It’s mind blowing that their answer is to issue tickets, instead of finding a solution, perhaps building parking lots for rv’s, vans and people who can’t afford an apartment or a house.

@@jennis4018 We shouldn't be forced to adapt to corporate greed that is at the crux of the issue. Instead, we need to get involved at a local and national level to deal with the giant investment management companies that have been sweeping up properties all over the country. First time home buyers are priced out of the market and affordable apartment complexes become unaffordable under these companies. They will suck the middle class dry.

As I watch this, I am settling in for the night in my vehicle in a Nevada parking lot. I am house less, not homeless. The nomadic community is a different “neighborhood” than a homeless encampment riddled with drugs and crime. I’m a widow, mother and grandmother making the best financial decisions to sustain me long-term, without being a burden to my family or community. This lifestyle gives me financial freedom to travel. I don’t drink, smoke or do drugs, never been arrested, paid my taxes, and attend church in the various towns in which I find myself when Sunday rolls around. The area around my vehicle is left cleaner in the morning than it was when I pulled in. I so appreciate the few businesses that allow me to tuck into a corner of their parking lot to safely spend the night. I would anticipate that the numbers of nomadic people and families will do nothing but increase in the coming years. Perhaps instead of passing judgment our communities and places of worship could consider opening an overnight parking area for nomads just like me. I think you would be pleasantly surprised with the folks with whom you would come in contact if you should dare speak with one of us and perhaps with that brief association your understanding of a different life path would deepen. Many nomads volunteer helping other nomads and those less fortunate. Nomads help to keep clean our BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land. Likely you interact already with some of us and don’t even know it. This segment of my journey through life has been rich with blessings.

It has been reported that rich corporations have been buying up housing, even single family homes, jacking up the sales prices, and raisng the rent they charge therefore contributing to higher rent rates overall. It's such an issue in many parts of the country that the traditional young family has been unable to own their own home.

That neighborhood that you're showing across the street from that "encampment"? It wasn't even there 5 years ago. Most of the homes directly across the street from that spot were only built in the last 18 months, and the ones on the extreme western edge are still being built out. That spot has been a hugely popular boondocking spot for the nearly 15 years that I have lived nearby. This guy in the video is a typical affluent and privileged person who moves into a newly developed area and then complains about the existence of things that were there long before he arrived. I have absolutely no problem with the people boondocking there in the cooler months. I park out there to hike up the trail going up that ridge, for the combined beautiful views looking out toward Red Rock on one side, and towards the Strip on the other. I have never seen a problem of trash, or noise, or drinking, or anything else. I see people who enjoy the land and respect the land, and who aren't bothering anyone but the affluent Chads and Karens.

In the same token no one is looking down on someone because their homeless, you can be homeless that doesn't mean you get to leave trash everywhere. If the law is it's illegal, you would want to do the least so as to not draw attention to living in your car. I'M CURRENTLY STAYING THERE! First off, when I had to leave my apartment I went to the BLM section of Red Rock because I wanted to be lawful and I was approached by a park Ranger one night, he told me to go to this location because it is safer. I will tell you straight up 99.9% of people staying there are responsible and respectful people. Very very few people have been there for longer than a week, most are travelers. Few people are locals like me, I've been there for 8 weeks and have never seen anyone leave trash and no one is ever up late being loud, partying anything. It's actually quite remarkable. I'm very thankful to have been able to stay in a place so safe and quiet considering my position. Most people only stay overnight until 8:30am, if they are locals they are going to work and travelers are going for morning hikes bikes etc. I've been working as a tour guide for an atv company and am 1 or 2 paychecks away from being able to rent a room in someone's home, so I will be leaving soon but the locals there are just like me. They're trying to get into a better position.

