Netgear GS308E 8 Port Managed Switch Product Review
The Netgear GS308E is a great swtich for your home or small business network as it gives you some of the good the basic features in a managed switch. Some of the things we liked about the Netgear GS308E is that you can log into the web interface and see the status of the ports, such as are the ports connected at 100/1000 link status, are the connecting at Half or Full Duplex, and are their any CRC errors (collisions) on the network. As well you are able to setup different VLAN's, essentially dividing the switch into different sections or networks. Following are some the pro's and con's we found in using this switch.

Nice overview, but too bad you didn't really show the VLAN options (which is the most important part in a managed switch, in my opinion)

Thanks for the video and the help. For those who plug everything and are not able to reach the IP adress webpage to configure, make sure that you first plug in the ethernet cable from the ISP first, then power on the switch. This reset the provided IP adress and I was able to reach the page.

Thanks for the GUI walkthrough! Do you know if it can do VLAN trunking/tag several VLANs on one port? I would like to send several VLANs to my esxi host.

I've never tried it. It only does simple VLAN's.

Networking 101 : "Port Mirroring" is NOT Link Aggregation (LACP) aka binding/combining ports for additional bandwidth and port link failure protection via redundancy. Port Mirroring is typically used for port monitoring as its "mirrors" the port packets to another port for traffic analysis.

I went through the instructons out of the box. Now when I have to login to my switch online, the default IP adress is not working. I dont know if I should be connected to the network cable from the switch or the WIFI network that I always have.

Normally the switch will get an IP from the DHCP server. you will have to check your router to see the IP it received or do a scan on your network with a portscanner such as nmap

I noticed the port speed is only 10M Full & 10Half Duplex, 100 Full & 100Half Duplex. NO 1000M Full and 1000M Half Duplex...so for $35 bucks, the network running 1Gbps is limited...I don't think it's capable of 1Gbs Full and Half Duplex, 2000M/1000M...so when I compare more expensive Dlink or Netgear models, IEEE 802.3ab 1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet...we should be seeing Up to 1 Gbps of Dedicated Bandwidth per Port and up to 2 Gbps Bandwidth in Full-Duplex Mode...you can test it on your network, copy a large size file from 1 port to another, you will see. This is the downside of this falsified 1gbs Ethernet switch...If you have a 1Gbps ISP/Fibre line, this is not the switch for you. It's Not Cat 6 Dependent either, if you look at your cables, it's probably Cat5E...It hardware enabled...so NetGear is falsified their switch...the link speed shows 1000M but port speed is only 10/100Base -T....very tricky.

Quick question and not sure if you can assist. I currently have an Archer 2800 wifi router and have (as usual) run out of ports. I purchased one of these little routers and was going to replace the current **Internet > Archer 2800 > Wifi** connection and add the new router thus **Internet > router > other ports and archer 2800 > wifi** I am guessing that I will have to 're-number' the IP addresses on the Archer2800 or do you think it will sort itself out and return to 192.168.*.*? I hope the question made sense?

I would just by a switch and uplink it to the router. That will give you extra ports.

Once I installed this one and connect to my laptop some sites are not accessible, such as amazon. But those sites are accessibloe when i connect through Modem router wifi. Is there are any setting to change?
