Thanks for including my unpopular opinion. And for expanding on it. Is still think that even though Netero was extremely strong, in his old age he wasn't the strongest hunter anymore. One of the younger hunters had surpassed him. Your probably right and human would be much more correct. But who's to say there's not someone extremely powerful who's a hunter that we just don't know about yet. Thanks again and for the awesome content
The election arc felt moreso like an Epilogue for the Chimera Ant arc. I never found it as a drag. Instead, it felt like a nice back cover for the amazing story preceeding it.
I wasnt too hot about it when i first watched it, but now its my third favorite Arc. Pariston grew on me, but more so the whole emotional conclusion with Killuas Story felt just so good and meaty. And of course more Illumi and Hisoka, Ging appears and the tease of the Dark Continent. Short but great Arc.
It was a drag don't lie. Chimera ant was the perfect ending. The election arc was just a complete waste of time and no I'm not reading the manga. I tried so hard to continue but it became worse and worse.
It was boring and the introduction of those new characters without such a slight reference made me think a lot. They should have gradually introduced characters it’s like - 6 episodes pass discussing the theme of the anime and the main character drops in 7th episode. But they did a very good job at trying not a lot of anime do that. There was no demographic or government situation after the third great ninja war in Naruto. Agreed there was something but seemed way to unimportant which made it dumb. Again, I love HxH and how they included government and other criteria while maintaining the theme. FMAB did a wonderful job but can’t complement since it basically falls into the them. In conclusion, even if it’s boring and too much to know it makes it cool and the fact that I feel like I know only 5% of the HxH world is laughable. Good job to the HxH team for trying and making this wonderful anime.
I love the troupe the way they are!!! Its refreshing when the villains are not always chasing the MC. Too me it shrinks the world. . . The troupe have their own sht too doo and thats alright!!!
Fr people think the Akatsuki is better, which is understandable but they can't admit their downfall was most definitely their teamwork. They set out in teams of 2 and one by one they all got beat. Hidan ~ Outsmarted and Outplayed Kakuzu - Main Character Jutsu Sasori ~ Tried to solo a powerhouse and a puppet master Deidara ~ Killed himself trying to outwit Sasuke Pain ~ Main character Jutsu Konan ~ Literally killed by an Akatuski member Kisame ~ Literally died for ultimately nothing Itachi ~ Died fighting his brother. Obito ~ ._. Don't get me started Madara ~ Lmao. No comment no just NO! They all in one way or another got beat in a 1v1 or a 2v1. These are supposed to be some of the most dangerous foes in the world and yet they (dare I say) easily got clapped if they weren't Madara/Obito/Pain. They literally almost ALWAYS walked off from fighting an Akatuski member with not so much as a scratch. Even Pain... he literally just reversed everything he did to everyone besides The GOAT Jiraya.
He wasn't the strongest, he said he wasn't the strongest. His goal was to fight someone he couldn't beat so he could go all out. He was doing the job, but wanted to win even though he was pretty sure there was no way to completely close the gap. He just wanted to get as close as he could, have a good fight, then use the rose to end the fight with 0 civilian causalities.
I agree and I like this idea a lot. To expand on it, maybe he purposely miss assigned that mission to himself so that he could finally get his dream fight. I’m sure there was at least 1 other Hunter who may have been better suited for that fight, especially since Meruem could’ve been brought down with a good Nen strategy.
@@robbcarloss This is stated by Morel and himself. Only the argument he uses on Morel is that they want to avoid a political crisis, but we know from Netero's perspective that was not it. He just wanted to meet Meruem, most likely because he was so different from what Netero encountered on the DC all those years ago, and have a fight for his life.
Video maker = idiot. Netero says he's half as strong as him in his prime, meaning characters like ging or pariston are actually stronger than netero. The ONLY thing netero has going for him is his hatsu, and ONLY because of how fast it is.
