We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ru-vid.comUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
$500 with only 2 sensors. seems like a rip off to me. on top of that extra sensors are $59. ouch! for $500 this thing should come with about 10 sensors. what the hell are 2 sensors going to protect a hotel room, lol.
Jeff Johnson I thought the same thing, but I have a small 2BR house with an open floor plan. The 2 sensors cover the 2 entryways and they double as motion sensors. The key pad thing is also a motion sensor with a little under 180° range. I got mine through tmobile and it came with the items in this video and an indoor camera. It's nice that it alerts my phone (and anyone else you add as an administrator). For the money, I wish it came with more than a trial for the full service to call the police or fire department, but it's better than what I had before. I had ADT, and for the same features and similar notifications, I was paying almost $70/mo. With the best system, I get 0% financing for 2yrs for the equipment (just under $20/mo and $10 or maybe it's $5/mo for the back up cellular line I can't remember, but as a veteran, tmobile discounts my total bill 50%. So I'm saving over half, and it's portable for when I travel for work. It seems to work well for what it is and I like how it integrated with my thermostat, smoke/carbon monoxide detector and the extra thermometer sensor so I can keep the master BR the temp I want instead of the living room where the nest thermostat is located. I forget where I was going with this, but the 0% financing with T-Mobile, it makes it worth it.
Get the Ring Alarm the cost is much cheaper. $300 just for 2-5 motion sensors,9 door sensors,a base alarm station and a key pad,I also think that Nest is a rip off because seriously you have to pay up to $500 anually per camera come on I can easily get 8 years out of this with Ring cloud recording that is only $30 per year and $100 per year for any ring camera I purchase. Ring 5 Piece = $200 Ring 10 Piece = $300 Ring 14 Piece = $330
Needs a battery powered keypad that can be placed on a wall...that way i can place the nest guard in a discreet location out of immediate view...needs further integration with nest protect. So that the nest protect alarm will also sound when the nest guard goes off...then i might buy....
I have 2 important questions. first, can you permanently disable the siren function so smartphone alerts are the only notification method? Secondly, does this product integrate with Philips Hue to any capacity? Thank you.
Can you customize it to arm with motion on some sensors and not on others? I have a large dog downstairs that will trigger the motion sensors. But I’d like to have motion sensors upstairs
So, looks great but let's say 1. My cell has to be on and in cell range with data connection to receive the alert, right? No 3rd party monitoring system, right? 2. I know that thing has a battery but and is protected against unplugging - But lets say someone brakes in and drops the main box in a bucket of salt water. - Since salt water acts as a very good shield for any kind of radio waves there will be no alarm send, right? or does it sent the alert right way to the server and if no disarm comes you get a notification? These are the really interesting questions to me - you have answers?
I do! Yes, as long as it has wifi (or cellular backup if you pay) Nest Guard will instantly report detection to the cloud. If it does not send another signal within your set time saying it was disarmed then the alarm will be raised on the cloud server. You also have the option of paying for professional monitoring in conjunction with Moni. Hope this helps.
I bought a backup battery for my wifi/router that will last for over 8 hours if the power goes out, so no reason for me to get the cell phone connectivity.
Thanks for the video, it was informative. As a current Nest owner and a brand X alarm user, this is a price stretch for less than similar service, But I am thinking about it. The downside the monitor service is +$6 more a month for the base service and another +$5 for the cellular connectivity to almost match what I already have. And Nest is missing to boat if you elect for their monitoring company they should be monitoring my Nest Protects and call the fire department. And since the Nest Protects sense in the room for a movement, they should be in the alarm triggering as a cool option My service calls the fire department at a lower price today. So after buying $649 of hardware to match want I have an no Fire protection for $122 a year more ... I will sit on the sidelines for a little while and watch.. Sad since I have all Nest Products now. Oh if you're a first-time alarm buyer and using a service.. Most cities now require annual permits too, no reflection on Nest.
@@GamerRusith Yeah. When simplisafe fixes their vunerability (If they will, they've been denying it for years) that will probably be the best system. Although for now it's probably the vivint system.
No. It is completely optional. Same with the cellular backup. If you would prefer to monitor it yourself (keeping in mind that without the cellular backup subscription it only sends you notifications over wifi) you may do so for free.
It doesn't have a wall mounted bell. One of the biggest deterrents to a thief is the alarm that goes off warning neighbours and passers by that you have been broken in to.
