I just wanted your video as I have a Heatmiser wireless stat system with 5 zones (3 stats) of UFH and 1 for rads and hot water. My control box looks very similar, but I have an antenna for wireless stats (all 4 of them). However, after reading some wireless range / interference issues with Nest's mesh wifi where the stats talk to the heat links, I am having 2nd thoughts as this is one of the problems I have with Heatmiser - control unit seems to call heat to UFH/rads whenever it feels like - even in summer (where I have to turn off CH on the boiler to stop getting cooked)! When I opened a ticket with Heatmiser, they said stats are too far from control unit. I proved it wasn't the case as even if i put the stat on top of the control unit 2" from antenna - it was still playing up. Spent a lot of money on system that doesn't work well at all (wish I had run wiring!).

Great video. Thanks. I was thinking of getting something like this. Not sure if this would work for us through. We have a three bed semi-detached. We use two of the bedrooms as offices during the day and need to heat them during the day in the winter. We don't really heat the other bedroom (better sleep if you keep your bedroom cool). During the day when we are working upstairs we shut off the radiators downstairs. In the evening we turn off the radiators in the two bedroom/offices and turn on the radiators downstairs in the living/dining room. The circuit is already at temp so the room warms up pretty quick. We have no room thermostat anywhere in the house and the rad's all have TRVs. I'd like to fit something like a Nest in the living/dining room so we can set an actual celsius temperature for the room, but if we are going to the trouble of doing that then maybe we should get something that can turn the rad's on and off room by room. At the moment we just turn the TRVs for whatever room we are using from off to the setting we know is comfortable for us, usually about 2-3... Seems like if we ditch the TRV's for the room that the Nest thermostat is in we still have to manually turn rad's in the rest of the house on and off (which would still be fine of course). I think Charlie DIYte did something on this as well. I'll check there as well. I think the system he went for effectively has thermostats for each room, effectively equivalent to every room having it's own room one of those lovely Nest ones. Individual thermostats for each room would probably be an ideal set up for us as we are now both working at home all day and it would make it possible to be disciplined about temperature settings and keeping the bills under control. Would be interested in your thoughts if you are still checking comments on this vid, or from anyone else for that matter.

wireless thermostatic valves i think would be what you need, have a look at a system where you can have radiator valves that pair to an app and you can turn them on and off or set when they are to go on and off.

Is the process the same for S plan Unvented system with a gas boiler?
@rubiroo9394

Hi I am struggling to find a solution on how I can install nest which would work on my system. I have the following. 50KW boiler connected to- 1) valve to send hot water to the underfloor heating 2) valve to send hot water to the joule unvented cylinder. The valves are opened via a two channel timer for hot water and heating, with timers set for when the boiler is fired. I’m not bothered about using nest for the hot water, just the UFH. The UFH is controlled by 3 manifolds each with approx 6 actuators on. Approx 20 actuators in total all linking to approx 10 danfoss thermostats. The issue I have is that yes I can replace the thermostats with the nest solution which when on demand for heat will open the actuators for hot water, however as the hot water from the boiler is only turned on by the 2 channel timer, it will only come on if the boiler is set to be on permanently. Is there a way that when the new thermostat calls for heat and opens the actuator on the manifold it can request the boiler to be turned on? I’m guessing the two way channel timer will need changing but what too? Really struggling with this, any help would be appreciated

Even when it's freezing inside the home - the small number (which I believe is known as the ambient temperature) on the Nest Thermostat always stays at 22.5 degrees. Do these Nest thermostat really sense the current temperature of the room they are in as I don't think they do which means I have to manually turn the heat on all the time. What's the point of having this if it can't turn on manually when temperature of the room falls below a certain level because it just keeps showing 22.5 degree C all the time. This came preinstalled with the new build home - do you think there is something wrong with its installation

Hi James, I have a nest gen 3, with a vokera boiler, and I also have solar panels on the roof that heat my hot water. My issue is obviously this time of year the panels aren’t really heating my hot water and I currently have the hot water setting on my nest set to off which is resulting in me having no hot water on really cold days. What’s best for me to do have the setting set to on at this time of year or set schedules? And then back in the summer months turn it back to off and let the panels do the work again? Hope you can help. Cheers

@kaitlyn__L
@kaitlyn__L 4 года назад
i know this was two years ago now... but.... is it possible this is the pre-heat setting working as intended? it can turn the heating on up to 5 hours before you've scheduled it to turn on, if it thinks it'll take that long to get up to temperature. the setting should be called "true radiant" if you've set it up to know you have radiators. the setting is meant to also stop the temperature from overshooting and making it too hot from the heat leftover in the water when it stops pumping around the radiators. have you been letting it run to see what happens later, or have you been interrupting it when you hear the radiators come on?

It's absolutely a design flaw having a very complex configuration in the device itself. Fancy display, to much color,overengineered, expensive garbage... A simple, elegant design with 2 or 3 info is more than enough. Then INVEST in the APP!! The smartphone is a remote, pocket computer by design!
