Whoever told you all of that doesnt know One Piece, the entire point of One Piece is the journey to find the One Piece, they have been doing that since the beginning, its been the same singular path the whole story but the arcs are made up of the various different islands they come across, throw in some some surprisingly very deep themes, government conspiracies, mysteriously supressed history and prophecies and it becomes an absolutely thrilling and engrossing journey, arguably one of the best ever crafted
@camillesharem

Japan certainly agrees. Just went there for vacation and One Piece dominated just about everything. Haha! It is true though; not every fan of a story can properly communicate why a story/franchise/series is so great. It was the fans from Undertale that put me off of the game for so long. Playing it for myself was what made the difference.

Idk who told you that the crew isnt going for the one piece, but we're definitely going for the one piece, baby! The whole journey was sort of this nebulous, "get to the final island" thing, but of course you start to wonder, "how come none of all these insanely strong people get the one piece?" Well, we learned about 300 episodes ago WHY finding the one piece is so hard and how to do it, and we've been inching closer ever since. We are now currently in the final saga, which is going to conclude with the discovery of the one piece!

One Piece is a masterclass at long form storytelling. No they haven't found the One Piece yet but they haven't just been dicking around for 25 years. They've filled all that time with some of the best world building and character writing ever put to page. You really should give the manga a second chance, I think you'd really love it now that you understand what you're in for.

@@camillesharem Honestly though, I'd probably recommend the manga over the anime if pacing was one of your issues. The anime is really inconsistent in how much time it wastes between scene transitions but some of those filler scenes really do a great job of fleshing out the crew's relationship with each other. For example, G-7 is an entire filler arc that I always tell One Piece fans not to skip because of just how sharp the comedy and character writing is in it. It's an extra 13 episodes but it feels genuinely important because of how it strengthens the crew's dynamic.

Your reason for not liking One Piece missed the whole point about what One Piece is really about. Yes the main premise at the beginning is a group of pirates searching for the One Piece, but as you see the story progress you will see alot of forshadowing and clues as to what the One Piece could really be and realize that this adventure is more than searching for the One Piece, they are actaully unravelling the truth behind the very world everyone is living in. A treasure much greater than the typical materialistic treasure we often assume in your typical pirate genre. The story gets better and better and the issues expand to more serious stuff like oppressiom from a tyranny, slavery, racism, war, and relatable social issues. And you chose Bleach over One Piece?... @@camillesharem got it. and, just a suggestion regarding the filler which everyone will prolly tell you to do too, don't skip the G8 filler. i really don't call it a filler bcs it did a lot for the characters but since everyone calls anime original scenes as fillers, there you go. also, this has become a rule of thumb in one piece, but if by the end of Arlong Park (the same as the one in the live action) and you still don't like it, then maybe one piece isn't really for you. however, since you already know the major story beats until Arlong Park and you're willing to really give it a try, you might want to extend the time you'll invest in one piece up to the end of Alabasta Saga. if you still don't like it, then, yeah, One Piece is prolly not for you. and that's alright, i believe bcs we all have different preferences. i feel like those are story points in one piece that will show you what it is and what it will be so you can decide better if you're really onboard this adventure. forgive me for the long arse reply. i believe that's everything you must know before you dive it. should you decide to make another video on one piece, i'll prolly see you there then. haha. have a good day! ✨

If the story couldn't hook me, then Oda's work and I passed like ships in the night. I went back several times, and it never clicked. Then the fans for years could never give me a good explanation as to why I should read or watch the anime. There's a lot of good stories out there! And since One Piece is so long, you want it to be worth the investment of time. It's like asking someone if going to the Grand Canyon is worth the visit and they can only tell you about the amazing Navajo bread on the North Rim (which is extremely tasty by the way!). As opposed to Bleach which hooked me instantly, One Piece did not, and without good guides or boosters for the series, it didn't come as worth the read or watch. And you'll be shocked how many people are in that same boat! For many, the Netflix adaptation has them reconsidering and giving the series a try. And it's become even more fascinating the abuses that One Piece fans have then been heaping on the newcomers, as if they have to pay their dues. At the end of the day, it's a credit to the story itself that I am going back to One Piece and not writing it off yet again. It hasn't been a humorous adventure so much as a murky wadding through fan reactions and personal experiences. It was the same way when I started getting into game of Thrones and Undertale, so this isn't anything new to me.

