You can say this simpler, in audio engineering, like this: When you cut out things that you do not like, the things you like will shine more. If you boost things you like, you also boost things you do not like, because you can't really isolate the boosting as good as you can isolate and boost after cutting what you do not like. Considering that Spotify only gives you 6 EQ bands, go for cutting what you think is too much there.

Also turn off the "normalization" option in Spotify/Tidal especially on your phone. It is like a terrible compressor that kills bass and squashes dynamics. It's main purpose is to make it so that volume levels between songs are the same. I turn it off for so many people and every single person prefers it off. My cousin recently complained about his car stereo sounding bad especially with rock. I turned normalization off and his first response was "holy sh¡t..." It especially kills bass. On Samsung, the "Dolby Atmos" setting can also ruin the low end on songs in case you feel the bass isn't quite right. Sometimes it creates more space (sounds wider) especially on Tidal but it can do the opposite. It also boosts bass but sometimes distorts it, especially on car stereos. Most songs the average person listens to on Spotify were mixed and mastered really well. Unless you know what you're doing you will most likely ruin the mix. But in some cases, like the case with Bose QuietComforts, good EQ can transform your listening experience.

While im no audiophile, I certainly appreciate better sounding music, and have a pretty sensitive ear i think. I dont share your dislike for normalization though. It never was turned on by default for me, and started using it after I realized that it exists. Never really noticed the difference in soud quality though. But the other day when I was setting up a smart speaker, which didn't have the normalization feature for spotify, I definitely noticed it missing. Pretty much every 3rd track was on a different sound level and I had to kept adjusting the volume. After about an hour it was still bothering me so I ended up ditching the smart part of the speaker and been using it as a simple bluetooth speaker playing from my pc.

@@bikalimark this. Normalization is actually very good for sensitive ears. Also helps getting rid of annoying buzzling that some songs have on background. This + some tweaking on eq is perfect for me.

Just had the same reaction just cousin had, thank you so much! I can also notice it a lot on Spotify for Desktop.

I assume you have some a/b tests to show it? Because spotify self states that it only adjust the gate, like every normalization tool for audio works. Only reason I can see why people like it more without is that in most cases the audio would be louder. And that is also why adding compression doesn't make sense. It only makes sense if you need to hit a higher dB/LUFS. And another reason is maybe that people want too listen louder than the amp can gain. But then spotify doesn't make the music bad, but your audio gear does. And maybe you should listen to bit lower volume anyway

ONG this shit sound so much better when its off WTF 🔥🔥

This is because most songs nowadays are mastered around 0dB already, even quiet songs go up to 0dB but just SOUND quieter.

I noticed the clipping when I tried to EQ the Xbox Wireless Headset (which has an EQ program inside the Xbox dashboard). Audio quality using any of the EQ presets was horrible so I decided that default values must be the only setting maintaining signal integrity, but after seeing this I assume that I could do some EQ by only turning frequencies down.

I am glad I watched this, after 4:20 spending about a $1000 on Apple AirPods max and thought thy aren’t bassy enough so started messing with EQ

This happens because Spotify's equalizer is for kindergarten kids; actually, besides tone correction, it also boosts the sequence, and most musical pieces are optimized for 0dB. It's pointless, just marketing.

Forgot to link that. Added. Here it is as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ECHVpfD0iac.html As for EQ settings it's best to play around to find what you like - that's what matters most after all :)