I really appreciate how the arcs dont always have a clear beginning, middle and end because that's how life is sometimes. Things just start and stop at random sometimes.
man i havent seen smoother transitions through arcs in any anime.For people like me at least.I dont enjoy fillers and episodes that are slow or nothing happens.In HxH every frame of the series is meaningful,it doesnt waste any time or dragging.Magnificent.And even through fast paced events and action manages to give depth to the characters personalities and their bonds altogether.I remember watching bleach getting to know the espadas for like 20 episodes and all they did was like "Woah we gonna finish you" "No we are gonna finish you" What a pathetic display
@@j.martinez8767 Its my third favorite Arc and the "stakes" are pretty high, Gons life? Who leads the HA after Neteros death? Who controls Alluka? The end of Killuas Arc. I think the stakes of others Arc are way lower and overall not as enjoyable or emotional as the Election Arc.
Controversial Opinion, Gon is a great shonin protagonist solely due to the fact he acts his age. He is a character with great mystery and emotional depth, not only that but his entire family line seems to be shrouded in this hidden potential. The Freeks naturally befriending Zoldyck's is also fascinating as if we also keep Killua then Gon is surely to return. I'd love to see a point either midway through or post Dark Continent where Killua and Gon reunite. Gon being cold and Killua being more humane.

imo, everything that happened with him during the ant arc is just so interesting and to have him leave the series and not show the effects of what happened on his character (and the consequences of having to regain his nen abilities) would be a waste
I think "the phantom troupe have overstayed their welcome" and "the phantom troupe are underutilized" are kind of the same opinion, just from different angles, the phantom troupe keep popping up with short appearances that don't end up doing a whole lot in terms of plot development, kind of just reminding us that they exist, and that if they're going to show up they should show up proper and really do something for the plot
I agree, and i like the idea of phantom troube being kinda a "phantom". That somehow they are there in important moments. Also, they are never altogether which pass the sensation some of their members are behind some other offscreened important shit
yeah like it kind of felt like a bit of padding to show the viewer where they were at so when they eventually return it doesn’t feel like they’ve been gone for a long time
I mean you don't have to follow established rules but basically what they are is chekhov's gun. If you show them and they don't contribute to the story much, it has a chance of being unfulfilling.
On the last Phantom Troupe idea (then being overused) I think it’s an issue of appearance with no presence. People have waited so long for them to do something, anything, that at this point you start to wonder why they are even here. Couple that with their not great showings and the fact that Hisoka took down two of them and it quickly feels like they can’t stack against the monsters of the current world.
Because they were never supposed to be. They are specialized thief’s and optimized to fight other humans not monsters. It’s also stated by chrolo that the two members hisoka killed weren’t fighter, but supporter specialist in information gain. You can see that when one off them didn’t even join the ant extermination and the other one had to use his trumpcard vs a normal ant.
@@Colaschnittchen agreed but that’s largely not how the fan base sees them. I also blame that on the distinct lack of active steps they take. They spent most of York New investigating who killed Uvogin, all of the Chimaera Ant Arc playing pear control and then from there Hisoka vs Chrollo. They haven’t chosen their battles and when you look at the work they do it’d be easy to forget they are thieves at all because they’ve spent all the series reacting to things and not doing their job.
@@tanaka173 Uvogin being killed was a completely unexpected turn of events for them in a time which they were at “war” with the mafia over stolen auction merchandise. A bodyguard FOR the mafia (Kurapika) happened to be the one who did it. You could argue they definitely made an enemy of Kurapika by putting the scarlet eyes on the market, and coincidentally again by intending to rob an auction merchandise which included a pair of scarlet eyes. Kurapika wasn’t expecting them there iirc. And they’re aboard the black whale to steal from the kakin empire. They’ve definitely made it clear what their purpose as a group is. A band of societal rejects from meteor city with a vendetta against the world now taking whatever they want. We just haven’t really seen that much of them in the latest arc

I get what that dude was saying about the Troupe being around too long. In Yorknew they had a clear and strong narrative purpose which was tied in with Kurapika's arc. Afterwards once Kurapika's arc is resolved, half the reason for the Troupe's presence in the story is gone. On Greed Island, they anchored themselves to this Abengane character, one of the most forgettable in the series. There was fun banter between them and Hisoka, but they are effectively background characters in this arc. Think about how cool it would have been instead if they needed a particular rare item that could exorcise Chrollo, putting them on the path to conflict with Gon who needed all 100 cards to win, and Hisoka who wants to fight Chrollo but doesn't want Gon to die. In the Chimera Ant Arc, it was basically just fan service. It's not like Togashi showed us what happened to all the other captains who went off on their own to create their own kingdoms. I also get wanting to see more of them. Their presence may have been narratively irrelevant after Yorknew, but I still appreciate every second they're on screen. They are super interesting characters and I would watch them watch paint dry if that's what Togashi decided to give us.
