Your plan is ingenious. Absolutely incredible. If I still was living in a single family home I would copy your endeavors. I am sure that you indicated to the app that the upstairs one was in the attic. That was your lower level one will announce (God forbid) a fire in the attic. Happens more than people realize. Beautiful use of Nest. Thanks again for the Idea.
Thank you! We have an old fashioned screaming alarm and I can't take the noise anymore; I get panic attacks. At least this gives me a chance to have a working alarm and shut off a false alarm quickly. Very clear video.
You may want to disable path lighting for the one in the attic to save battery since you won't be needing it. Nice "save" on cancelling the test! I was thinking at first why install in the attic as you won't hear it, but they will be connected to each other and announce together the location of the smoke/fire or CO.
Ronald Orosz thanks for watching I found out about that from Adam corrloa podcast yes it was diy it didn’t make a huge difference in my little townhouse just a little I could have gone closer to the top maybe not sure I would do it again
I want to change the batteries in my Gen 2 Nest Protect (hard wired) and can't seem to remove it from the plate which is mounted to the ceiling. I've tried everything (turned it both directions, given it a hard tug from different positions…watched every video on installing them…) Am I just not using enough force?
Thank you. My old detector had odd holes and I can't flush securely all 4 screws, so if you go right up to mine, it looks a little janky. I feel like it'll stay up there however wish I could have a clean install instead of what I have, and removing old plate reveals unpainted drywall. Sigh.... May have to hire pro to make it look cleaner.
If I have 3 wired ones in my apartment but want Battery Powered couldn't I just cap the wires and allow set up the new battery powered nest over? I would need to put the old ones back before I leave here. So I'd keep them. I'm asking because I'm getting a great deal at 3 Battery Powered for $175
Juan Ramos thanks for watching not sure of your layout I would think 1 is probably enough you could always get a regular one if you have a wired layout to play it safe
