Thank you Ivan! I love your Quad Cortex videos. It convinced me to buy one this weekend. So many great points in this video too - people complain about the features now, but you're right - what company didn't have problems in the past 2 years? I'm coming from a Line6 helix which I love, but I'm blown away by all the sounds I've been hearing from the quad cortex. Especially from you! Thanks for everything

Hello Gordon. Did you buy the Quad Cortex? How was your experience with it in comparison with Line6 Helix? I am bassist and thinking buy one.

@@rosekizin7654 Hey! Yes I have the quad cortex now. I honestly loved my Helix, I was very happy with the tone I dialed in. For me, for bass, I think I've heard that the helix is actually better for bass. But I'm sure a fan of the cortex for bass. I'm pretty simple so once I dial in a sound I'm good, but I find that the cortex is just easier to carry around and see on stage too. But I don't really think there's a huge difference between the two, both are pretty friggin' amazing!

Nice video man, nice to hear someone using QC for something other than Metal. I have a QC now a few months and i think its great but i paid €2500. Bought it from a well known UK dealer cause they were the only shop to have it in stock, I am in Ireland so the shipping, taxes, exchange made it very expensive. Not used it live yet but im looking forward to it. I plan to put 2 electric guitar, 1 acoustic guitar and bass through it. Yet to be tested, but thats the plan.

Hi, Ivan! I have always been more of an “old school” player. I went direct into amplifiers for years. I finally invested in a high quality pedalboard. I have had this setup for a long time. I have been eyeing the Quad Cortex for a while as I will be doing multiple bands in my new home. I think your video here convinced me to get one. Thank you!
@IvanBassist
@IvanBassist Год назад
I was pretty sure that I was not gonna like the QC, because I also have a pretty solid analog pedalboard with an outstanding DI (Noble). However, using the QC has really streamlined my workflow and has made my life easier when playing live

It's not cheap but when you add up what it does, the effect box's,amps,cab sims & ir's etc...& you can add many others...if your a bass player that uses more than a couple of pedals or cannot use your own amp & cab it's worth it's price if your happy with everything it does...a good one stop piece of equipment that is easier than a big pedal board, probably cheaper than buying many box's/pedals linked together with cables on a big pedal board & the hassles that go with it.....👍
@IvanBassist
@IvanBassist 2 года назад
Indeed. Just my cab and amp add up to almost 2k 😅 If you start adding pedals, cables, power supplies, etc you definitely surpass the cost of a QC

I appreciate the review, very well done. When you ask "is it worth" the money, let me tell you, I just added all of the things I want to complete my pedalboard to a sweetwater shopping cart, and it was well over $2,000, and still far from "top end." I think if you consider the value that a modeler provides, it seems apples to apples to be worth it as well.

I remember I met up with some friends to jam with and I made a comment on how my pedal board cost more than my bass (Fender American P). They were like really? They all had expensive guitars, Gibson Les Pauls and American Fenders. They looked at their pedal boards and said, yeah you're right, I never though about it. I think when you add up all the capabilities, quality and ease of you and portability, it's actually cheap. I recently picked up an electric guitar, I just use my HX Stomp, because a lot of my pedals are bass specific (I know I can still probably use them). But if you play both instruments, it's even cheaper.

if I want to have QC instead Mesa, Ampeq, GK amp is a good choice, I more play with clean,and little crunch sound. I will use it as my preamp, and power amp will go from normal head. It is a good choice. I don't thinking about price, this is my hobby ;)

Hey I’m late to this but you mentioned the capture feature. Would it be possible to capture the Nobel preamp pedal? That would be insane value if it sounded even close to the Nobel sound.

Hi Ivan! I feel like the HX Stomp has already waaay more options and possibilities that I really need as a bass player! The QC would only make it worse for me :D Btw. saw a lot of movement on stage from you (in the video): How's the leg?

The knee is getting better, but it’s not where I hoped it would be. I’ve started playing with a knee sleeve the last couple of shows

If neural dsp made a smaller unit like a hx stomp style I would buy it. Other than that I’ll stick with the hx stomp. Idk about you but I get anxiety with way to many options and foot switches. I also use a ampeg svt block and do similar things you do with it. For example super clean to more rocking svt to adding a b7k all using three snap shots. If I needed more I would add it but these days less Is more.
@IvanBassist

Maybe neural will release that at some point 😁

Are you using the Noble preamp DI with the QC, or simply the QC on its own when you gig?
@IvanBassist
@IvanBassist 2 года назад
On its own. I only took the Noble with me for one show in Hamburg, where I live, because I wanted to test how both worked together live. Other than that one time, i’ve been just using the QC :)

With the recent updates with the helix for bass players, I don’t see for now the reason to upgrade to this. Especially the helix has now the noble inside. If I’m gonna upgrade to the QC, it has to be a significant sound change in terms of quality. For now the helix and stomp will kill this for bass players. This is already a year old video but still the QC is still lacking compared to the Helix line.

It’s a no brainer for a Gigging bassist. Capture your heavy rig ( in my case 72 blue line ampeg and 8x10 )and get some good in ears and backbeat and you will be happier then ever. Go from a metal gig to a top 40 to country with the same unit. I’m in heaven. It’s a heavy duty unit,I have prob 200 gigs with mine and it’s never failed, survived a beer 🍺 spill from a dive bar a few times.

bought it when came out and sold it after 2 years because the didn´t add bass things. Main Amp i wanted was the Aguilar 750 and Tone Hammer. Was anounced when came out. But added not. Would these amps added now? Also didn´t added my favorite distortion pedals of all time, the alpha omega. This was made by the same company. Didn´t add it in two years. They went great and grew up through us bass players. But then, shame over them, they forgot us.

A $700 HX Stomp caters more to bass players that the QC. It’s a neat piece of gear for sure, and maybe one day it will have a more extensive list of bass amps/cabs/effects, but for now, for a live application, it’s a pass. And if I could give you my prediction, the inevitable Helix 2.0 will do more for bass players than this or Fractal ever will.
@IvanBassist
@IvanBassist 2 года назад
Maybe. Soundwise the HX doesn’t do anything for me, though.
@PondoSinatra680

@@IvanBassist Fair enough. But that’s why you also own a Noble and a Mesa WD800. You arguably could not get better tone. You also own a YYZ and an Origin SVT pedal. If you wanted more options or only want to carry one box, that’s cool. But if there is one thing you were not lacking, it’s tone. Especially in the context of a live band mix.
