Correction at 5:31 - There is only one layer of the SPINAL Dura Mater. This is different in comparison to the Dura Mater in the brain which has a two layers: an outer perisoteal layer and an inner meningeal layer. Thanks Ninja Nerds!
Thank you Professor, Does that mean that in the spinal, the epidural space is only a potential space (not really there) and in the brain, epidural space is a real space?
@@vincentcyrilliansantoso9858no there really is an epidural space superficial to the dura in the spinal cord. It contains fat and vascular tissue. The layer superficial to the epidural space in the spinal cord would be the ligamentum flavum posteriorly and the posterior longitudinal ligament anteriorly to the spinal cord.
There’s only one layer of duramater in the spinal cord. The outer layer of dura in the cranium doesn’t travel into the spinal cord it’s continuous with periosteum of skull bones at the foramina. Correction at 5:31
My boyfriend stumbled across one of your videos a few months back. He's a paramedic/Fire/ future nurse and Dr. He absolutely LOVES you and how WELL you teach. As do I. YOU'RE ridiculously SMART. YOU ROCK. ZACH.
I'm wondering why I'm paying so much for school when I could be learning from you. Your videos are so much better than the dreadful lectures my current professor provides. Thank you!
Awesome vid once again, Ninja. This format where you use a familiar medical exam (lumbar puncture in this case) to explain the anatomy is awesome! Please do more like this.
The primary function of the meninges and of the cerebrospinal fluid is to protect the central nervous system. The pia mater is the meningeal envelope that firmly adheres to the surface of the brain and spinal cord.👍
love ur videos ...thankyou for this....just one thing.....the spinal dura mater does not have an outer endosteal/periosteal layer unlike the cranial dura
Good to see you back zach! I'm taking a year out of medicine this year to get another degree, but I'll be able to keep my knowledge up to scratch with your great videos!
I know this is really specific, but could you address how inflammation in the meninges would look? Lumbar punctures can cause inflammation in the meninges, so it's relevant, but it's a little arcane.
The meniges interconnect as systematised knowledge is architectonically stacked - Zach may have spent weeks or months planning how to lay out videos... like a novdlist does. Or he may be spontaneously organised, and just think in this systematic way... genius. Or he
I have a doubt. You say that the epidural space is between the 2 layers of dura mater. So, if It is "epi-dural", It means epi=Upon; It is upon dura mater and It can not be between its 2 layers. The definition that you give here, actually is in contrast with the definition of epidural space in the skull, where It Is between periosteal layer of dura mater and the bone. So I do not know why also some Books and Wikipedia and you say that definition. It does not make sense. When you speak about epidural hematoma, you see blood between the bone and dura mater in the epidural space in the skull. How can you give 2 different meanings about the location of the epidural space? I need an explanation. Thanks
Isn't the meninges of the Spinal Cord and Brain slightly different? Like I'm pretty sure that the periosteal layer of the dura mater doesnt exist in the spinal cord(I think I saw it on NCBI).
@@samiullahsyed7545 I read your definition only in one book. My books and professors say that dura does exist in spinal cord. I do not know the truth, but for my exam I am obliged to say that.
When you think of “mother”(Mater), you may also think of “protecter”; so “soft protector”, “hard protecter”, “spider-like protecter”; that’s what I imagine.- thank you for teaching us Ninja Nerds!
It depends on the book where you study at. Some say "two layers of dura in the spinal cord", others say "one layer". We have to do an autopsy, in order to discover the truth 😅
Why is this not being shown in medical school curriculums!?! Your videos are amazing and have helped me tremendously throughout the year! Can't wait to see more!
So I'm looking at the spine same way I'd be looking at our galactic core system...in that frame I'm thinking the spiders guard the inside of the lower hole, see Jewish tree of life...bc I think our bodies from wrists too ankles too neck are tributes too the galaxy so galactic embodiments with the hands feet and heads from beyond the universes CONTROLING energy flow. So same system creating stars and planets fueling your hands and feet and heads.
Epidural space is not inbetween 2 layer of duramater! It is intradural space! Epidural space is right beneath of the ligament flavum when punctured! By the way l love all of your lectures ! From south Korea
Isnt the epidural space supposed be to superficial to peroisteal layer of dura mater hence the name epidural, ie between ligamentum flavum and peroisteal layer of dura mater?
small correction ninja nerds that is epidural space is space between dura mater and vertebrae, not between two layers of dura mater and also their is no two layers of dura mater present in spinal cord
