Hello! Amy-Jo here! Thanks for filming this, it's perfect timing. We are heading there tomorrow. We are in Bavaria right now and have been rewatching your videos as we go to brush up on the things to see and do. Thank you so much for helping us with our itinerary it was SO worth it. This has been hands down the best vacation we've had. Thank you for all the incredible material in your videos. This one is helpful and just in time.

Fun fact: Herrenchiemsee is smaller than Versailles, however, only because the sidewings are missing. The middle part, the corps de logis, which is the most important part of Herrenchiemsee and Versailles, is actually a bit bigger than the original. The famous Gallery of Mirrors is actually a bit longer than the original too, and while much of the gold in Versailles is just painted onto the ceiling, it's fully molded in Herrenchiemsee, which makes the gallery seem even more opulent than the original. Last but least, Herrenchiemsee features a copy of Versailles' Ambassadors' Staircase, the grandest of all its staircases, however, the staircase has been lost in Versailles, because later kings needed more living room and ripped it out. So, only in Herrenchiemsee can you still marvel at the Ambassadors' Staircase. So if one thinks: Eh... Don't need to see Herrenchiemsee, because I've seen the original and don't need to see the inferior copy, think again. ;)

0.00 It is not a "miniature" Versailles, in fact the central building is larger than that of Versailles! The side wings would also have been larger if they had been completed. Even the interior (as far as it has been completed) is more opulent than the original.

I, as a former local Munich resident, visited Herrenchiemsee multiple times during my six year stint, enjoying the same fish and beer at the island's local Biergarten over and over again. So why did I watch this video? Because it was so entertaining - I just love your content! PS: Consider taking the IC-Train to Prien the next time, it's run by "DB Fernverkehr" in which the "€49 Ticket" doesn't qualify, but the ICs are far less crowded and only stop twice enroute to Prien.

Thank you so much! :) Maybe we will do that next time. We just don't make a lot of money from the channel, so we are trying to keep expenses as low as possible.

You should also do favorite parks, open spaces, and forests around München (have to be accessible via S-bahn). Off the top of my head, mine would be Ebersberg, Perlacher Forst, Englishergarten, and the Isar between Harlaching and downtown.

You can buy combined tickets for the Chiemsee-Bahn (train/tram) and the boats. Return ticket from Prien train station to Herreninsel is 14,50 Euro for an adult (2024). The tickets are good for a day *). Not just for a specific train or boat run. *) if you stay overnight - that's more of an option if you do Prien - Herreninsel - Fraueninsel (and back) - you can have your ticket marked with "Übernachtung" (overnight). Then you can even return the next day. The price stays the same. Regarding the steam loco "Laura" (1887) I only found a notice from April 2024 that it won't be under steam until further notice.

Visited there last August, in our case we drove. Would DB run the trains better? I did not know that cute small guage rail went to the train station, we just saw it near the docks. We had an equally hot day as well. We enjoyed that HB eatery and I had to have the currywurst, but your selections looked wonderful. I found the museum inside the palace really interesting, especially the history of Ludwig and Schwangau area. We also enjoyed the tour. Don't miss the great museum near the restaurant you were in. Lots of info about the constitution and Germany history there. See you with 25K subscribers soon!

If you really wanna see a great palace, go to Wuerzburg Residenz! I've been there 4 times, and would never miss it on any trip to that wonderful small city. I saw it first in 1963 whilst it was still being reconstructed from W.W. II bomb damage and fire. Herrenchiemsee is also on my bucket list for my 2024 German trip next month. I've toured Linderhof twice but never visited the interior of Neuschwanstein, but Hohenschwangau is excellent. Get to see Richard Wagner's piano there!

Hi Camille, I’m a pescatarian too and I would like to ask, any restaurants I should check out in Munich? I’ve lived there some years ago and I’ve always only been to Nordsee for seafood. Otherwise it was always vegetarian/vegan food. in 2022 i was there, Nordsee was not great at all. Maybe someday a pescatarian/vegetarian food tour vlog in Munich? Love your content btw, I used some videos to curate my trip to Munich the last time. The next time I’m definitely going to check out Herrenchiemsee!

The palace is closed on December 24, 25, 31 and January 1. So plan accordingly. In winter, the palace also has shorter opening hours, namely from 10 am to 4.45 pm (last guided tour at 4 pm!) In sunny weather, the palace is certainly worth a visit, even in winter time, but taking the ferry and walking to the palace in a snowstorm is probably not.

@Opa_Andre
@Opa_Andre Месяц назад
What's wrong with you, dude? I'd say: Mind your own business. And if you don't like what you see, feel free not to watch the channel. BTW, the caps he is wearing are local ones, like the current one in this video with the bavarian state logo on it or another one with the symbolic Edelweiss flower which is the logo of the alps region. BTW, while I'm not often wearing one, my doc just recommended me to do so for sun protection as it helps against getting possible skin cancer. So what's more important - personal preference or even health or a strangers dislike? Maybe you should cooldown and relax... possibly by wearing a cap yourself. 😉