Send me the set please, I'm in the UK and already have Google mini and an entry level smart home set up with light bulbs and nest thermostats. Just can't get this in the UK yet but it would be a great addition
TechnoBuffalo i understand there is a free option but after you pay 1/4 of a month salary for a averige person then I don't expect it to be extreme limited because you don't pay per month.. Further more if you want to truelly secure your house you will need to have more then just the ones thst come in the box. Don't get me wrong I love there thermostate but for this there are cheaper alternatives.
it only rearms itself when you close the door or window. You have 10 seconds to open the door or window once the button is pressed, then it stays infinitely disarmed until you close it. If you like to close your door when you go out ( like for a walk), that's fine, just take your Tag or prepare to type in your code within your set time to disarm the alarm when you enter again.
Google assistant can not find the device. In google wifi best guard is recognized as thermostats. I tried restart and reset, did not work. Anyone how to fix this?
but then you have already been notified on the phone. if it sounds like the nest fire detector you cant be in the same room for too long. also you can share notifications with your neighbours so when the alarm goes off they will get the same notification as you will. even if you are not home your neighbour maybe is and they can take action. sound is just a small part of this alarm system and not the most important one
Patrik Gårdewall i disagree. Sound is very important to terrify a theif. I guess if there is someone breaking to somebody's house, I will be afraid to go an check. Maybe i got killed. But using alarm systems the thief shall run away, else he will disconnect the alarm and continue his work which won't take more that a couple of mins.
If it starts ringing when a burglar goes in to the house it will be pulled out of the wall and smashed on the ground / rapped in a blanket to silence it. The cops are unlikely to get there for 10 -20 mins and the criminal will be in and out in 2mins. You need an alarm box on the outside of the house as s a visual deterrent and once triggered cant be silenced with out a ladder. What I'm saying is nest you need an external alarm sounder and box.
In away mode there isn't much point to the siren other than to scare crooks away, it is unlikely that anyone else will hear the siren that is inside the house.
Nest Guard has a motion sensor that can detect up to 10 feet in front of it with a 90 degree angle. Nest Detect can also be used for motion when placed on a wall or door and can detect up to 15 feet in front of it at a 180 degree angle.
Question about when you press the button to temporarily go outside of the home and not set off the alarm. What happens when you open the door when you come back inside?
Once the door or window is closed after a quiet open, it re-arms itself. This means if you open it again, the alarm will sound. The door or window can be left open an infinite amount of time once quiet open is used, but during this time an amber indicator will be shown on the info light on the Guard.
I think it's more for if someone is leaving (for example, early in the morning). Another use is if a guest is last in the house. They can leave the house without setting off the alarm.
Hey Austin, I made the same mistake it appears you've made when I set up my Nest Detects. The actual Detect with the button on it should be on the door (the part that moves), while the magnet should be on the door frame. I made this mistake and didn't realize it for over a month. It resulted in unexpected open door detection delays, which could have been exploited in a burglary. Now the doors are detected instantly when open. Tl;dr Place the portion of Detect with the button on the door itself, and the magnet on the frame. I hope this helps you guys when setting it up.
If it's connected through internet. It's hackable. Locally as well, but well you get the point. Still a nice alternative to the more expensive systems out there.
It has a back up battery so it cannot be shut off by unplugging it. You can also put on the wall outlet cover which is screwed in to your outlet and it cannot be removed unless a burglar has a screw driver.
Poor Review. There wasnt very little information regarding the specifics. For instance, are the sensors battery operated? Chargeable versus disposable batteries? What about tamper protection?
Nothing beats a hardwire alarm with 1 Terabyte of recording/-and internet access. Much more bang 4 your money. Pay for the install - average $800 . Recorder , 5/8!cameras $300- as much as you want to spend. No monthly dues, easy access and could last a lifetime. 8 Nest cameras $2,400 or 5 = 1,500 + monitoring for their lifetime. A good chunk. Check out a video of regular security vs smart.
It is still a lot cheaper than official security system like ADT that I was subscribed to so for the people that do complain, it's definitely more affordable, I was paying $110 every 3 months and the features were NOT as good as listed here.
Many people with traditional homes have a front door and a back door. With windows, however, it may be helpful to either have a camera in the room or a separate motion detector. However, if you have a nest doorbell or camera outside, it will make it a bit more unsafe, but you will still be notified, and I am pretty sure you can sound the alarm from the app.