Good insight! Wow, I’m surprised a ranger told you that, especially considering all the car break ins and catalytic converter thefts that happen nearby in calico. I’d feel safer in the BLM areas. Not sure if those areas are actually considered part of red rock though. It’s kind of a grey area, despite some signs stating otherwise, but those are pretty far out there. You weren’t accidentally camping in black velvet or mud springs or something right? Those spots are off limits to campers.
@drotegu6
@drotegu6 2 года назад
@@mcculloughdakota If you take a look at the BLM map for. Red Rock you'll see practically everything off the side of the main road is BLM, not the actual conservation area. That's why there are some "no camping" signs in for of some trail heads. As long as there isn't a no camping sign off the main road you can camp. Ironically, the area the Ranger told me to go is not authorized for camping lol. But that's why you have seen vans, rvs etc there for years cause the police tell them to go there. I think it's in part safety in numbers and also no to have people scattered all over Red Rock 🤘

Let's be clear about a few points here. First of all, what you showed in your video was not homeless people partying and living in their vehicles. Those were legally parked vehicles with no occupants in them. One of the vehicles can be clearly identified as a company work truck. Secondly, while the pandemic did have a big impact, the real problem is that people can't afford to live in the rapidly increasing cost of living in Las Vegas. Low wages in Las Vegas are $20 to $25 per hour and these people can't afford to rent or buy a home so they are forced to live in their vehicles or camp where ever they can. There's a lot of hostility about these "homeless" people but nobody is really addressing the issue and helping.

I've tried everything to hide my experience and look younger but it doesn't work. I got hired by a company with good pay but was let go after I gave my social security card and drivers license with the excuse they accidentally hired 2 people for the same job, just to clarify they are still interviewing for that one position. The practice is illegal but it goes on everywhere. So what choice but minimum wage do I have, I'm now a security guard for 15$ an hour I should be making at least $60 an hour, if I was younger I would. This country is so ruined.

Notice how the story is one sided where they assumed everyone was homeless? I've seen tons of people who were there to hike and rock climb in Red Rock. There is only one campground at Red Rock and it isn't big enough to accommodate more campers. Also, many of the camper vans and SUVs are high dollar vehicles and not something homeless people are going to own!

The homeless population problem goes back decades. It started in 1980's and before, but rarely seen. It got worse as the decades came and went. But it has really took off dramatically and hugely in last 15 years or so year by year. 10 years ago it was bad, but nothing like now. Unfortunately it will continue to spike up year by year and in next ten or 20 years, half the country will be homeless if this charade of greed and selfishness continues. No relief in sight, just lip service by all in government saying they are trying to fix the problem. It's BS, they are not! Homelessness is the norm now. Get used to it. That’s why before the 1990s you could stay at places like the downtownr motel and crest motel for $20 a night, because there was a standard in society and always a basic clean accommodation, you could live there and then work at someplace and build up, but now anywhere you stay is $100+ and they also didn’t have resort fees back then, and what is left of that is over priced boutique motels or complete dumps. Do not assume that everyone who lives in a vehicle is homeless. Some of those rigs shown in this news clip sell for over 100 grand. I lived in a van and during that time, I never felt more alive. I also had thousands in the bank but chose not to get a room. It's called boon docking, not homelessness. Boon docking is a freer, more adventurous and a more recreational way of living. Bob Well's is the most noted person who promotes dispersed living and he has many videos on RU-vid. I would recommend "Without Bounds" as a starter video into this subject. Bob also makes more money than many people who live in boring houses. As far as this issue is concerned, Nevada is not lacking in wasteland and BLM Property, I'm sure this issue can be worked out. I'm working more than 40 hours a week, and with the BS minimum wage on top of rising gas prices, and rent increase, it's just about IMPOSSIBLE to live alone. Most places require 3x the rent to start off, and no SINGLE person can do that. I had to have someone cosign for my apartment or I wouldn't have a place to live either. Compared to other homeless rows that was/is nothing. Have compassion and work on solutions. It's only going to get worse.

That's man's attitude disgusts me. This whole report is a joke... They're going to issue tickets to people already struggling 🤡. Having had to live in my van before, simply because one set back suddenly made my living paycheck to paycheck impossible... Disgusting. Like, what the hell... This makes me wanna cry.

They’re trying to be close to town and out of peoples way yet are still being pushed out. Those grill out are people just trying to cook their food. So upsetting to see that this is the mindset of some of the community

Concerned...that people EXIST? Their purpose for being there...is LIVING. Yeah, funny thing, people have a RIGHT to live and they are supposed to have a right to PROPERTY too so they can do this! You've really sold your souls, haven't you? That and your wits. So astonishing to witness this happening. How spiteful can you be? YOU WILL OWN NOTHING! Do you understand!? NOTHING.
