As a programmer, it bothers me that the chip has any sort of wireless technology built into it... If you can control it with your phone, it WILL be hackable, without a doubt. Aside from that, the privacy concerns are massive. I imagine "thought crime" will basically become a reality. If thinking about a particular topic or series of words fires off neurons in a pattern, and there were to be a breach of some sort and people's brain activity were to be logged, you could end up with a database of millions of people's thoughts. From there, it'd be very possible to basically decipher what the patterns mean, and consequently know what each person was thinking of. Considering intrusive thoughts are a thing, you'd almost certainly have leaks of celebrities' thoughts, where they'd get cancelled for some random thought that's arguably contentious.
Thing is, I’m pretty sure you’ll have to have an insane amount of knowledge to do anything with it, let’s say you get root on the device, what’s the next step? You can download all the files on a drive that’ll be basically useless, it’s not like it stores memories or something, and I’m pretty sure all critical data is in physically read only memory
Xtrendence that’s exactly what I said, you get all the data, in the proprietary NeuraLink format, then what? At least right now there’s no use for such data, and it’s not like your average hacker can cook up a library to decipher the data, this is so bleeding edge there’s no individual that can develop such a thing, you’ll need an entire team of Chinese/Russian developers in order to develop something that can read that data, and even if you read it, it’s not like it has any visual information, a spike could mean you are about to detonate a bomb in the kremlin or that you saw a meme you liked, this is not the kind of data that someone would want to steal, unless they open source the interpreter, in that case we’re fucked
@@willinton06 He's talking about brain writes though - if you can write to the brain, you can cause all sorts of crazy things. Imagine malware, wirelessly transmitted through an exploit that forces you to bank transfer all your money to a particular account. I'm going to start writing it now.

That's what I initially thought too. But when there's potential for curing my depression, anxiety and addiction, I can see myself doing this. It would seriously change my whole life. Especially if Neuralink opens up the software and hardware as open sourcee and allows 3rd parties to manufacture the neuralinks, I could see myself be more calm about the privacy implications.
As with everything, the question lies within the application itself. It can do wonders for all kind of sick people and for information technology. It's also a totalitarian regime's wet dream. Both statements can be true, and both will come to pass.
@@topgun213 that's not actually what he said. He said that every technology WILL be used for "good" or "bad". Huge difference. Plus, there are more considerations that would happen (and many we can't even predict) that will happen either you use it "for good" or "for bad". Example: Cars can be used to transport stuff or run over people. Both WILL happen, not a matter of chance. But either way they cause huge environmental problems.

Everyone has looked at "evil" AI as some sci-fi robot that is going to take over the world, when in actuality its a sociopath with one of these installed 200 years down the line, hacking into cars and shit.
What makes you so sure this is version of AI tech *won’t* be what ends humanity? At first it just helps with vision and such, but once we merge consciousness with AI, at a certain point we become obsolete

@Pikora Animation I would like to learn via BMI, without reading any text from external display or doing something what robots could do. I'd also like to teach robots so they can copy what I do, while collecting data from millions or even billions of other people and robots. Last but not the least, I want robots to learn what mistakes people do so we can learn from them and they learn to do our work without human errors (including greed and fear), thus saving people, animals and nature / planets and life as a whole from us humans, while still working with us.

@@ahmedibnadam5038 Sorry your imaginary God is not able to do anything at all. If you look at e.g. Polio. The world has struggled in milennias, while science solved it in a few decades. The last countries to cure it were muslim countries due to their religion wars. On the other hand is vision more complex, since it has to be learned via this implant. So it is not only a matter of having an implant, but also training the plastisity of the brain to "see" in the correct way. Its about connecting new paths in the brain over time.

The good side of neuralink can cure millions of people, give sight to the blind. This is a step we have to move toward to. It is good to finally see what has been worked on by these business people in all areas that affect our lives or could. It will be up to all of us to remember our sovereignty and own it. @@dynerushd7517 Well Elon said they plan to make it available to anyone who wants one, but that isn't gonna be upon initial release that's for sure. It's gonna also be very expensive at first, but as he said they aim to get it down to a couple thousand for the implant and operation.

Neauralink will help treat COUNTLESS neurological disorders, and treat long term brain trauma along with a long list of other applications .just because you lack the mental capacity to Forse the value in neauralink ,doesn't mean it's useless.
It's not since the device is marketed towards people with disabilities, e. g. paraplegics and is not yet some superhuman enabling device. It would be like a scientist/engineer creating a prosthetic arm, intended for those who lost their arms and someone questioning who doesn't have disabilities, "Would I be able to use one of these devices in the near future to lift immensely heavy objects?".

Black mirror features dystopian worlds. No. The episode is not positive in regards to such things

S1 was barely dystopian, the other episodes are a hostage situation and a commentary on consumerism
@@cali6601 the more I think about things like this, the more I think people forget how capable people are of developing. I used to dwell on past mistakes and sour memories all the time without a brain chip, and even then it was a decision I had to make myself to move on. Black mirror just shows how technology can highlight our very human flaws, instead of flaws in technology itself. I do think that although some people might get caught up remembering their best moments, people would quickly realize they're missing out on the present.
This is crazy , imagine how much money businesses would save on sick pay and productivity on people calling in with depression and anxiety. No excuses any more.

Generally, I'd consider myself as progressive but this has the potential of scaling social imbalances to a whole new level. It seems to me that before this should be available a lot of ethical discussion has to be done.
I found it ironic and funny that he is trying to sell us on the merits and benefits of the Neuralink by using Black Mirror as a reference. Not exactly the kind of selling point I would go with by reminding us of the potentials of this going wrong. LOL! But I am sure there are safeguards to be in place to prevent some of the dystopian or misuses of this to control someone like a robot or several versions later give a user horrifying nightmares causing them to have a heart attack. Hopefully anyway.
Stupid questions, price and reading memories... The real question is, can it send signals to the brain to take action. This could be revolutionary in ALL aspects.
