i just installed my nest x Yale lock, it is working beautifully well . i did not pay someone to do it for me , i followed the instruction and that's all. it is very easy to install
If the lock wont connect to your connect on your wifi network, set up a mobile hotspot. Connect the nest connect to the hotspot and try to pair them again. You have to push button on the inside of the lock to pair it to the connect before you scan the qr to pair them. Lots of missing instructions or advice that just doesnt work out there.
For those having issue connecting the Nest Connect to the Nest App, I finally did it by 1). Turning on airplane mode 2). Turning on wifi 3). Turning on bluetooth
I have just ordered one of Amazon and I have a metal door ,will it work or does it have to be a wooden door I'm guessing it's okay but just wanted to confirm?
The longer I own this lock the more I dislike it. I got it for Christmas and since January I have had to go through the installation process FOUR times because the Nest Connect and Nest Yale lock keep dropping off my WiFi network. When that happens you have to start all over again with installing the Nest Connect first, then the Yale Lock. In order to do this you MUST remove the yale lock from the door because the button needed to connect Nest Connect and the Yale Lock is on the BACK of the lock. Which engineer decided this would be the best place for the rest button. I am going to post here the REAL way to do this. First, you CANNOT install the lock to the door with the batteries in place. So, why tell us not to install with the batteries in place. You can't. The batteries cover the mounting screw holes. Your Nest Yale lock should have come with at least the Nest Connect device. If it didn't then you'll need to get one. That's the first issue with this installation. The Nest Connect is difficult, I do mean difficult, to get installed to the Nest app. You'll spend 30 minutes on this step. Once you have the Nest Connect installed, now you can start installing the Nest Yale lock. Be sure you have set aside about an hour for this step, minimum. Getting it attached to your door is the easy part. Getting it connected to the Nest Connect is not easy. Don't forget !! You'll need to access that button on the back of the yale lock, so if you've already installed it on the door, take it off. Is the blue light on the Nest Connect still on and glowing steady? Chance are it's green now. So, start over installing the Nest Connect to your Nest App. Are you getting the picture here? If you want to buy this product be prepared for a lot of frustration about every 30 days. The single most difficult part to all this is remembering how to re-install everything each time this happens. So, keep a good copy of the instructions taped to the door so they'll be nice and handy in 30 days.
I installed myself and I'm not handy AT ALLL!!!! I had to be a bit creative bc things weren't lining up and the strike plate whole for the deadbolt wasn't deep enough to fully extend deadbolt😪😪😪😪
I would suggest addeding this video from Yale in the description. Yale Real Living Deadbolt - Retracting Latch from 2 3/4 to 2 3/8 inches (22) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZKr44hQqY7I.html . I feel stupid now. I followed the Nest instructions to adjust the deadbolt length and inserted it, not really understanding what it meant by retracted. Once I was aware of my mistake, I didn't know what it meant or how to retract it as it went against what the paper instructions stated. Needless to say there was confusion and it added time to the install. The video from Yale, shows what the instructions mean by retracted and to do it before you adjust the length. So I thought I'd share incase anyone else gets in to the same spot of bother. Got there in the end :D
I have a lot of NEST products, as lately bought their outdoor NEST IQ. But pay U$ 249 for a door lock, that as someone pointed out here, doesn't have a physical backup key, no thanks. I love the NEST quality and attention to details, but they are most of the time away too expensive. Guess they have a version 2 with backup key, the same way they have now the IQ, since the first camera was kind of "joke" , as you need to open a hole of the size an "elephant" to have the power cable inside.
What if I bought the same yale lock but it doesnt come with nest connect? Mine is supposed to come with Zwave I have the google ecosystem at home can I just purchase a nest connect and use it being the Yale lock instead ?
You can voice control the lock from the Google Assistant - but only to lock the door - not to unlock (for obvious security reasons). You have full control over the lock from the Nest app - must be on a mobile device (not from a nest web login). Android mobile device power screen one can add a widget to control lock(s) including unlocking. I use this final method for one-handed unlocking of door.
I just installed the lock... but the nest connect bluetooth wall adapter isn't showing that 6 digit code behind it , that my nest app is asking for, how do I find it? THX
I changed my wifi and the entire thing is jacked up, I keep trying to re add the lock and it keeps telling me it's already added. Yes I already removed the device from the app.
According to google manual, you need one to coonect to app support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9251009?hl=en You will need to have either a Google Nest Guard or Google Nest Connect already installed and connected to the Nest app for The Nest × Yale Lock to work with the app. This is because the Nest × Yale Lock doesn’t connect directly to Wi-Fi. Instead, it uses Weave to connect to a Nest Connect or Nest Guard in your home. Your Connect or Guard, which are connected to your Wi-Fi network, lets your lock communicate with the Nest service and the Nest app on your phone.
