This band has single handedly, overnight, reignited my passion for music. I literally hadn't enjoyed listening to music for the last 3 or so years. I thought it was dead and buried. And hearing, "Playing God" for the first time literally made me listen to all of their published music over the course of a day and a half. I've been humming, singing in my head, etc. Shit is fucking gas, thanks Tim, Scott, Clay and Clay. You guys slap harder than a vengeful ex lover.
I know that this is out of left field, but just keep this in the back of your mind since I know there are going to be people that say that Tim's guitar playing abilities are so intimidating that it makes you want to stop, or what have you. Guitarists of varying experience levels, Tim more than likely did several takes to get this absolutely perfect. Tim here is absolutely an amazing guitarist, without a doubt. I will not deny that he has prowess... But! Please don't put yourselves down because you saw his best take. We need to remember that no guitarist gets everything right the first time. It takes a pretty decent amount of time to be able to get the right take. Whether it be you, me, Tim, Guthrie Govan, or whomever. No one is perfect the first time. You'll get there, just keep practicing and playing and having fun. This isn't a competition. Music isn't a competition. You're awesome. Just keep playing.
What really hooked me on this track is the way the riffs almost come across with the cadence of vocals. I can imagine lyrics to the pitch and pace of the guitar work so easily. The thing that keeps me coming back for every release is that they manage to have a "sound", but it's also always radically different. How does that even happen?!
Yeah, it's a staple of polyphia ever since like Muse or right after Resurrect when they stopped doing vocals They also use pretty similar phrasing on each sorta "era", like Muse-Renaissance sound so similar to each other while The worst-present uses different phrasing while still keeping parts of the pop influence
I just found this band a month ago and I don’t think I have gone a day without playing atleast on track since. This unplugged cut was pleasing to my soul. Just Damn.
@@PabloMena I've noticed people doing this shit a lot lately. People wanting to teach when they haven't done the work or have the proper understanding.
I was actually just about to ask that. I knew it was an acoustic but wasn,t sure if it was a nylon or standard steel/bronze stringed one. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I kinda could tell it didn,t have that overly bright steel/bronze/nickel whatever string acoustic sound ya know.
Idk, but if it weren't for this man and his band I probably would have stopped playing guitar, as I got tired of metal, and these guy's music brought new light to me and my instrument, going on 3 three years playing, still have a lot to learn but I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. THANK YOU POLYPHIA FOR INSPIRING ME TO CONTINUE!!!!
you're not the only one! i stopped playing guitar like years ago. i only play guitar for a year when i was 14-15 and then i abruptly stopped and never play anymore. and suddenly a few weeks ago i saw a clip of his interview on my ig and i was like "ok this is interesting" and proceed to watch a whole interview on youtube. and then i realised how much i still love playing guitar and suddenly started to play again and now i'm looking for guitarist spot in a band nearby my area hahaha
This song keeps growing on me. Liked it the first time but you rrally appreciate it the more you listen and these acoustic versions bring out all the little nuances. Awesome job all of you! And Tim ye... perfect as usual!
Yeeeees !! I was so eager to hear an unplugged version of this song litteraly for this little line that's a bit lost in the mix of the original release !
tim is like an anime character with character development. his training story arc is his practice sessions. instead of improving every battle , he keeps improving every song they make. not only him but the rest of the band
That's one of the largest appeals. This aesthetic of anime and video game speaks to a lotta young people. Not to me tbh. Too old and that virtuoso skill gets boring real quick. Off course I'm jealous of his skills but it lacks certain emotions for me.
@@patrickbalkany7989 Exactly, isn't just a random acoustic guitar for flamenco, this is a guitar made for nylon shred, like the Tosin Abasi and Xavier Reyes ones and Malmsteen acoustic guitar.
@@SAwesome2 I wouldn't be so sure about the "easier on the fingers". Probably its a matter of taste / what you are most used to. I can imagine someone that rarely or never touches nylon to struggle way more due to lack of experience. But I understand your POV
Another great thing about Polyphia is, once they drop the new one, they also drop 3-4 playthroughs soon so that we can enjoy the song 3-4X more and better
Following These unplugged Playthrough a along with the tabs makes it easier to fix easy mistakes you mishear when listening to the fully mixed song. Seeing you and hearing the specific notes and flow makes it way easier to learn
Amazing playing as usual. It is a joy to watch and listen to Tim's compositions. His precision and skill is off the charts. His playing also has a lot of expression. Outstanding performance.