I think another reason they were included in the Greed Island Arc though was to introduce Kalluto and then it's to help expand the fact that although Kalluto was trained in the assassination ways, he's still not as strong as the other phantom troupe members. It backs up the previous claim of the Zeno and Silva stating that even they would have difficulties facing the troupe. It slowly builds upon both groups while also adding onto that the troupe does things in their own interest regardless of the main characters or not. They are independent and not entirely chained to the MCs (I hope you like that pun).
@@narutoash1 Just seeing the troupe members doing their own thing while not disregarding the main goal of regrouping with Chrollo was so fun and made them so much more vivid as characters, it strikes me as quite sad that people dont appreciate those moments of organic interactions between the troupe members and between the troupe and the wonderful world that Togashi created.
@@SparkZ009 i agree too. Sometimes I feel people always think that it has to add something to the plot all the time when really he is just showing that stuff does happen outside of the story. Whether it is directly/indirectly/not at all related to the plot, it shows each character has things going on for them. Anyway, the story isn't even over so you never know what relevance they play in future arcs. Also, don't forget Kurupika has a nen ability made for them specifically so i doubt Togashi would waste that

I loved the wordiness of the Succession arc. When you know a hiatus is coming, you learn to appreciate all that word vomit. Might be the last you see for a while.
I actually hate that arc. I have a hard time keeping my attention because the characters, except Theta, are really uninteresting and I am fairly certain that all tht convoluted crap will amount to nothing.
Netero wasn't the strongest hunter at the time of the Chimera Ant arc, he admitted that in his advanced age he had weakened. Given the nature of nen his ability was not the best to fight the king either, it was all about raw power, you need a manipulation user or something that doesn't just rely on raw power. Look at the situation with Uvo, they actually said he was most valnerauable to a manipulation or conjuration user and Kurapika proved it by beating him with abilities and not just raw power. I completely believe that the Zodiacs could have taken on Meruem.
Well, we got many char that should be stronger than Netero or better nen user. Maha, Zigg, Don, Ging, Beyond Netero, probably Pariston, some of the newest arc members, i don't remember their names, and probably half of the Zodiacs. I don't think everyone is that strong, because of Hisokas analysis. (well it could've been only unfathomable)

Also the commenter was just saying the Netereo wasn’t the strongest hunter not that he wasn’t the hunter most suited to take on Meruem. Even if the zodiacs have abilities that work better against Meruem then that doesn’t make them more powerful
I don't think Gons dark arc is over yet. He could get some flashbacks of his transformation and brutal murder of Pitou and his general inner struggle in the Chimera ant arc so the restoration of his former naive and innocent self could be less permanent than it was portrayed as. I also find it quite likely that there will be some sort of hidden price revealed later for his healing like maybe the entity behind Nanika on the dark continent demanding some sort of price for all that wish fullfillment or running rampant in some way.
That post about pitou shook me. The duality between gon and the ant king was kind of ran parallel to the evolvement between pitou and kite. Kite beginning the experienced hunter thrust into nurturing gings son as well as the insurmountable threat arriving followed by an acceptance of their coming death. Pitou was given a sort of crash dive into her mentality once gon shows up to see her healing komugi where as kite is shown to evoke as the group fights thru waves of soldier ants. What a great point to pull out of this series!
I would like to see the interaction between Kurapika, Spiders, Hisoka and 4th Prince and I would like a specific interaction between Chrollo and Pariston. This has SO MUCH POTENTIAL TO BE GREAT it is unbelievable. I would like to see how Gon and Killuah would play in the middle of the dark continent arc, will they appear somewhere else, will they be shown to have character developments? I hope so. Togashi FEED US GREATNESS!!!