You'll need "nest connect" or "nest guard." Nest sells a version of the "nest x yale lock" for $279 USD that comes with a nest connect if you don't already have it or the guard.
This didn't work for me at all. I tried installing it at my home and worked great. It took about an hour to figure out the Nest Connect because it came with NO instructions at all. - Note to self . . . put some instructions in the box!! Once I got it working at my house I thought I'd install it in a second location . . . that's when the wheels came off the bus! After 5 calls and almost 4 hours of dealing with tech support they offered to send me a new unit. Between Yale and Nest neither one of them had a clue as to how and reset it so I could put it on a new new network successfully. We did all of the steps at least 8 times and they said it must be an issue somewhere. The unit is going back!
I want to buy one, but it says I need another nest product to connect this lock, and it gives neat connect and nest guard as examples. Does the nest thermostat work?? I don’t wanna buy those and the lock.
I've been at this for over an hour and cannot get the "pill" to see the lock or lock to see the pill. Very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the case you are locked outside and the batteries are dead, there is an access at the bottom of the front plate where you can use a 9V battery to "jump start" the lock.
How much time should I plan to install the Yale Lock and set up the Nest Connect? I have a new Google Mesh wifi system with Google Home on my phone. I’m pretty handy around the house, but I don’t have experience working on door locks. Thanks!
The first one I did took me about 35 minutes from start to finish. The biggest delay is downloading the nest app, registering the QR code, etc. The quickest part was the installation. I had to bore out the door for this, I made sure there was absolutely no sawdust in the holes and that the deadbolt was installed with the 'up' facing up and the lock completely plumb (level). You can save a fair amount of time by downloading the nest app in advance and making sure you have another nest product logged in, first. However - I'm an electrician, so none of this was new to me. I'm not including the time it took to bore out the holes, mortise in the strike plate, etc.
Will it automatically unlock when I am close to it and am signed into the Nest app on my device? What temp ranges can it withstand? Will all the features work if the wifi is not very strong near the door where it's installed? Do I get support from Yale, Nest or both? If I change my door hardware to a different finish, can I swap the faceplate with a different finish on my lock or do I need to purchase a different one? If I installed multiple locks across the entrances to my home, can I sync them or do I need to program them individually? Feel free to add the answers to your product marketing pages as I couldn't find these answers on the Nest or Yale sites.
Unfortunately it seems like you'll need to open the app or use the code to unlock. I wish it had proximity sensors. Not sure if the security system tags can be integrated with the lock. They recommend you plug in the "nest connect" closest to the door and that it has a 40ft range. It doesn't look the finishes are interchangeable. If you have multiple locks, they can all be synced to your app but will appear individually based on the location in your house.
Hello Nest team, what size the hole needs to be? In the instruction booklet it says: 2 1/8 and the explanation videos and online instructions say 2 3/8 .... very confusing! I don't want to drill wrong size hole.... Please help
The video and online article refer to the offset, or distance the hole center needs to be from the edge of the door. This can be either 2 3/8" or 2 3/4". The hole diameter must be 2 1/4", which is standard for most doors.
Is the data cable between the exterior touchpad and the main (interior) unit fully seated? There is a piercing anti-tamper alarm that will go off if the connection is broken, even briefly.
yes. you will need a nest guard or a nest connect in order for the door lock to work. i believe you can only purchase the connect or guard with the lock only through www.nest.com website.
This is the second home in which ru-vid.comUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).
Not true. When installing, ensuring dead-bolt is in the open position (as per the instructions) the lock will auto-sense which turning direction to lock. So lock can be used on either left-side or right-side (if hinge is on left).
What if it dies? I live near the beach, is the salt air going to kill the electronics one day? If TouchPad is non-responsive, or lock malfunctions for some other reason other than dead battery, am I calling a locksmith at that point? How is a locksmith going to help me? Cut my door? Climb through a broken window? This seems like a terrible design without ability to manually operate with a real key.
There are two contacts on the bottom that let you temporarily power it with a 9v battery, it also warns you of low battery about 50 uses before they need to be changed out.
Don't buy this lock! I have had to take 2 different locks to best buy because 2 different locks have failed after 3-5 weeks! its the most trash lock I have bought
Hunk of junk! I have to put batteries into this thing every week...and no, there's no resistance on dead bolt...don't buy it unless you have no hair on your head to pull out
