This is incredibly helpful! I am a retired registered nurse with osteoarthritis and I sometimes have a "full-body" response to pain that starts in a particular joint. It feels like my "whole body" is "upset". Now I understand why! Thanks for all you do for all of us!

Debbie I’m sorry to hear about the generalized pain you have sometimes! You know pain travels through the path of least resistance once the neurons have flared up in a certain place. I’m glad this shed some light into it & hopefully you can start changing the pain path & retrain the brain & neurons. So much research is being done on the plasticity of the brain & neurons. Take care of yourself. 🤗❤️

Hi! I am also a retired RN, after 40+ years of working I had both knees replaced and have lymphedema in both legs as a chronic condition. I was looking into neuromuscular massage therapy to help assist with pain relief from swelling and venous return to reduce swelling. Thank you, I did gain information and will subscribe and follow progress and hopefully learn more in the near future. It has to be better than chronic pain and immobile.

Thank you! I can't believe I have never heard of these ( apart from Hilton's Law). I've done a 3 years studying osteopathy, an ITEC in massage and an 18 MTH Kinesiology course. Nobody mentioned Pfluger's Laws. And it totally relevant to bodywork. I think these ideas are discussed in Explain Pain, though without naming them. Very helpful 👍🙂🙂

Thank you for sharing this video. I learned so much. Some points I already found out by myself. Too much pressure beyond the comfort level is never good and even counterproductive. Light pressure can feel good at the moment but feels worse after. But now you explained the reasoning behind it soo well. That being said, massage schools in my area (country) are not sufficient. I learned only the basics. But most I learned the most from RU-vid, especially from your channel. And Rebel Massage. And Massage Sloth

@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 2 года назад
I appreciate your feedback! I’m so happy to read you like the nervous system too! Everything begins & ends with the nervous system! Thus the body heals itself because we help relax it & put it in parasympathetic mode. That’s where healing occurs! The reason the threshold is like that so that you don’t overstimulate the sympathetic system too much. People that are in pain it’s already stimulated. I’m so happy to talk nervous system with you! This video doesn’t get enough attention and students are only interested in the muscles lol 😳🤗❤️

Maria this is great information. I’m currently in school but I have already decided this is were I want to land: neuromuscular and clinical. I’m in Houston, do you know where I can get certified in neuromuscular once done with massage school? Please post more videos on this and the type of work you do. This is good stuff!!

Hi once again. Firstly I would really like to thank you for your amazing u tube videos. Secondly also for replying to me so quickly. It’s so funny because before you replied I was already looking at his course today and immediately thought of you when I saw his video using the bevelled tool to save thumbs for the laminate groove. The thing with the course is he says to receive the full medical massage certificate you need to go to classes live for 4 days. I am unable to do this. Do you think that the online classes, alone will be enough to really have confidence to practice after. I can’t imagine how it would be so effective to learn on line only? Many thanks. Sacha 💓

@@lily-vt9om hello again Sacha. I believe it’s perfect timing! It is a long course & you will receive the handbook & access to all the classes. The 4 day intensive is here in El Paso Texas. I think only you can ask yourself that question if it would be worth it. Reason being that you must practice the techniques on someone to learn them. I learned in person with him 33 years ago so it is different. If you need more information to make a decision I can put you in contact with David or Sam. I’m not sure if there’s a # listed. Thank you for your compliment & feedback! Let me know how I can help.

Hi Maria, What are the rules around massage and gout please? It wasn't covered and I can't seem to find any solid answers. Thank you xxx
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 3 года назад
This is one of those situations where it depends on the client & how severe it is. When the client has a flare up it is very painful & swollen. I’ve had clients reschedule because they can’t even walk on that foot or put any pressure on it. Reflexology works well when they have gout because you don’t work directly on the toe just on the reflex. If it’s in between flare ups yes you can work on it however if it’s flaring up most clients don’t want you to touch it. I usually (depending on the severity) put a cold pack while I work the rest of the body. This helps bring down the inflammation. Until the Uric acid is controlled there’s not much we can do. I hope this helps however I think this is why you can’t find a concrete answer! Every situation is different lol. 🤗 thanks for the question

