The Music With Marky channel is dedicated to giving guitar students the guitar lessons they need to make good music. Each guitar lesson teaches guitar players how to play guitar in the most musical way possible. Shred guitar and guitar tricks are important, but great music is what makes all the guitar practice worth it!

I like it in that if I like it a lot I can buy it outright or if I don't just cancel after a couple months of seeing if it works in my workflow.

I haven’t played with the STL stuff yet, but it sounds to me like the STL is more mix ready and the Neural stuff needs more post processing, but to me sounds more accurate to the amplifiers that they’re modeling, like the Neural are the raw tones and the STL is more like pre-processed. Neither is necessarily better or worse, but if you wanna do you own processing, I’d go Neural.

I wasn't expecting the STL Tones to sound so good. Definitely prefer that over Neural for high gain, but Neural DSP shines with the cleans.

I much prefer the STL tones. Neural DSP sounded muddy to me especially on the rhythm parts.

Neural DSP definitely requires a bit more EQ but it’s usually not hard to get a good sound. Tone hub is pretty much mix ready sounds but aren’t as customizable as Neural. (I have both)

@@Illiyinmusictrue but a better guitar tone to start with is always much better, than eqing a "better" tone to begin with will lead to better sounding eq on-top of it

STL always makes more amp like feeling products to me, it doesn't matter if its Tonehub, Tonality, or Amphub, they are all good. Neural is definitely good too but I think they are more hype driven than STL.
@MusicWithMarky

Interesting. For me the Neural stuff has a certain quality and style that works for a specific type of music. I like the STL products on the face but I haven't been able to get the sound out of them that I want. To be fair I am mostly using a Kemper or Axe FX, so I am not tweaking and messing with the software stuff nearly as much.
@kiillabytez

Neural seems to be targeting a certain Metal demographic, but STL seem geared towards a mix ready sound than an isolated guitar tone.

After playing both myself for a couple weeks, I think I like STL. One thing that bug me with neural is I feel like I can hear the pick attack more, almost as if my mix knob wasnt turned up all the way or something sometimes.
@lorenmorgan1931
@lorenmorgan1931 Год назад
The Neural stuff in my experience has as lesser dynamic range, much like the Kemper. It causes them to have a compressed sound, and that really ruins for me.
@MusicWithMarky
@MusicWithMarky Год назад
That's fair. If you hear it that way, it makes sense.
@lorenmorgan1931
@lorenmorgan1931 Год назад
@@MusicWithMarky Yea, I couldn't do the profilers because of this. Even live concerts, I always knew when I was going to find a Kemper on the stage. Neural is of course better at this than Kemper is. TH-U RigPlayer is literally identical to the Kemper. But then comes along the new gen, Tonex, and the even more accurate NAM that have loads of dynamics, and actually feel like, and have the same pick attack of the source material. But yea, great time to be alive in regards to guitar. :) Why I did come here in the first place though, is to see if STL AmpHub offers something I dont already have in my TH-U and Amplitube 5 library, and it seems like they do offer up soem good ready to record and mix solutions, so I will do a month of service with them.. :)

2:36 the STL sounds tight and centered, the NDSP sounds super wide and separated from the mix. I'm full in on Neural (even have a quad cortex) but the STL sounded great to me too.
@MusicWithMarky
@MusicWithMarky 2 года назад
As with any of these things, you can tune it how you want in the mix. When I do the demos I try to keep it as stock settings without influencing it as much as I can. Have you tried the Rabea Neural plug in?

@@MusicWithMarky I know I'm not the guy you asked 🤣 😂 but, I have the Rebea Archetype, the Gojira Archetype and the fortin suite from neural and they certainly are fun as hell. But I just signed up for the free Amphub trial. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm hyped too as soon as I can lol. I work overnights so I'm always in limbo. I get home at 6am and sleep until around 1 to 2 pm or so. I just got home recently as a matter of fact and will be going to sleep soon so I can wake up, put the Amphub in my daw and see if I like it enough to give em $10 a month for it.

@@MusicWithMarky Yep, it's pretty awesome. Great tones right out of the box. Lots of versatility, and to me at least, the effects section is great. The delay and reverb particularly (to me) are mint. Although, I don't seem to see any compression. Plus there's like 40 Amp heads to choose from. I really love the ease of use and intuitive interface. I don't know when it was you tried Amphub last, over a year ago maybe? I'll probably use this along with Neural as well. Maybe I can even try combining them side by side and use my favorite components from each of them in my daw. Who knows, I may never leave this bedroom again lol.

I'. glad we now have something other than another Neural DSP Archetype sim that sounds the same as the previous six amp sims they've released. Just like Serum, I got so tired of presets that sound like every other preset, half of which are totally unusable. Yes, I despise Neural DSP.

Funny, I had the complete opposite experience. I was ignoring STL for some reason and bought several Neural plugs. Finally I got around to demo Will Putney's pack and was blown away. No way I can get even remotely the quality of tone from the best Neural suites that I did even from the presets of STL. In my world they really don't even compare. STL is just much more amp like, much more realistic, much easier to dial and have way less of the that high mid fizz so common to sims. I would happily record with STL, Neural not so much.
@MusicWithMarky
@MusicWithMarky 2 года назад
I find when I compare the AxeFX to the Kemper that people end up strongly on one side or the other as well. I guess it's all personal taste.
@poulwinther
@poulwinther 2 года назад
@@MusicWithMarky I think in those cases you get a strong bias because own one of the units. People who own usually like both. In this case I do have both and Neural are not bad, I was just truly impressed with STL. I still have a more vintage Plexi lead tone in Guitar Rig that nothing else has beaten so far but for the high gain stuff I vote for STL. (But honestly I am just waiting for Amp X)
@MusicWithMarky
@MusicWithMarky 2 года назад
I generally find that I can dial in any sound I really want with decent software or hardware. I think you are right about going with the stuff that you own because those are the sounds that lead you to create something and then of course you're attached to the sound cuz you created something with it. That said when I went from software over to the Axe FX the first time, I could hear such an incredible difference in the depth and dimension of the tone that I never recorded with software again (other than for time based effects) until a couple of the more recent Neural plugins.
