This is a great explanation on emollients, occlusives, and humectants! Its amazing how many people advocate for 'all natural' oils as moisturizers. Come to find out they don't actually moisturize, and I fell for it until I found your youtube channel. Thanks for saving me years of dry skin!

I fell for it to for almost 2 years of my life until my skin got to the point where it looked so dehydrated I looked years older. The final straw for me was when family members started asking me if I was OK and going through a lot of stress because of the way my face looked 😱 I was oil cleansing and moisturizing with oils only 😵

@@ashlynnkaplan1369 Same here! I thought I had the best skincare routine in the world because I was using plant oils all the time. I just started watching Dr. Dray last week (binge watching to be specific) and totally changed my routine and I already see a difference. I had the most oily skin in the world but once I started PROPERLY moisturizing a few days ago I can already tell my skin isn't overcompensating for dryness anymore so it is not as oily!

Lydia Shae this was a total shock for me, I tried the neutrogena water boost and I have very sensitive skin and I haven’t felt any burning sensation and it is very effective, since I have a combination skin I only use it at night

that makes a lot more sense to me now. I loved the hydrogel extra dry for the face but felt I still had to use my Cerave cream on top. I find that the Clinique gel cream in the jar is very similar to the Neutrogena hydroboost for dry skin. I just love the Cerave cream in the tub container for body and face. I recently had to go from Georgia to Michigan, this last week and oh my, my skin got so dry but the Cerave was a skin saver for sure!

I agree. I bought the same body moisturizer a couple months ago and did not the like consistency and noticed the dryer skin. I have found mixing it or layering it with other moisturizers work great for me. Mixing helps spread some of my thicker moisturizers on my body more easily when my skin is dry (I’m too young to have thin crepey skin!) Additionally, when I used it on my face it really helped severe dryness around my eyes (literally overnight). A tiny amount on wet face followed by vanicream and it has been personally great for me. Sometimes I use in connection with cereve PM and that works great too. I agree with another reviewer that you would have a great product line. Even if you can be a part of product development with another line. Thanks for all you do with research, editing, and posting. Love your passion!

I wish I had seen Dr Dray's video on this before I bought it. Doesn't make my skin feel "dry" per se. But makes it feel real itchy as if it were dried out, if that makes sense. Everything else she does recommend has been working great so far 👍

I never realized that the Hydro Boost was meant to be used under another moisturizer. They don't tell you that. I'm using the facial Hydro Boost extra dry and then a moisturizer on top and it works much better.

I appreciate your continuing to cover issues you've discussed before because I think it deepens my understanding. It's frustrating when an issue (like emollient v occlusive for example, or a particular line like Neutrogena, or a particular ingredient) is explained in one video and not again since youtube videos do not use extensive key words to catalog what is discussed making it so very difficult to find the one helpful video again.

I have finally found a cream that my skin doesn't react to it's emolliens cold cream made in farmacy with just four ingredients and water: cetylpalmitate,paraffin, beeswax,borax and purified water.It would be better if it had some humectant in it instead just water and a part of some oil with paraffin ,but it's not bad for a start .My skin's not burning red and dry when I put it on :) and don't brake out. This Hydroboost body cream is amazing. I put it in the shower so when I shut the water off I automatically put it all over my skin while it is wet. Once absorbed in, I then put on the Cerave tub cream on. I have been doing this for a few weeks now and my dry skin feels so hydrated and no flakey skin since I have been doing this routine. Win..win

Does it work effectively for a daily face and neck routine? I wonder if the steps are as follow: 1- Wet the face and neck 2- Get some cream and apply on the skin. Massage gently in circles 3- Rinse with water 4- Dry the skin and then apply some other moisturizer Is the right way? Thanks in advance

AWESOME video, as always, LOVE your reviews!!!! I have been using the Neutrogena Hydroboost Extra Dry on nights when I don't use my Retin A. it seems SO soothing. But I use it alone, maybe not such a good idea. I do really like it and my skin seems to as well. Must have gotten it by recommendation by you, I am thinking as I rarely come up with something like that by myself, Lol. Hope you are having a GREAT week!!!

Awesome review! Been using the gel-cream for a while now, love it. Will the Cetaphil Moisturising Cream for Dry skin be sufficiant as skin barrier? I have dry skin. I also saw Cetaphil body lotion can be used on ones face, but was sceptical to try?

Dr Dray's opinion of this changed wildly for the better as the years went on for some reason (her words are consistent, she just changed her view). Like this video 2 years later: "The BEST GEL CREAMS for oily, sensitive skin| Dr Dray". Then by about 3 years later, she has gone through 3 or 4 bottles of it lol, "NEUTROGENA VS TRADER JOE'S HYALURONIC BODY GEL CREAM". Maybe the ingredients changed... because the product does have petrolatum in it, at least now. Maybe a potential change there is what changed her view of it.

Very informative video, thank you so much but it does leave me with a few question. I started making my own lotion from caster oil, glycerin, olive oil, vitamin E and Rose hip Oil which I put on my wet skin after my shower. After watching this video, I think I need to add what you call an occlusive ingredient so I ordered Lanolin oil and mineral oil. What is the best way to incorporate these? Should I leave my oils separate and put them on my skin first and then mix the lanolin and mineral oils and put on after or can I mix all together and apply? If mixing all, should the oils or the occlusives be a higher percentage? Again, thank you, Cindy.

I like that the Hydroboost jar gel-creme can be used for lip lines and as a primer, than apply a moisturizer on top to seal it in.

This is such useful information. During the winter time, my skin becomes very dry and i get cracking around my lips. Probably from sleeping with my mouth open lol. Anyway I like to layer with a skin essence to get that extra boost of hydration. I would treat this item like that! I think this would work wonderful for that purpose to really keep my skin plump. AND to save $$ as well! Thank you so much! I love your informative videos!
