Nice touch to quote Harvey Dent from one of my favorite movie trilogies! 👍 I have not yet switched to a video doorbell (and that's inspite of having several free ones sent over by companies that wanted to partner and integrate their products into our smart research platform). But that could be because I am picky about latency, no subscription fees, no being tied into any manufacturer's ecosystem etc.....and because I am able to replicate most of the features (except the chime) built into video doorbells with regular cameras from Reolink with Blue Iris or even Raspberry Pi with motioneye (and few Twillio and/or Sendgrid routines for notifications) . 🙂 Completely agree with your assessment though (especially for non-geeks like me) about Eufy for budget conscious consumers and the newer Ring Pro for people with extra budget (even though many of my friends are sick of the increasing latency with their older models - planned obsolescence in older models?). Question: What is your thought about any theft deterrent features built into the doorbells you reviewed here? I know there was concern previously about some doorbells getting built in SD card storage to solve the missing 24/7 recording problem but that was defeated if the doorbell could be stolen relatively easily.

This is the second home in which ru-vid.comUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

Place a heat pad behind the ring setup if wired. It will be a makeshift build but a solution nevertheless. If you want to get fancy you can get an Arduino (or some type of IFTTT trigger) to program it to only kick off at certain low temps. I have a heat pad warm up my lithium batteries at a certain temp automagically.

Have been using Eufy for 2 years now and love their system. Also have 2 of their cameras, all connected to their base station. Notifications are fast and reliable. Video quality is very high. Batteries last approx 6-7 months ( I live in Seattle. Gets cold in winter, but usually not freezing). Nice not to have to pay monthly fees and you can store a ton of video on their base station system.

I just purchased the Wyze doorbell for 2 reasons. 1: I like having multiple chimes in the home and I can choose a different sound for each doorbell. 2: I already have Wyze cams, Wyze plugs, Wyze thermostat, and Wyze lights. So it just made sense to stay with that ecosystem. I don’t mind the delay because right now I have no delay and I have a second cam on my front porch anyway.
@jayharvey9239

Wyze products are inexpensive and there is a reason. Wyze has gone downhill as a company. Their customer service is an exercise in frustration. The constant updates risk deteriorating the image quality and function of your older Wyze cameras. They don't support previous versions making all your original Wyze systems obsolete and virtually useless. AND $1.99 per camera per month adds up real fast/ plus a $60. annual fee for their home security Kit.

I have the Wyze Doorbell on my side Door where it's a step up to get in so it's a narrow area and it works perfectly for my needs. I agree that I wish it had a SD card reader but for what I use it for, it's great. On my front door I use the new Ring Wired doorbell and it can see my entire yard, I'm very impressed with the viewing angle and picture quality. The only thing I don't like is the monthly fees for the full functions for both devices. That leaves my back deck and back door with a wireless doorbell/flood lamp to install and you've given some great suggestions.

Thanks for this video which is perfect timing for me. One thing is consistently left out even from manufacturers are the physical dimensions of the devices. So far I found that Nest Doorbell is the slimmer. Even then, it's an eigth of an inch too wide to be put on the jamb. I really wish they would be slimmer or had a slimmer adapter especially for the angled installation.

The wired Ring doorbells (as well as wired Nest Hello doorbells) are great products. HOWEVER, they don't tell you upfront that these wired doorbells all have an internal non-user-serviceable battery. IF you will be using the doorbell with a mechanical chime, just be aware that at some point, the battery inside will fail. The internal battery on these units are used to provide temporary voltage to the doorbell unit when a mechanical chime is used. When someone presses the doorbell button, power is temporarily routed away from the doorbell to the chime inside the house. The battery keeps the doorbell powered for the 1-2 seconds while this happens. Over time, this small battery will be unable to deal with the voltage drop and your doorbell will lose power and reboot itself. If you don't rely on a mechanical chime or if you use the Ring wireless chime, than it won't be an issue. If you do use a mechanical chime, depending on your environment (which includes usage rate, weather, temperature, etc.), the doorbell will stop function properly at some point in time. For most users, it seems to be somewhere between 1-3 years.
@ilyas_khan
@ilyas_khan 2 года назад
If you use a battery powered ring that can also be wired up to provide a trickle charge, would you have this same issue?
@axlahn
@axlahn 2 года назад
@@ilyas_khan I'm not sure if Ring has any battery powered products that can be wired to a mechanical door chime. The ones I'm aware of can be charged by the doorbell wiring but do not have the ability to ring a physical chime besides the wireless electronic chime that Ring sells (and this chime is powered by a standard indoor outlet). But in general, you won't have that issue as any supplemental power for a mechanical chime would come from the replaceable and rechargeable battery which is not present in the Ring Pro / Pro2.

Very infomative video. The one that's missing IMHO is the DoorBird. It's pricey but well built hardware, and the nice thing is that it can be used without their (free) cloud service: you can pull the video feed with RTSP, and have the doorbell part work through a SIP telephone exchange like Asterisk. We're using a few of these in our properties, and we have fully integrated it into our home automation solution.

Very nice comparison. One thing that is probably lower-level consideration is mechanical/digital existing doorbells. Support for them and speed at which they ring is important for those of us that have them (I have one that plays music/whatever clips outside). Ring Pro 1 supports them but had a 2-3 second delay before the chime sounded but the Pro 2 is instant.