There is one thing that really bugged me in HxH... when Killua and Gon first started learning nen, Killua was portrayed not knowing what nen was in the slightest, but when came the chimera ant arc during the palace assault he recognized his grandfather technique which would mean that he would need to know about nen beforehand, and when he was revealing Illumi needle humans ability for him to know all of that he would need to understand nen much before his own learning. This is just a little buzz in my ear, nothing really big, but it is there, and as far as I can see it is a continuity error. If someone knows something that invalidates my thinking i would like to know, thank you.
@@theraredevil3316 Well, being devil's advocate a little, in truth Killua does say something about why he seemed to ignore Alluka's situation... he said that probably was because of Illumi's needle. The why is understandable in reality, the point where Killua finally overcame that needle was a point where not only his love for Gon was an all time high (brother love for those of you with dirty minds), but his frustration with himself too and this is a little more subtle, but so was his growth as a nen user, it is no coincidence that after he tore the needle out his strength seemed to jump. Nen is a deeply psychological power, it grows and wanes with the designs of the spirit and mind, Killua in a way was meant to free himself at some point as his strength and maturity grew. It may be a stretch but in a way, the needle being on him was a plot point that strengthened the fact that he didn't know nen beforehand, as without nen he would have been under that "spell" for the rest of his life, only nen can combat nen. But then came the situation with the Dragon Dive and this has been in my mind for years. To me, at least, the explanation of the needle was acceptable concerning his lack of worry with Alluka.
Recognizing a technique could mean anything. He could have recognized it from stance alone or from injuries cause. It's also true that killua could have just innately been able to see nen and not know what it was. A lot of the stuff was written before he decided to go with nen anyways tho so theres bound to be plotholes lol.
Seriously, I mean his motivations are understandable, do whatever it takes to win the game for the life changing prize (not excusing his evil, just saying you can understand why he's doing stuff even if it's ruthless and cruel), he's a worthy challenge for the MCs to overcome, and it can even be inferred that he actually really cares about his partners. I mean he and them literally built a whole nen ability together which takes so much work, and at the end his last request wasn't getting himself healed, it was for them to heal his partner. He just happens to be in a series where all the other villains are like top 95% in all of manga lmao

Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
Phantom Troupe is the best villain writing of all time. They’re super refreshing. They feel legitimate (not surface level) and they’re a constant, ominous threat that do things their way for their own reasons. It’s not just “big bad guys chases the hero”. Togashi is in a league of his own
My favourite arcs were pre/during hunter exam, and the Chimera ant Arc prior to Kite's death. With the Hunter exam there is still a lot of mystery to the world and we get to explore it with the characters. For Chimera Ant arc, the investigation and terror caused by the chimera ants is insane and terrifying. Recently re-watched the series and was on the edge of my seat for both these arcs
Actually I too love the election arc, mostly for introduction of Pariston, the dark continent, Ging and how literally every hunter has a bone to pitch with him XD
The election arc was actually one of my favorites too. Maybe my favorite? It was a very nice change of pace after the chimera ant arc. I binge read the palace invasion and the election in one sitting

I loved the lesson on antiques gon and killua got in york neu and how they then used it to understand nen 🤣 I suppose i really love how togashi explains things which annoys a lot of my friends.
In my opinion pitou was a total tragedy. The way I've always seen it in my own eyes, I cant call the chimaera ants evil initially. When they first come to life I don't see them as evil regardless of what they do because it's like seeing a machine that can't think kill something. A machine isn't good or evil, it doesn't think. That's how I see the ants when they are first born. They do what they do and feels like they don't truly have a sense of mortality. Though each of the ants at some point seem to have a sort of awakening. the moment they come to terms or develop a sense of right and wrong. Either they decide what they've been doing is wrong and decide to change themselves or decide to keep doing it. I only consider them evil once they've had that wake up point and still decide to be like ants and do awful things. I believe pitou was right at the edge of that awakening, they had already sort of started that process. I truly believe that given a bit more time pitou would have fully committed to being a (morally) good character. It's possible pitou had already reached that point as well. Pitou definitely would have continued to serve maruem either way but he was sort of going down the same path. Had gon not killed them, I think it's definitely possible pitou would have joined the humans like the other ants.
about the phantom troupe overstaying their welcome; I personally feel like the issue is the Yorknew Arc simply didnt flesh them out anywhere near enough and that's why we are left with a desire to see more of them. Them being in both Greed Island AND the Chimera Ant arc is admittedly a bit ham-fisted as far as conventional storytelling goes, but they're also likeable characters so at the end of the day it's natural to want more.

