You are referring to the "Hannibal Directive", in which IDF are permitted to shoot their own civilians to prevent torture or capture. Thing was though... that the hamas fighters were surrounded and outnumbered. There was no way they could have kept them hostage. The IDF chose to open fire anyways to kill the innocent civilians, so the numbers would stack up. This is confirmed by an Israeli who was a part of the scene. @@shyff2188