The real draw of One Piece? IMO it is an absolute MasterClass in world building. Few can match it and none can beat it. The world itself is the most important character in the series, and I love that the Live Action clearly developed the world well. They spent a ton of money on the set design because the world itself needs to be alive to capture the essence of OP. Oda develops characters very well, and they’re viewed through the lens of the world as a whole. This world is ever-changing, and major events occur with and without the Straw Hats’ influence. The global political landscape and major players shift, and it can even cause allies and enemies to change from arc to arc. It’s written beautifully. If you have a few minutes, there’s a short RU-vid video about the Amazing World of One Piece, and I highly advise checking it out.

When you get deep enough into the story of One Piece, you start to realize how little time and effort Oda actually wastes in his writing. Everything is a great adventure while you're reading it, but his setup and payoff skills are top notch. Yes, the beginning isnt as concise as the rest of it because he wrote it more like typical jump manga at the time, plus I think storytelling as a culture has gotten much more insistent on instant gratification since then. I can promise you, his style has gotten so concise in the last several years that it's frankly kind of scary, lol. I'll say give it another go, and let it cook. No way you'll be disappointed. At the very least there are some impressive things to observe from a writing standpoint.

I watched Naruto when I was 17, 10 years ago and thought one of those others would "fill the void" Naruto left behind but I just couldn't get into any of them so I just watched other ones that were less popular etc. But thanks to this show I gave it a shot again where I left off (coincidentally) right where the Netflix show S1 concluded. And now I binge watched the whole anime in a month and a half lol. I did not come here to hate on bleach. I like bleach. But it’s interesting that you enjoyed that but not one piece. Contrary to what you assumed from some fans that suck at explaining it… One piece is far more complex, emotionally hitting and unpredictable than bleach! One piece does things with its story later that you don’t see in other stories. For example it goes a couple hundred chapters and episodes establishing a predictable but entertaining pattern without major losses everyone always lives and triumphs… this conditions you to think “oh this is a shonen show … blah blah blah the good guys always win”… then suddenly all of this is subverted in many ways! secret political conflicts where the bad guys always win, intriguing mysteries layered all over and the hidden lore is so engaging , we see complete losses with deaths of protagonists and complete utter failures where our crew is split up and tested on a heroes journey across the world… it somehow all comes together in very unpredictable ways. Currently I am caught up with the final saga is releasing weekly and it’s mind blowing! I can never predict the next chapter and some of most heartfelt, inspiring and sad things keep happenings… the stakes are the highest they have been in the whole series. It’s not a pointless show… it keeps surprising and changing over time… the one piece is going to be some kind of reality bending climax that was thematically tied to the point of the entire journey and worth the 27 year wait! I won’t spoil what happens but the mystery of what the one piece is is now way more complicated and unpredictable… the only thing I can say is it’s philosophical connected with the meaning of all existence in the story and what Oda is saying about our world as well. This is why the fans are so rabid and refuse to explain it. It’s hard to explain what it evolves into. The interesting thing from a story point of view is it layers all of this in this while still being a battle shonen pirate show? It’s hard to describe. But I recommend you not miss out on the international phenomenom… the one piece will be revealed in about 2-3 years and it will all end. Get caught up it’s worth it! I am a 40 year old father of 2 and I have not found many stories out there that are better.,

Thank you for the explanation! I must admit, don't just a story or franchise by its fans! I have had to learn that with Undertale (which was fantastic!) and Game of Thrones (overhyped and pales before Berserk and LOTR), where the fans gave off the wrong impressions. What I've come to realize in retrospect was that I never connected with the characters. But the Netflix adaptation really helped me there and that got me sucked into the story. It's easier to go on a long journey, like reading the Wheel of Time or Stormlight Archive, when you have characters you can really get behind.