@@jesseanguiano3304 I never said the storytelling of York New was bad, I said the Phantom Troupe was too involved with the storyline AFTER York New, as far as conventional storytelling goes and most of us are okay with that because they objectively were not fleshed out enough in their own arc.

There was no clear protagonist nor a winner well you could say it had no conclusion (I presume what you saw in the arc )Hisoka quest ,kurapika quest never ended And still are plot points You kinda start to see them as protagonists well that's the beauty of togashi's writing almost everyone can be a protagonist in Thier own way
I really liked Benelonov because he was a really creative and well put together character. Every time I tell people this they always say, "who's Benelonov?" I think he's one of the coolest conjurers, I mean he conjured jupiter so I think that's sick.
I'm the only one among my friends that actually liked the Chimera ant arch. They mostly remember Greed Island as the high point of the series and then promptly stopped reading it xD
I still hate that Uvogin, an experienced Nen user lost due to Kurapika's use of In... the cheapest trick in the book. Togashi even noticed that In was cheap and trained Gon and Killua to use it all the time.
Kortopi is an incredibly underrated character both power-wise and arc-wise. Togashi could've focussed on them more, but I am absolutely fascinated by their nen ability. People forget how useful it was for the phantom troupe to be able to conjure an *entire city* worth of buildings out of thin air, which god only knows how the hell Kortopi pulled that off considering the enormous amount of aura that would be needed to create that many constructs. Definitely one of the more versatile and shockingly useful ability users in the series.
During Hunter's Exam Hisoka "The person I want to fight most right now is you" Netero "Cool story, you may leave" (Gets casually ignored) Chimera Ant Arc Netero sees pitou resting Netero "I'll be blunt, that creature is stronger than me" Glasses guy "Stronger than you? If that's true Chairman, no one in the hunter's association would be able to take her down" Netero "It may had been a different story 50 years back but..." Yeah this is just implication of hype and language that the author chose. Feat wise, pretty sure the other comments solidified why the Royal Guard would not lose to a Hisoka. Don't let your appreciation for the character cloud your judgement. Her aura sensed by Killua was more malicious than both Illumi and the clown. In character, Hisoka would also play around as seen with Chrollo, that is just signing the death warrant twice. Took an enraged attack from adult Gon with aura of that to the King and actually grew stronger thanks to post mortem. The prior King aura could scare both Netero with training and Zeno, easily walking past them. One slice could also cut off Netero the strongest nen user arm, which could had been his head. Faster than lightning Killua, in the anime, her footsteps can't be heard while for the first time, we can hear Killua feet move. Need I remind you how op netero attack is? No way is Hisoka anywhere near the speed, strength or durability of the attack especially when Illumi was a 95 on his scale. Even Chrollo would have an extreme fight for a draw much less Hisoka. No amount of knowledge/turns ons would save him from being a Kite in the end.
Chimaera ants take over their home land, we know all throughout the back story of the troupe that they may or may not like their home-but they’ll defend it from anything. So giving them a closing arc-letting the fans knows they’re sitting at home base waiting for the return of their leader. Which is a basic survival strategy. I don’t get how that is an offender of anything. We know what chrollo is doing, we know what the troupe is doing. Perfect closure for them until they make their move later on. HxH is my all time favorite anime. Of course it has flaws, but I’ve never seen a better relationship/interactions between characters than Gon and Killua. Lastly, I’m just pumped to read that manga again. Woot.
Election art is also my favorite. If it wasn't for Meruem, Chimera arc would be my least favorite. Not really into constant battle after battle type storytelling.
