This video basically focuses on how the neutrophils appear in strained peripheral blood smears and with their core functions in a human body..
Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell, also known as polymorphonuclear leukocytes or PMNs, that play a crucial role in the immune response to infections. They are the most abundant type of white blood cell in the body and are produced in the bone marrow.
The primary function of neutrophils is to identify and destroy invading microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi. They do this by engulfing and digesting the microorganisms through a process called phagocytosis. Neutrophils also release enzymes and chemicals that can destroy the microorganisms and promote tissue healing.
In addition to their role in the immune response, neutrophils also play a role in inflammation. When an infection or injury occurs, neutrophils are one of the first cells to migrate to the affected area, attracted by chemical signals released by damaged tissues. They release a variety of pro-inflammatory molecules, such as cytokines and chemokines, that help to recruit other immune cells to the site of infection or injury.
Neutrophils also play a role in the clearance of dead and dying cells, as well as other debris, from the body. They are capable of phagocytosing and breaking down cellular debris and other foreign material, helping to maintain tissue homeostasis.
Overall, the functions of neutrophils are critical for the body's defense against infection and injury, as well as for tissue repair and maintenance.
