You cannot hush the alarm if the smoke level is too high, so that is working as normal. It is a requirement for all smoke alarms, mine can't be hushed if the smoke levels are too high as well.
Getting married in February and looking for a place together is at the top of our list. I will definitely have to purchase a couple of the guys. Thanks or sharing :)
this version of the nest alarm you seem to have seems to make the same loud horn alarm as other smoke detectors. The one I tried in the store sounded different, and wasn't ear splitting loud.
Looking for a wired smoke alarm... appreciated being able to see the packaging/how it mounts to the wall. Thanks! Just found your channel - did you also try out the Nest Thermostat?
I have the Nest Learning Thermostat, and I like that I can schedule when to cool the house. It learns when we are home or away and adjust for it. Plus it will set itself on Eco Mode to save energy. Might have to add this to the rest of the smart items in my house.
Remember smoke rises so if you have this product on let’s say a table then it might be too late by the time smoke banks down low enough for this alarm to detect. That’s why old fashion smoke alarms are mounted above to doors..... looks like it can do the job just mount on a shelf as high as possible.
How does this send a text to your phone? I live in the country and have crappy reception at work. With these two combined, would i still receive a text in an emergency?
PipenFalzy According to Nest, you won’t be able to silence Nest Protect if smoke is above levels specified by law. This is an industry rule that all alarms follow. If it’s something burnt toast, you can silence it.
They sell a wired unit, but it apparently will not have the wired interconnect feature like every smoke detector on the market! This is a stupid design, because all housing codes require all smoke detectors to be interconnected! These units can not be installed with other manufactures unites. Because, they claim their Units are interconnected wirelessly, which is also very unsafe as any wireless system can be defeated with external signals, deliberately or accidentally! No safety system should ever depend on a wireless signal to provide protection! Setup or added alarm would be ok but not the basic alarming!
Google Nest Protect can be easily silenced by pressing the button or by using the app. All Heads-Up alerts and some Emergency Alarms can be silenced. However, if smoke levels are too high, then the alarm can’t be silenced. This is an industry requirement for ALL smoke alarms.