I watched the 2011 anime first and read the mange a few years later. I was glued to every page of the succession war. I personally love fleshed out stories with a lot of minor details and seeing the planning and backstabbing from a lot of perspectives. Of course it becomes wordy when there are so many moving parts, but I absolutely loved every page. I've been waiting patiently for about 2-3 years now for the next chapter at this point
When he said there’s nothing I truly hate about HxH, I was like what about Cheetu? Then I thought back to his death scene and how much I laughed about it and how much comical joy it’s brought me over the years and I just had to take that one back right away and toss him among all the other good moments lol.
I honestly couldn't disagree with anything more than the "Gon should stay on whale island" Argument. this feels like a bad justification for people who want him gone. His cheerful, kind and adventurous personality would always keep him going before, and while now he must pay the price both, physically by currently being unable to use Aura and having to come to Terms with letting himself get Mentally Devoured by his Dark thoughts and Making Pitou into paste while pushing everyone away. In fact, Gin even told him that its his choice if he wants to become a Hunter with a fresh a new Goal and join his friends or stay at home. even the whole aspect of him having to catch up on schoolwork and taking his time after everything, would be excellent for Character development and growth.
I really liked pitou, and her role in the story. I felt for her when she was trying to serve the king, but I never forgot how dangerous she is. I like that she died, and it was a respectful death (took all of Gon to do it, and she even managed to take out an arm.)

@@FireFlyXP54 I’m just of the opinion that her death was good. I’m also of the opinion that Byakuya should have died in bleach, and might guy should have died after opening the 8 gates. Don Quixote properly dies at the end of his story. The Wayne parents die at the start of Batman’s story. It’s effective story telling, and not having the guts to kill a fan favorite leads to mistakes, per Byakuya, and might guy. What do these have in common. They are tragedies. What makes the hxh story interesting is the relative humanity of what we’re originally beings only seen as monsters. What would Pitou’s character do after she finds out the king is dead? (That actually might have been an interesting story come to think of it). But obviously again, the point was that she and the rest of the royal guard were fated to die. Her death is much better then the other two royal guards. More violent for sure, but more satisfying.

Nen is the best power system I have seen in anime, it just adds a lot to characters and the story itself, I think Netero was hyped due to his position and raw aura, in terms of ability it is impressive but I don't think it necessarily makes him the best
The introduction to nen is refreshing because its a more realistic explanation of power in the world, simplifying a super complicated subject for kids, or also a teacher having an imperfect understanding of the concept
I got one for you. When hisoka was at the voting for the next chairman, hisoka was giving out grades to everybody. I noticed on the anime at least, hisoka gave someone a grade of 95 but didn’t show who it was. I always wondered who hisoka was referring to. I’m sure they did that on purpose to not ruin the surprise of who the stronger hunters of the zodiac really were.
Power systems are usually presented at the start of the manga, like Nen or Stands or Haki or Flames (Katekyo Hitman Reborn, go watch it) or Pluses, Minuses, Zeros, Romantic Comedy whatever the mangaka of Medaka Box had in mind at the moment.
To answer your last point about the Troupe overstaying their welcome, I find that fascinating as well because I initially held that belief also. I thought they were just being annoying and not really doing anything worthwhile, especially with people hyping them up so much just to take so long to fight off Ant officers. However, upon rewatching HxH, I grew to like them as individual characters and not plot points, so now I am interested just to see how they handle different situations as the story goes on.
I love how the Phantom Troupe characters are written. Each has it's own personality and depth not just "owwww theyre evil, every phantom troupe member very bad". What fascinates me that not every Ryodan member's power is revealed or fully revealed like Feitan, Phinks, Illumi, Chrollo's other stored nen powers in his book and etc. Yes some showed their nen powers already but i like to think they have more to show. Also they like to do things their own way with regards following their boss' orders and not just "chasing the hero"
so avenging your mentor, who was killed by a thing that even had the audacity to play with your hopes of seeing him again and finally wanted to trick you into letting it fully heal itself and then kill you, can be classified as a tantrum? That thing deserved so much more suffering.
