainer. I think both cameras would benefit from a flood light to work better at night.

Can you set up nest for event-based recording only? I don't like cameras that are uploading too much data when not necessary.

This may be a really dumb question, but what is the quality through a window day and night? We’re getting the house in the market soon… And we need HOA approval to install a camera (hence one of the lovely reasons why we’re selling)… So I don’t feel like going through the hassle of approval. Just looking for some options while we’re still in the house. :)

important to note that the nest cam only has 24/7 recording if you use there power cable to plug into it and most people dont have an outlet at least thirty foot from each spot they want a camera. And no one wants to see a wire from an outlet down low to the roof line of the house

With the Ring App; can you speak to/without first opening the App, to launch to view your cams; as you can w/nest/google home?

I like the Wyze cameras at night with the color. They are kinda blurry when a person or animal is moving but still like them.

Did they fixe the audio problem with the Ring Audio, your earlier review bashed it pretty bad?

i invested in 12 wyze cams and had huge problems with them not recording critical moments due to lags between recording, latency, etc. A real mess....they're cheaper and cool. But in a pinch? Well, that's why I'm watching this video.

I thought the ring doesnt have colour night vision for the wireless versions. ONLY the wired version of Ring cameras has it. Unless they changed or updated it.

And sooooo the night shot matters the most to me, love my ring cameras, but wish I had 24/7 recordings

Can you clarify the 24/7 recording. I have the same camera with power and it doesn’t record everything. It’s on all the time, but only records when it detects motion. Is there a setting I’m missing?

I think the ring did very well now I have the wyze cameras I have five of them and they work flawlessly they will detect anything no matter how far down the street it is the detection is amazing the only issue and it's only one issue I have is when Im in live view watching the camera and somebody walks in front of it or a car drives by.... it freezes up, is there any way to fix that problem. Other than that I love the cameras I was thinking about picking up this ring camera see how it does and if it works well I will change over to Ring. Thanks for the video you always do a great job.

Hi thanks for your great videos, i actually bought the Ring stick up cam yesterday but it doesn't do the live view, it does detect motions and record clips, but it always says STREAMING ERROR while going live. Ive reset, factory resent, change its position around my home etc... still same no live view or streaming. The funny thing is I have my old Ring peephole cam using same network and app streaming live and working 100% perfectly. Do you think my device may be defective?

Ring eco system and app are by far the best option imo.

I'm just now in the process of switching from ring to Google nest. I've had ring exterior and interior cameras for about 4 years now. The time it takes between the time the camera detects motion and I get a notification on my phone is why I'm making the switch. The people are gone by the time I get notification even when they ring my ring doorbell, by the time i get notice and the video finally loads the person is gone with ring. Notification with google nest is almost instant.

I have 2 Nest IQ cams and have had the Nest app to monitor them.I just picked up the Nest Cam floodlight and find out this cam does not work on the Nest app, it only works on the Google home app and the layout/features of each app are different. Very disappointing !!!

So with neither camera can you do a video dump or storage onto an external hard drive???

Okay, I got confused in the first few minutes. Do I need to pay $6/month for Nest to be able to view videos and save them, or not?

From my view, the RING had the better quality all around topped with an app thats very well done.

I have the ring stick up cam and we got the solar panel with it. Now we charge the battery up in the ring cam and connect the solar panel but before the next day hit the battery dies and it doesn’t seem like it’s picking up from the solar panel energy when the battery is dying. We went to the geek squad but they just said it was the battery but when we got another battery it did the same thing. Can you do a demonstration of the ring stick up cam with solar panel. Maybe we’re missing something. Thanks in advance.

Having also tested the RING night vision I was incredibly impressed with it's performance. For reasons unknown I found the notifications troublesome. Sometimes they work (audibly) and sometimes they don't, anyone else come across this problem?

My biggest concern with the Ring cam is the time delay it takes before starting the recording, if you are quick and and move fast you can run past it in a few seconds and not be recorded at all ...

I realised that when I see a live feed on my ring camera it records the feed and saves it in the history. On the google camera if I watch a live feed it won't save it in the history.. cant seem to find a setting to fix this...

@steve I just got the ring stick up cam battery and have it set on person only and it's been the most accurate camera I've had so far.

Cameras only work on 2.4 and the routers now have 5g and sometimes the cable provider routers mess wirh function of cameras. There are no cameras that work with 5g so what router would you recommend do a video on that.