If you watch the anime don’t go dub! the English dub makes Luffy and most villains annoying instead of endearing in my opinion. They had a great Japanese voice cast. Also the anime does not have alot of filler episodes like bleach or Naruto … instead it has its times with drawn out pacing like replaying flashbacks more than the manga. This was their strategy to never catch up with the author. Now that I think about it bleach did the same thing. Honestly I think One Piece isn't a show that anyone can get forced or pressured into watching. As many other comments have already said, its a slow story about the journey, and if you aren't already prepared from the get-go to start building investment for a long term adventure, then it will definitely be hard to enjoy. Going into the show expecting different plot developments that you might find in other anime will just leave you in wait for a long time, so it definitely wont be fun. But yeah, I don't blame you, actually- especially about the fans. Fans from all animes lately have been increasingly toxic, comparing shows based off of the different powers of the main characters?? lmao? comparing the animation when they themselves don't even know how to animate- It's a war out there. Anyways yes, One Piece is a show for long term, slow enjoyment, just by looking forward to seeing how characters grow, and what they will discover in the world. The actual one piece itself? naw, I watch because I love the crew, seeing them just hanging out is enough for me, and thats why the videos of the cast from the live action just doing silly stuff were so popular- because they have such an amazing dynamic. Now, turn all of that around, check out the miniseries of ten videos I did on Rings of Power, and you'll be able to understand my disbelief that anyone could enjoy that show! The big difference between One Piece and Rings of Power is at the heart of it, One Piece does have good, engaging characters and ROP has NONE.

Those can turn people away, and that's understandable. No matter how good the narrative, world building, character development, and plot is, they won't enjoy it because of all the negatives. I happen to love it. Everyone weighs the pros and cons differently. I just didn't understand your criticism. If you just didn't vibe it, that's cool. I won't say you should watch it. Ok, One piece is the story to find One piece greatest treasure of humanity. So Its about a person who zen like attitude and charm like baby with his extraordinary friends went out to change the world and bring dawn to it. In the start he doesn't want to be a hero but he can't stop bettering the world so its his and his friends journey to save the whole world and understand they need to take responsibility. You can't save someone you have no connection to or don't know. So they are making friends and connection to the whole world. One piece world has been crying and praying for freedom for 8 centuries to be free and Luffy and his extraordinary friends are the ones to save them all. So what is One piece itself, there are many theories but none of them say its 'Gold' or only Gold. Its history, its information, its means to change the whole world and bring dawn to the biggest fictional world in fiction. So no you can't do that in few 100 chapters. Luffy & his friends needs to be strong enough to bring down the strongest powers in the universe to save the universe and also understands the pains of the universe.

The real One Piece is the friends we made along the way. I wouldn't expect a good story to rush things or cram 1,000 chapters into 10. If I did, I would never have read the Wheel of Time of the Stormlight Archive. Hahaha! My problem was that I didn't connect with the characters before this. This adaptation helped me to do that and it changed my perspective on the overall story.

That's... funny considering Bleach was far more directionless than One Piece. Bleach was more of a Dragon Ball format, that the "goal" was only defined within a certain arc and overarching story was irrelevant. Vague on set theme and goal for the whole, but rather, fragmented into each storyline. Whereas One Piece has been consistent throughout and while progression is slow, it's actually there. There are series of long term plot progression that actually has had tangible, meaningful advancements. Each adventure literally plots them further on the map, and the entire world events that doesn't even necessary involve the Straw Hats progress the plot forward. So for you to go "what's the point if they aren't getting to the One Piece" while simultaneously being fan of Bleach is very ironic lol.

Undertale and Game of Thrones are two examples that spring most readily to my mind where fans either couldn't or wouldn't slow down and be more respectful or considerate when sharing their likes. It takes practice. I am interested in seeing how the rest of the story goes. A few people have reached out here in the comments to give me some wonderful recommendations and insights that I want to follow up on. :) The biggest takeaway from this is be considerate when sharing your passions. I love Bleach, but the Bleach fanbase doesn't love me. Hahaha! The same with RWBY. And in the past I was also overwhelming with my love for stuff like LOTR and Beyonders. So, I understand the comments. Even if many of them don't win me over to the fans... That's the strength of a good story, when it pulls you in despite its followers. Haha!

To me one piece has the same story telling style as lord of the rings. Its a long story so they have time to take things slow and build. Yes the ultimate goal of destroying the ring is there but its more about the adventures along the way and exploring the world and characters. Also nobody knows where the one piece is so u cant just go there. this gives the crew actual reason to explore places and look, but they are getting close. Its a little odd to me that someone who wants to be a writer is so focused on the end instead of the actual story.
@camillesharem
@camillesharem Год назад
That is an interesting comparison. I think we buy too much into the complain that LOTR is a slow read and story, but really 3 pages into LOTR and you are already getting swept away into a complex world with colorful characters and the quest for the Ring is already underway in the second chapter. Tolkien just communicates an overwhelming amount of information with so few words! Not even Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, or George R. R. Martin have ever been able to replicate his style! With One Piece, from what I have seen so far, I guess it fits that because the quest for the One Piece is underway so soon. Once I've gone through the story I'll be able to tell for myself how it all comes together. It is slightly amusing to me that the more I read in the comments, the more I realize that many people are sounding just like my old college friends and I have seen the same three talking points from Nux Taku parroted again and again. Hahaha! So it really is a credit to the story itself that the STORY is what makes me want to continue, rather than the majority of the fans.