If you pay attention then you can notice that Togashi created all his antagonist with little to no backstory (a common troupe to gain sympathy toward antagonists) and stil managed to created great antagonists.
little late here, but I actually liked the Election arc a lot! I wasn't the biggest fan of the chimera ant arc, especially it's length, so a short 12 episode arc that was tight and focused on characters really did it for me. HxH for me is at its best when it's about the adventure or the journey, which is why Greed Island is my favorite arc.
Yorknew is my favorite HxH arc mainly because of the Phantom Troupe. They are such compelling villains unlike the ants who were just bad and powerful just because. They deserve a spinoff series tbh.
Netero was pretty specific when he stated he hasnt been the strongest in 50 years. Some people state he was being modest, but if he was, why be so specific with that number? Clearly something happened 50 years prior which made him realise he had been surpassed. And remember, this was back when Netero (according to himself) was at least 2x stronger than when he fought Meruem. We also have to consider that 50 years had passed since then so others might have surpassed him in that time as well. We also have Maha Zoldyck who is implied to have been stronger than Netero at some point, and then Gon and Killua's potential in the future. But considering the nature of the show and the fact that Meruem and the Ants arent even close to the danger level of the calamities and some other Dark Continent threats, it would make no sense for Netero and Meruem to be the pinnacle of power we will witness in the show.
I'm honestly not even that interested in the phantom troupe vs kurapika thing anymore cause I don't see kurapika losing to any of them unless he fights a bunch of members at once. His powers from the start already made him a formidable opponent against a lot of the phantom troupe, so much so that he could beat uvogin and was expected to kill off half the troupe after only having learned nen 9 months ago. Considering how much time has past and how much stronger in nen he has more than likely become in that time, it's just unbelievable that he would struggle against any of them except for chrollo and maybe feitan. It'll still be interesting to see, assuming we ever will, but if I see kurapika struggling against mfs like phinx or shizuki i'm calling bs.
My hot take is that Gentru *wasn't* the main villain of the Greed Island arc. He's presented as a major obstacle to all of the player organizations, sure. But Gon and Killua didn't join those organizations; for the majority of the arc, Gon and Killua were just training and having fun, and their goal was simply to participate in the game. Greed Island was more PvE than PvP for them - hence why the main focus was on their adaptation to this strange new place, and how they were both underprepared and overqualified for the game. Because they didn't engage with Gentru and his shenanigans until the very end, he wasn't their primary antagonist. If anything, his serial killing shenanigans were more set dressing to describe the environment than an actual obstacle - by showing the lengths that PvP players were going to in order to win, it showed the audience how the game was played amongst adults and how it differed from the playstyle of our main kids. He was still an enemy and an antagonist to them, but just because he was a boss battle that doesn't mean he was the primary antagonist. Bisky and Razor were also major obstacles with a lot of time spent on them; just because they weren't the final boss doesn't mean that they weren't antagonists. Ultimately there were three human antagonists in Bisky, Razor, and Gentru, but the primary "antagonist" was Greed Island itself. The game, its rules, and the environment it fostered amongst its player-base were what Gon and Killua were actually going up against, not any individual players. Greed Island was a "Man vs. (Man-Made) Nature" plot, and framing it as "Man vs. Man" will only dissatisfy you because you'll be engaging with the story in your head and not the story as it is.
I would say it's clear that what makes him tick was just money. Though he did care for his friends, he and his group represents the greed in Greed Island. Normally, that might be pretty boring, but in the specific context of a game like that where PvP is an intended option. IMO it becomes a lot more interesting to explore the dynamics of how it all plays out, and how communities inside the game interact.
The troupe weren't necessary on greed island they were just on a Scooby Doo chase, but were necessary for Chimera Ants to give them some back story and also show how much the ants the were impacting other parts of the world
The troupe didn’t individually outstay their welcome, however the Troupe outstayed its welcome. Give us the characters split apart from each other and develop them and I’m happy with all of them getting screen time, if that makes sense?

The "Election Arc" felt very much like a 'grounding arc'. Personally, it felt like a return to form and very much like the first season. Maybe that is good for some people and maybe it's bad. I did like it myself.
9:58 Honestly, I love Phinks, he's my favourite member of the Troupe. He wears Gucci and his signature move is to swiftly break people's necks. Badass.