I’m just so excited when I watch you play! Always a joy to see that level of musicianship and still every purpose of your heart comes through on that fretboard of yours, Wow!
i dont think its "actual" hate, it's just they set their bar up so high and some expected an other step up from the previous stuff main problem with this one imo is the pop music inspiration makes it sound a little more generic than it actually is
@@DDracee i agree. when i first heard the song, i thought it was kinda boring and repetitive at parts, but now that I've listened to it for longer, I'm liking it a lot
I kinda understand how some people don't like it. First time I heard it I didn't really like it because it was not what I was expecting but it grew on me alot, love it tho
Greatest thing about being a polyphia fan: been listening to their music since like 2017 and found out yesterday my mom not only listens to them but has seen them 2 times already lmao she’s in her 50s glad to know where my music appreciation comes from. Definitely trying to see them live with her as a surprise present next time they come by nj/ny
Playing God aside, this song is actually pretty cool acoustic. This makes me think that a separate acoustic EP or maybe a deluxe edition album with acoustic versions of the songs would be really cool to have. Plus, I really want to see how Scottie would re-do his solo in this song for an acoustic studio version.
Ive been listening to this on repeat for an hour and i still cant get enough , i dont play any instruments but i always dream of being able to play like Tim
I like how at 0:49 he plays the solo with higher notes but then transitions farther up the neck to get a deeper and different sound, it sounds amazing. That’s what’s sick about this song is that Tim and Scott at times play the same thing but at different parts of the neck which makes learning this fun. Legends. Also…thanks for putting both parts side by side on the TAB…amazing
i love your music absolutely so much! it puts me in a better place in my head and my heart, please never stop making music like this! thank you for your music its so much appreciated and loved
A MUSICAL GENIUS! LOVE his mindset of NOT in timing rhythm patterns and syncopation. I’m a drummer and I just LOVE his grooves! I’m in COMPLETE AMAZEMENT! BLOWN AWAY! He has an EXTREMELY EXTRAORDINARY GIFT at such a young age! Play on bro, play on. LOVE your content. IM HOOKED!
Wow, just wow. Hearing the timbres you coax out of an acoustic is impressive. Your harmonic composition and technique are so dynamic it almost sounds like you're changing instruments. Really really nice.
Tim’s story is so good, his mom was very strict wanted him to play violin but he wanted to play guitar, hanging out with a fun bad crew at school, but still had that passion but for a different type of sound, that’s wild to me. Not to mention bro is so well disciplined he taught himself software engineering and landed a job, fuck this man is not only inspiring me in music but in life thank you Tim, just went to your concert in Houston a few weeks ago we love you man
Never in my life have i had a room as clean as yours is in that video. Also, you are setting new standards for the music i listen to, and it is making it harder to appreciate the simpler musicians. you are an insiration.
I hardly ever came across any artist sharing so much information and knowledge about their work as you do. In the name of every musician out there looking for advice, inspiration or even for a challenge: Thank you!
Holy moly this is on another universe level, I been playing over 30 years and when I watch Tim play I just put my guitar down and listen, he’s unbelievable!!!
One of very favorite parts of this awesome song is in the "outro",(at 2:32) if that's even the term. If you listen to the album version of this song, it is easy to initially miss how all those light, glittery notes supporting those last few measures are anything but an afterthought. The melody in these last few measures (?) is actually quite simple, but when you see him playing it here acoustically, you can begin to appreciate EVERYTHING (!) else he is doing aside from just strumming the melody!! It's unprecedented. (Please forgive my semi-ignorance of correct musical terms - but you get the idea)
I really love These unplugged play throughs cause they have really helped me with learning the songs because the sounds and finger placements come out clearer
I hope you know just how amazing you are. I imagine when you’re at the top it’s hard to realize it. You’re perfect. You’re an inspiration to so many. Thank you.
Im a piano player and prefer in general this instrument more, but the diversity and creativity you are able to express with the guitar brings me to want to learn it. just impressive how ease you make it look. Incredible precision.
I'm back! Lol. And drunk too!! I just wanted to thank Tim for taking the time to make this video. I watch this one most frequently and I love the way the song sounds and feels with that guitar. It's just a great feeling. Cheers! 🍺
Tim, the Universe is literally a better place because you exist. You have a style and a touch I've never seen, snowballed by surgical precision on every note. Every single note is audible and watching you play is hypnotizing. I literally cannot quantify words to describe how ingenious your approach to music theory actually is. I'm gonna absolutely love watching and listening to your music for as long as I'm able.
Does your Blues Brother feel the same? I have a vague feeling what John Belushi would say about this music. Like you said: he can play anything with alien precision and skills, makes all musicians jealous because he's so insanely good. But there's no soul. And it takes sociopaths to become this good. It's in the playing; no emotions. I'd rather hear a Slash solo anytime. I'm old also. But then again, this must be good because they're so good. Maybe they're too good.