The combination motion/contact sensor is interesting. The motion sensor is useless on a window with blinds, but the contact sensor would work. However, your paying $50 for both, where a contact sensor could cost $25. I think its all ZWave which mean it COULD work with any contact sensor, however, I doubt it will. They want to create that subscription echo system revenue. $500 buck for a zwave hub and a few sensors. WTF
Do you have any more I want one please make sure it doesn’t turn on the alarm with a foster care is in my room now I’m a child I’m not supposed to have them I’m six and I’m named Cherry 🍒
Doesn't sound very loud to me? Most security systems have a 100db siren, which is the legal limit for inside a home (to prevent hearing damage). Hard to say for sure from the video, but this sounds like maybe 75db.
Nest Guard uses an 85 Db siren. It may not seem very loud, but trust me, it is. Unless you have a house larger than the Bill Gates' mansion, it shouldn't be a problem to hear. I'd actually say it's very audible. One time (due to our own faults) a false alarm was triggered at 3 AM and it woke the whole family up within seconds. Should you have some kind of castle you are securing, just give it a special loud notification tone on your phone to wake you.
These people win the Goober of the year award! The Nest Guard detects motion and lights start flashing and the voice announcements that motion is detected. This leads the intruder to the unit and he grabs it and into the toilet! Doubt that it is water-proof. The best thing yet! you cannot disable the alarm and flashing lights announcement. WHAT A JOKE!!
Alisa Vasquez well i had the same thought too. when a thief breaks in the system is in countdown mode (before alarm gets triggered). the thief then promptly disconnects it and throws it into the toilet. water damages the Guard and it dies so notification is never sent to the owner. the system can be compromised so easily so what’s the point of spending $500+????
TheCloneRanger through nest it is 5 a month, if you buy the system from T-Mobile and set up service through then then it is 15 but that includes 10 day storage with the nest cameras.
Nest is slipping. So if I'm a thief what is to stop me from taking the base unit once the alarm starts and smashing it to silence? Why not integrate the nest smoke detector as well? What about two-way voice response on the app. It would be nice to tell would be intruders that the police are on the way. Where is the zwave integration how can I arm and disarm the system using Siri or Alexa or heck even Google Voice?
Max Jerome you don’t know enough about the system. If you have Nest Protects, they start going off as well as part of an integrated system. With 6 Protects in my house in addition to the Secure base, my neighbors on either side of me hear it with great clarity when it goes off.
Great idea, but it doesnt work like that. I just got off of the Chat with Nest: "I have checked the information and at the moments the Nest Secure is not integrated with the Smoke Sensor (Nest Protect)." I personally dont want a home alarm that can be bypassed by dropping it in a bucket of water.
Motion detectors only switch on when you set the system to Away and Guarding. You can also switch certain motion detecting devices - like Guard or Wall/Door Detect - to not contribute to motion detection.
I thought it was pretty cool and maybe a good affordable option for an apartment renter like myself.......... Until you said it was $500. WTF. Way too much. NEXT!
Very good hardware but useless app. When your alarm gets triggered it send you a notification on your phone. There is no alarm that sounds load on your phone just a ping. In my case I was in a busy restaurant when I received this ping and never heard it. So all this alarm is good for is to watch afterwards how they carried your stuff out your home
I'm not sure about your mobile phone, but mine gives me the option to set a custom sound specifically for alarms. Mine is an air raid siren, and overrides do not disturb settings.
The Nest Secure is a total waste of money in my opinion. ($400.00) ?? You can hardly hear the announcements when you're in the same room as the Nest Secure. I have to admit that the Siren is quite loud in the room where the system is located but you can hardly hear it from other rooms on the same floor. If you're on another floor you'll hear absolutely nothing, no announcements that a door or a window is open or that there's motion downstairs, or that the alarm siren is going off!. Sure you get a little beep notification on your phone several minutes after your alarm has been going off. Get a real alarm system or try the Ring Alarm system, at least the Ring system has additional speaker/siren that you can put throughout the house to hear all announcements and siren. Why Google will not allow you to hear the Nest Secure announcements through the Google smart speakers or the Google hub is beyond me!
Nest Secure does not have a monthly fee for the base package. if you wish to purchase professional monitoring (which includes cellular backup) or cellular backup on its own, then that is your choice. Personally, I own a cellular backup subscription, but professional monitoring is not a necessity for me.
