Finally got me a Nest Protect with my Nest Learning Thermostat! But in this video I tested the smoke alarm to see how it reacts to it.

If I see a fire outside my house and I am afraid that the fire may spread to my house, how can I activate my alarms without it saying that it is a test or stopping before I silence it? Is there an easier way with buttons and phone or do I have to take a lighter and hold up flame in the air till it starts beeping

Ive read that nest protect and thermostat will work together. The protect will detect smoke and will cut your HVAC condenser unit and air handler off so it doesnt circulate smoke to other parts of the house etc the baby room if its like a small fire in the kitchen or something and the baby's asleep so its not a life or death. Super cool stuff.

Yeah I was actually thinking about doing a video on that. Yeah it actually does do that. There's a setting on the Nest Learning Thermostat to turn it on or off.

The Nest Thermostat also shows an on-screen warning if your Nest Protect senses smoke or carbon monoxide! Kinda like an Alertus beacon.

Nest actually is the best, the option to heat/cool your house after you return from a trip so you don’t waste energy is amazing!

Yeah and also to fine-tune your heating schedule. When i'm at work and think about how cold it was in the morning when getting out of bed, i just open the Nest app on my phone and adjust the schedule so it won't be cold next morning :-) With a regular thermostat you have to think about such need when you're actually home and walk to the thermostat and fiddle in complicated menus. I have 6 Nest Protects, 4 camera's, and the thermostat. Great stuff.

I got the first gen protect 2 years ago. Still working good. Need 6 more though. Waiting for them to be on sale for maybe black friday. 😅

@@Eccentech i got a 4 Bedroom house. Only one of my kids room has one lol! I honestly need one for: 1. Kid's room 2 2. Kid's room 3 3. Mom and dads room 4. Hallway 5. LivingRoom 6. Kitchen. 7. Maybe the wash room since its at the far side of the house lol! 😅

@@joseluisruiz3789 Nah don't put one in the kitchen. Regulations advise against that cause there's gonna be so many false alarms when you're cooking or something.

@@Eccentech i will take your advice and not do that. Yeah i dont want false alarms and then having to go through thw whole house shutting each one of them off manually when the app doesnt want to work lol! 😅👍

I am a HVAC technician. Be careful with that Nest thermostat. They tend to short cycle your furnace and A/C. Most Tech's are not fans of them... Unless they are selling them.

@@Eccentech dont listen to him. By the way the common wire means nothing to make something short cycle. Hes talking about the condenser unit (one that makes hot and cold the other one pushes the air) cutting on and off too fast which hasnt happened on anyone I know who has one even amazons ecobee. I think it's a user error if it does.

No I bring up the C wire because that's what provides it power and I heard the Nest likes to steal power to stay on