There was a shooting outside of my house where my Ring Pro managed to catch the vehicle through the 30-second camera snapshots but couldn't make out the license or the model of the car because it was at night. I purchased the Wyze doorbell and I am seriously considering replacing it. By the time you get the notification that someone is at your door, they're already gone. 50% - 60% of the times I try to check the live feed, it won't connect to my wi-fi. I have to restart it to get it to function. Worst of all, every day from 2pm until about 5pm, the sun shines directly on the doorbell, it overheats, and doesn't work at all. Wyze, as a company, needs to find a direction. One month they announce that they are coming out with outdoor wireless cameras, next month they've moved on to robot vacuums and the cameras are forgotten. The month after that they move on to fitness watches and the vacuums are forgotten. They need to find one thing that they are really good at and then get really great at it. Don't just half-ass a project then move on.

I got the wyze. I like it. But like you said the notifications are horrible. Notified 3 min later the person has already left. Wyze serves a purpose to allow entry level users. To push bigger companies to innovate and bring prices down.

Bought Nest doorbell 1 year ago and worked great for about 10 months, to include the capturing of approaching individuals from about 20-25 feet; however, it no longer can detect motion unless 5-7 feet away and I contacted tech support; we want through changes in the app and reset the unit; then they sent me replacement unit since within year warranty and the same thing; have to be about 5-7 feet or closer to trigger motion, and they now claim it can be my wifi, which there was no issues during first 10 mos; I saw online others experiencing same thing, and I’m thoroughly disappointed!!! Never again, and will switch to Ring Pro 2 Which I should have bought instead of fecal Nest doorbell

Isn't it clear that best all-round doorbell here (and by best I'm referring to image quality both day and night, given that this seems to be the most crucial aspect) was the Ring Pro 2?

@@Mr.Torres831 I haven't bought yet actually, so let's go through it as we all have different interpretations. Two things first though: none of them are good enough quality really, given what you can achieve with even a cheap £150 Sansco 1080p 4-cam CCTV system from Amazon. But also, I was basing my opinion on the night-time quality mainly, because that's when I'm more likely to have someone come to the door who's not known, not easily-identifiable later (like a delivery driver would be, even from scant detail), or someone who's up to something dubious. *Wyze* - Daytime = Hardly any real detail on face, Night = About the same *Unify* - Daytime = Not enough contrast on face, Night = Next-to-no detail *Ring Pro 2* - Daytime = Not fantastic but definitely better detail/ contrast when subject comes close to cam, Night = Slightly speccly image but definitely more detail *Netatmo* - Daytime = Face too dark again, so although plenty of colour, not much detail, and overall not as crisp an image as the Ring, Night = Similar to the first two *Nest* - Daytime = not enough light/ detail on face, Night - Next to no detail on face. *Eufy* - Aha. I was judging by the brief clip shown here, but having just gone back and watched his dedicated review of that particular doorbell, I have to admit that it's pretty good. Better or worse than the Ring? Probably about even. Frankly, I would have like to have seen the same test done at a location which isn't enclosed like that, and where more natural light during the daytime or light from streetlamps might have helped. In the meantime I shall probably wait for something better to come to the market, as I'm slightly baffled as-to why mobile phones (with similar sized sensors) can give near-professional quality images/ video, yet dedicated security devices such as these can't get anywhere near.

Great job, thanks for including the Unifi G4. Looks like that's what I'll be getting.

Another great review. Have you look at the Lorex 2K? I have two, one for the front door and one for the back, but I have mixed feelings about them. On the plus side it has no-fees, local storage and I also have it recording 24/7 via RTSP to my NVR which is awesome because I can view it on my TV along side my other cameras on the NVR, that feature is a must for me. The person detect works really well, the image quality is quite good for a doorbell camera and the HDR works really well. I have a 3-1/2 watt LED porch light and it's bright enough to give me a color picture at night. The problem I'm having is that on occasion the notifications can take forever...as in several minutes! It's not a signal problem and it's not a power problem. There are so many great reviews on Amazon it has me wondering what can be wrong.

I bought the Netatmo as in the UK it's one of few available and the ONLY one that works with HomeKit. Some others are simply not available to buy here. I was after the Logitech but it's not in the shops. I bought a bell chime so no issues with hearing the bell being pressed.

Hi Reed, thanks for the video! It's awesome as always. But do you mind adding Arlo and Blink as well? Seems those two brands are also worth to be rated.

This was a good review but my issue with all these youtube reviews is they do a great job covering the features but if you read through the reviews from online stores (ie: Amazon or BestBuy) features is not the major issue people have with these doorbells. 1) difficulty of installation (App simply won't connect to bell, or app won't work on certain OS) 2) Network connections (ie: won't connect to wifi if router has both 2.4 & 5.0 Ghz transmission) 3) Poor customer service (they don't stand by their product even if it is clearly their fault) 4) Not working as advertised (ie: does not always detect motion, doorbell does not always ring or notify when pressed) I've owned a half dozen of these over the years and my honest opinion, they ALL eventually fail either partially or completely within 1 or 2 years. So in short, caveat emptor: they are all about as reliable as a 1980s Fiat.

I have the Eufy and have loathed my decision. It won't integrate with my homebase that I have from the Eufycams to include face detection. So that means, the eufy cam that sits in my backyard can tell me *who* is in my back yard if I've trained it on face recognition for that person, but it can't do the same for people coming to my front door. The motion detection has been been very hit or miss, as well. I will have folks walk up, drop a package, take a photo, then walk off without it recording any motion. BUT it will tell me every time a leaf blows through its activity zone. I have found I cannot depend on it for front door motion detection.

I think you need to check your connections in your house for your doorbell and get a more powerful amp because the G4 doorbell that I put in has none of those problems as in no audio delay none of that stuff I went above and beyond the power that it said it's required and it works flawlessly audio quality is very crisp and clear through talking I was so shocked how good it was none of that rattly stuff that you had

As always, great video. I really appreciate your consistent methodology. I would love to see you add the Ezviz DB1 to your comparo. I've used it for a couple of years and feel it is probably at least as good as most of the ones featured here.