@camillesharem
@camillesharem Год назад
Granted, that conversation was a while back. I guess I didn't give a timeline for when I got back into anime. That would be back around 2011, so there was already plenty of One Piece out there and I wanted to know if it was worth my investment of time while I was double-majoring AND the main characters had not jived with me. That was just the first in a slew of conversations where One Piece fans all said roughly the same thing, which conveyed the idea to me that the story just meandered in Shounen tropes rather than progress the story. So, it was hard to muster the energy to get invested and it just didn't click over the years until I finally watched the Netflix adaptation.
@pongpong123able4
@pongpong123able4 Год назад
@@camillesharem oh they didn't meander. All those twenty years or so of One Piece in existence wasn't wasted on unconnected pieces of arc (adventure of the season) that doesn't lead anywhere and just goes on and on forever. Non-One Piece fans might get confused on how this manga manages to get so long without ever reaching the final goal that luffy and crew set out to do, which is to find the famous one piece treasure. So there is a tendency to think that Oda just employed an episodic storyline, meaning there is no cohesive and chronological plotline, he just writes a series of independent arcs that don't add up together or do little to propel the overall plot of the manga (the heroes just sail from one island to the next, each one with its own villain without any end in sight). On the contrary, One piece actually employs a strictly progressive style of storytelling. Although it is divided into many episodes, there is a chronological order to each arc and while the crew is doing adventure in one island, the rest of the One Piece world moves along in parallel storylines. So for instance, (spoiler alert) we know that when the strawhats were in the sabaody archipelago and trying to rescue a friend from slavery, the Marines were busy preparing to execute Luffy's brother in their headquarters. On the other side of the world, the Whitebeard pirates were preparing to go to war with the Marines while Shanks was trying his best to conciliate between the two parties. So this is a real interconnected world. The story does not revolve solely around the strawhats' "adventure of the season." There are larger-than-life forces here, bigger than the strawhats, that do their own thing as the timeline goes on regardless of what the strawhats do. In fact, there is one famous arc where the strawhats were not the main protagonists at all. They were set aside for a while in the story while side characters ran the show. What makes the story exciting is that we will witness how the strawhats assert themselves into the One Piece universe and make the world notice their presence. Oda built a world here. If there is a single thing that this manga did best, it is world-building. Luffy and crew will take us to see this world and unravel its mysteries and history. Up to now, the readers still don't know what the one piece is. But we are not in a hurry to know because after what we have learned about the world, we understand that the strawhats might not yet be ready to find the one piece or do something about it once they find it. There are still many unresolved plotpoints and conflicts that we want to see being addressed first before we get to the one piece. And honestly, we still don't want to see the end yet. We have enjoyed the ride on the strawhats ship so much as luffy and crew took us with them to learn about the world. In this journey, we have witnessed the strawhats' growth from being a rag tag group of pirates into a serious force that even the large players in the one piece universe will reckon with. I started watching the dubbed anime in high school in the early 2000s. It was so slow so i began reading the manga in 2007 after i graduated in college. And now in 2023, I'm with my son, both of us watching the anime updates week by week 😂. One piece has been a life experience for me

1:50 - 2:50 very inaccurate my friend. Not want to spoil but if you really want to know what the straw hats are up to right now, they are closer to One Piece than they ever had. And it's not just about exploring the grand line, it's not a simple journey, it's about that but it's also about disrupting the world order in a way. The straw hats crew have disrupted the world order and they have come real far. We are starting to get all answers now and it's hype. So yeah, you couldn’t have been more wrong about One Piece and whoever told you that is clearly not a fan and doesn't understand One Piece. And by the way, only one half of the equator is known as the grand line, the other half is called... And if you think you were proven wrong after watching the live action, boy you are so wrong about the anime as well cause you haven't seen nothing yet 5:10 what do you mean? Luffy's back story is in episode 4 of the anime. Have you just seen first couple episodes of the anime and made up your mind?
