It’s not that the song is a problem, but I does not showcase their vocals as much. Which is fine, cause we do know what they’re capable of when in other songs.

Actually... Processing is done in post, there's no post on first take. They also don't use applied vocals effects on the mics of live vocal tuning. The most that is allowed is a live vocal mixer which is used at every single stage performance of anyone over the 50 years in music. However most first takes don't have one unless it was a HEAVILY stylized song to begin with, and it's in this environment it's only allowed to do certain things that don't actually augment to much, however it would be hooked up to their mics clear as day and they aren't. So, THIS was indeed very live. What they are talking about is the vocal layering. Which because there's so much of it, is acting as a constant "fullness track" which is kinda like a backing track, specially with this much vocal layering, but the layer are the lines being done at both higher and lower notes that the main layer of vocals the girls are providing in order to create harmony as well as fullness of sound and depth. Completely normal for a chorus, but they are right, this has like.... a lot of layers to it. Which is fine, I guess. But it can be very problematic if the artists aren't very accustomed to performing with such layering and in those cases ends up like a weird echo. Luckily... I guess lol The girls are used to it, so it sounded great. And although it abide fully by the rules, it's not something I'm used to seeing on the first take. Lol because I mean, they aren't using any editing/processing of vocals, or effects, but it is using what is basically a backing track with this much layering done, but because the topmost "primary" or dominant vocals lines have been removed, it's technically not a backtrack but, as I said, a fullness track which means it's just the layers which is normal on any artists live performance. Even the best of the best have it. However... this is an unusual amount. I guess im just saying it's not doing them any justice. They didn't need all the layering, they would have been able to fill the intensity of that part with their voices with just the normal amount of layering and been just as good. It's not like they were singing hard up until that point, they had a lot of power left. Just seems like SM is always so worried about "the sheer possibility" they could fall short that they won't even allow them to prove that they are capable of not doing that. Just seems counterproductive. Anyways, when it comes to encode stages, those may be "truly live with no ACCOMPANIMENT" lol which is what would have been the right explanation for what they had happening here, not processing.... but it's also not performed with as much seriousness, clarity or sound quality aka the proper mics and room. And therefore is NOT at all an accurate gage for what an idol can do. In fact, what it is an accurate gage for is how bad an idols. Completely live raw vocals can sound in with the least amount of effort being given by either the idols (usually) or the stage and equipment itself (always) lol It's live, but it's also 1/3 the effort and 1/3 the professional environment. Which is 2/3 the difference of what makes ANY Live performance sound good. Lol this is more accurate to their ability/talent, whereas an encode is more accurate to singing in your bedroom into kids karaoke mic whilst dancing around in front of a mirror with just the instrumental playing on the TV only your bedroom. Only it's on a stage in a large open room with a bunch of people watching and judging you harshly. Anyways i just thought i would explain because while I'm not a fan of Aspea.... Aespa? ASPA! Close enough, I do know they are talented and I do know that SM sets them up for controversy unnecessarily by doing this bs. More importantly, I am a big fan of the First Take and I know them to be a truly legit live experience, one of the VERY few. Well... unless of course the song has a half dozen to a dozen layers applied to a lot of the more vocal heavy portions of the song. STILL LIVE, technically, lol but also not the first takes fault. They wouldn't bad vocal layering outright and therefore ask people to butcher their songs by removing all vocals that aren't be live. Sometimes there's only so much a person can provide in live one take environment. That could make for an empty somg. However... I bet they will have a limit put on layering after this performance. Lol i mean, thats kinda how any such stage learns what they will and won't allow, through trial and error. You won't know till you try and find out it steps on your reputation a bit too much. You know?