I've noticed my hands get hot and moist since I was a child and even more so during all these years of healing touch. It know it's my Chi/Qi but sometimes the moisture makes dry massage challenging. (To say the least) Lol Often even electrical currents and what feels like sparkles of love I love sharing but it often comes with great heat which makes my hands flow with moisture. Holy waters I call it however for a rare few it may be "gross" ( like my teen) What experience do you have with this and how would you embrace it as gift as I've learned to even in moments when I'd rather be dry. Any advice on what I can do and/or have you come across this before? I'm 54. Been working on bodies for decades and I've just come to embrace this as positive. I do not want any client uncomfortable and so far so good but my own daughter gets the heebie jeebies when I Reiki hot hug her and I have to turn my hands backwards. I can't seem to control it yet and I know it's not comfortable for some and I'd love to have an off for now button. Any advice you have is helpful 🙂 blessings, Akasha
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 2 года назад
Hello Akasha it sounds like you might have Hyperhidrosis of the hands. I like what you said that you have embraced it as part of who you are. I think you are doing a good job of working with this already. One suggestion you can look into is rubbing some lemon juice on your palms. It may keep some of the perspiration down however if you’re going to use lotions or oil it probably won’t work. Hyperhidrosis is a regulated by the sympathetic nervous system so activating the parasympathetic system would help this. That is your rest & digest system. Meditation, yoga and Reiki!You’re already doing this so that’s good! As far as teenagers go they’re usually squirmy & get uncomfortable when you work them. Teenagers are still not comfortable in their own skin so don’t despair about that. I think you’re already doing great! Best of wishes for you 🤗❤️

Please is it normal for a person to have body pains/sore after massage
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 3 года назад
some people are sore after massage. If it last more than 24 hours it is probably because the massage was too deep. Make sure the client drinks lots of water after the massage. You can also recommend that they soak in Epsom Salt. This helps with the soreness

I'm starting to think that these laws aren't holding up over time. Are these laws adapted from other aspects if a and p to serve treatment theories?
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 3 года назад
I’m not sure I understand your comment. These are physiological laws that follow the path of the nerves. This starts from the neuromuscular junction & has to do with the chemical neurotransmitters & synapses & muscle fibers & how they interact. The nervous system & muscular system are very intertwined. I hope this helped. 🤗🤞

@@MassageTherapeutics915 For instance, if I remember right, the all or nothing refers to an action potential firing from reaching the threshold from a graded potential. It really doesn't have to do with anything of what you described.

If I strain a muscle in my wrist, according to pfluger's laws, I will start to feel pain in my other wrist before it the pain travels up on the ipsilateral side. That isn't accurate.
@myoman1977
@myoman1977 3 года назад
I learned these laws 20 years ago. Since then many concepts in neuroanatomy, including coordination, reflex patterns, muscle recruitment, neuro facial connections, trigger point theory and other things have been changed or discarded in favor of new theories and principles. I'm calling into question these "laws" and how outdated they may be. Also, who created these specific laws for neuromuscular therapy? You mentioned one of the laws was made in early 20th century. Janet Travell and the concept of trigger points didn't come until much later. Osteopathic "lesions" would be the closest thing before that, and it was more neurofascial and muscle spindle based...not anything that these laws are describing. I'm saying don't take these laws as fact until you look at the origin, who put them together, and how directly applicable they are to your work. Even you talked about the exception of deep tissue work, even though that ia contrary to the law you described.
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 3 года назад
@Christopher Wood you are obviously very knowledgeable. Pfluger was German anatomist & physiologist before Janet Travell. I’m not here to prove or disprove anything and a lot can get lost in translation. I’m glad you question everything & have your own opinion. I teach & practice staying within the pain tolerance of the client and do not believe in deep tissue. So no I didn’t contradict myself there. If you choose to focus on all the negative I’m sure you will find it! Our perspective reflects where our focus is. I make mistakes & have never claimed to be perfect to the contrary! I neither have the time nor energy to go toe to toe with you. A lot can get lost in translation & in a 10 min video. It’s impossible to explain my 32 years of experience in 10 min or 1 paragraph here. Keep doing your thing I’m sure you don’t need my knowledge because you are far ahead of me. Create a great day