One plus with ring camer is of you link a few ring cameras together they all start reordering when one is activated. Also un the rinf plan of you camer get Stolen or damaged to to a break in ring will replace but you need a uploaded clips. Also a stolen ring camer will never be use again it lock on your account. Any one can steal the other brand reset and sell or use your stolen camera and no replacement

Does anyone know of a good wireless 24 hour security camera? These cameras don’t seem to have the resolution to see licence plates etc.

IMO, I thought Nest in the day hours had too much shadow on the image, night video Ring blew Nest away.

Nest looked great during the daytime. 24/7 recording is needed here too. I have ring stick up cameras. I agree the app is superb! The more expensive ring cameras aren’t worth it at all though. But the $199 ring cams seem instant because I talk and my voice goes off on the cameras exactly as I talk. On the stick up cams there is a split second delay. I tried the $199 ring cam and I just couldn’t get over the price when I might as well save money and get a stick up cam that does just as good. I do have issues with microphone and talking back and forth with someone on the stick up cams. The minor delay, yes but also the sound is very choppy all the time and that was another issue I had with the $199 ring cam. The nest cam seemed very clear with you talking. I do wish they made a black nest cam though. I want to put these up on trees in my front yard to get better view of cars and people walking on the sidewalk etc. nest cam would stick out and of course I have no need for a light on these cameras. That will just give it all away where they are mounted. The ring stick up cams don’t seem like they can handle harsh weather elements though. They look more like indoor desk cameras lol. Nest looks more rugged. Arlos look very rugged too. If you are on a big time budget I would get stick up cams to start. Nest cam night vision clarity was the killer. I didn’t know ring had better night feed. I need to check that out tonight in complete darkness in my front yard. I have them all mounted in my backyard now. Well lit etc. I have been watching so many different brand of camera videos. Driving me nuts what is best. I might just stick with ring for all my camera needs. It always goes back to ring when I’m trying to decide. I would try arlo but heck no $700 for the system I want. I could buy 7 ring stick up cams for that much. And 1080p video quality is just fine. The more quality a camera has the more power it’s gonna need. Battery will drain faster. Nest cam is $149??? Yikes. Forget it lol

I will use my new Ring 3rd gen camera for an indoor Cat video..lol When i bought the Ring camera...the dealer told me, that if you have motion lights, the night vision will be colored....he lied..LOL I will have to look around for a new brand. As for the RING APP...I don't like that , when ever I check my phone to live....and turn on the APP , it autmatically takes me to "ACCOUNT VERIFICATION"...where it asks me , everytime, to choose a new account verification method and won't let me get to my account , where the dash board is....yeesh.

Which famed a has better videoing. The ring miss footing when the camera snakes a video. Working. A few minutes the camera won't record

Steve I need your help I sent you a message a little while ago about my ring camera and the playback mode I have people in the video for a couple seconds and then they disappear for four five seconds and then reappear what can I do to fix this problem I have full signal internet's working good the only thing running on the Wi-Fi is the cameras any suggestions thank you

We've had a Nest outdoor camera (mounted inside in the front window) for a few years now. We have a lot of issues with it not recording activity, or recording too much activity. We live on a busy street so it records every single car that goes by, even though it isn't in our activity zone. Sometimes there will be people walking by or cars pulling in and out of our driveway and Nest won't pick it up, even during broad daylight. Going to try switching to Ring and see if it works better. Definitely not a fan of the Nest especially for the price they charge per month. Edit: I switched our home over to Wyze V3 cameras and it works great in the same spot. I also added one in the backyard behind a window screen and even that picks up images and works just fine.

Always give models and costs. Maybe I missed that?

It's 2022, if Ring or Google wants safety for their customers and to catch criminals, it would be a good idea to at least have 4K when 8K surveillance cameras are available currently. Please stop using 1080p, which is ancient, use at least 4K. Add a 180-degree view, 24/7 recording, 8MP, and 12MP for viewing fonts from far away in detail, color night vision, vandal-proof, the black plastic cover around the camera lens should color match the same white color so that it looks discreet and same for other colors. Ring and Google products need to improve dramatically.

We had ring and lived in A CITY during BLM. Ring was VERY selective about what it did and did not record. It was not reliable, and it would seem to NOT record depending on WHO it was looking at.. We will never use it again.

Nest has better dynamic range

Ring have image distortion and Nest in battery is not optimal, you should test also wired. Even without spot light, you could try with normal light with motion detection, that would be interesting.

Ring upping their subscription fees without adding anything of value is why I am getting out of the Ring ecosystem. For 3 cameras I'd be paying $180/year. Switching to Google I will be paying $80. Ring just got greedy and I'm not contributing to that nonsense. Charging per device was always a shitty business model.
