*This is third unit **do7.pl/google** I've purchased... leave them when I leave a house.Have 1 in my current house and 1 in my cabin... it's great I can control the temp at my cabin so pipes don't freeze. Love this project!*
I've had a Nest for several years now and overall I'm pretty happy with it. To me, the ability to remotely make changes is the key feature and it does this well. However, the "learning" part is fatally flawed. There is only one sensor (in the unit) so if you don't walk by it occasionally it will think you have left and turn off the heat. After a while of this I turned that feature completely off.
if you can play on a smart phone, and laptop. you can work these things. I have the older one and looks much nicer. I did have to run a new wire to run this thing, not a big deal. setup isnt all that bad - read and understand what your clicking for it to do. set it to what you would like relatively close and dont change it much as it can learn faster, and you wont have to touch it again. mines been on its own for over a year and with proper settings, has saved me a lot of money by maintaining a steady temp when im home and at work.
I had this installed already but I can’t get the entry key .. I have the app on my iPhone 11 but my new iPhone 14 asks for entry key to use the app.. I can’t find the entry key …. Do I do factory reset??
Nice video, thanks..... but I have a question: can't it stay on ?!? That auto-off when u walk away is quite annoying... oh I see: The 3rd generation Learning Thermostat comes with its Farsight feature enabled by default.... but wait, does it activates when my dogs are roaming in there too ? :-D
Glad I watched the video! super easy to setup and I'm not that handy. Everything worked the first time around - glad I watched this video!! Highly recommend the Next E so far.
I just moved into a new place. The old owners left this nest. I reset to factory settings to add it to my account but it’s not connecting to my wifi. My network isn’t coming up. Also, don’t know what I did…but it’s now not blowing cold air. 😭
You may want to check to see whether or not you're going to need a Common (C) wire. That C wire keeps your Thermostat charged. I ended up having to buy a Honeywell wire converter that plugs into the furnace.
Chris Alfaro I have the 3rd Gen Nest, and even though it has a built in battery that will last a while, it still needs a source to keep it charged. In some instances, the heating and cooling wires will keep it charged. In others, however, it requires a special wire that comes from your furnace.
Nest told me my 3rd generation didn't need C wire. It worked fine for just a couple of months, until it started coughing the AC unit b/c the low battery.
Denzil Khine I said 2nd, but meant 3rd Gen. Mine definitely required a C Wire. Because my basement is finished, there's an adapter that we needed to convert the 4 wires to the required 5. IDK if you are still having the issue, but I can refer you to the adapter I bought.
Thanks. i just used my G as C. I don't really use the F control. Everything is working fine but would like to take a look at your adapter for future purposes. :)
I have last years model, and the screen is much nicer than this newer one. I do NOT like this frosted screen at all. The older screen is brighter, and more crisply designed for easy reading, especially if you wake up in the middle of the night. It does a very good job of keeping your place at the temps you desire. It's also great to be able to control it with Google Home or your phone. Excellent product.
Not bad not the nicest looking but what I REALLY want is a battery operated device, unlike America we in UK Europe it's a stand alone device that sits on a stand so NO back plate needed but would be nice with colour eink & battery
I was watching this in my office where I have a Google Home device and when the presenter asked Google to change the temp, my Google Home let me know it wasn't set up yet.
When I saw only heat on I was like o0 well I guess you don't cool your house lol but then it made me think this particular unit didn't have a cool mode just personal preference but I like my black screen one a lot better than this one! it just looks sexier.
Could never make Nest E do what I wanted it to do. It will always ignore my settings and schedules and do its own thing. I did not see any heating/cooling bill savings on the contrary. It would be nice if the programmers had included a ..."dumb" function in this supposedly smart thermostat, meaning a "hold" setting where you tell it to stay at a specific temp for a specific amount of time. Unfortunately after numerous attempts and back an forth emails the consensus is there is no such thing. So you will program your Nest to a lower temp during your night sleep say 66 but it will invariably kick in repeatedly in the middle of the night to warn the house to 70 F. I cannot fathom how other people like it so much, it has definitely NOT being my experience. And the worst thing is Nest does not really want to address the issues just beats around the bush and eventually ignores you. There are some homes where a basic mechanical manull set it and forget it thermostat will work better than this overpriced and overrated gizmo.
What a friggin scam! Google sells a product without all necessary hardware to mount it and then they expect to pay extra for the hardware. I have been on hold with Nest for 45 minutes now trying to get them to send me the steel mounting plate that is absolutely necessary to mout this thing over a electrical box. The gal tells me she has no way of sending me one and puts me on hold for a technician who can be more helpful. They include the steel plate with the more expensive model together with to cover plates and screw driver but not with model E. This is absoultely a sham.
Good video Tim, but that is one UGLY Nest thermostat … who on earth designed that at Nest or Google ??? After the stainless steel thermostat with a clear display, this just looks like cheap and nasty plastic sister of the elegant, luxurious stainless steel version. Everybody is now cashing in on this "smart" thermostat business. They are all going for elegant and high end, not going back and making one that is the "BUDGET" version and just shouts " I didn’t have the extra $80 and could only afford to buy the ugly budget version" !!!
Hmmm I have 4 zones and 2 cooling and 2 heating units, 4 thermonstats at $250 each? Mmmmmm, there's a reason I have this house, and it's not because of making bad financial decisions, lol. 1 cooling 1 heating unit, yeah then it's a go. Now do you get it? Didn't think so, lol.
The E version is the Budget version, I've found them on EBAY for around $125, and bought two, I expect to recoup that cost in the first year with the savings.
Burberry4U I am sure what Nest was trying to do - is make people use voice command and the app more, than constantly having to walkup to the thermostat itself to make any changes. Once you set it up then why would you need to always clearly see the screen when you can just use google home to tell it what you want changed? I mean, its NOT like you need to watch it like you’re watching a TV, or something! - lol 😂
As a Heating engineer I can say with my experience that all these fancy thermostats like nest and hive etc are a complete waste of money and overly complicated for your average and older house owners. We now have customers asking us to remove these stats and fit normal wired thermostats and timeclocks. Nest and hive etc are fancy unreliable overpriced rubbish do not bother with junk like this a simple wired thermostat will do the job with no complicated headaches!
REALLY? did you just say that? It is obvious that you have a personal agenda in this. This device couldn't be easier to set up and use and it works flawlessly. I guess that's your issue with it, fewer calls to an outside service...
Jason Brownett and it’s funny that you start your ranting off with: “as a heating engineer...” like you’re some fucking expert on what is appropriate for peoples homes! You’re an idiot who watches the latest technology but condemns it. That is so hypocritical! The problem with you is that you don’t understand that people want to live more efficient lives now and they want to be able to better manage their bills and how their money is spent. With these new technologies, we are now able to do just that! The ecosystem allows you to keep your temperature at a lesser usage when you’re not at home, and change it to the ideal temperature when you’re there! If you don’t get the fuck out of here with that bullshit talk, you fucking moron.
You practically have to take a class to operate this unit. This is a lousy system, too complex and the people that are suppose to explain the instructions in the instructional videos speak fast and I can tell they do not posses word communication skills. In other words a lousy unit and confusing.
