I bought a 2007 Cadillac DTS Trim lll 3 months ago for 500 bucks. The guy thought the engine was blown and wouldn't hold any tranny fluid. I bought a new battery(100), oil change($40), Trans fluid change and filter($120) Found Trans leak at fluid cooler line adapter, bad o ring($15). The thermostat was bad($10) and radiator cap($10) both of these will make dts overheat by themselves. Plus replaced rear air shocks($60) for set from RockAuto. It has no check engine light on, does good on gas for V8 and drives so smooth and FAST! I LOVE THIS CAR!!! BOTTOM LINE is Noone did routine maintenence. This car was beat, drugg and left for dead. A little ROUTINE MAINTENENCE and $355 in parts. Oh yeah I did the work myself so like someone said earlier...... NOT A KIDS CAR!!
it was only worth $500 with a all those problems you named. you do know that dont you? a bad radiator can blow the motor alone & trans leak isnt a easy fix. but glad you got it fixed 💯
I own a 2008 DTS I’ve owned it for 3 years and it’s been a great car, the early DTS had problems with the engine, the problem was corrected after the 2006 year
I have 2007 Performance model. Has 278,000. Rides good. Everything works. Does have the the oil pan gasket leak. I was at 1 quart of oil per 800 miles. I like these old cars. I don't know what else to get for highway travel. Certainly not some battery powered car.
So this is a longer comment so let me apologize now.. 1. I’ve had a DTS now for like three years no major issues at all…I mean the thing leaks oil but anyone that has had a northstar engine knows it’s going to leak oil I think Caddy knew that because it holds like 7.5 quarts of that sht. But yeah I roll them all the time and there pretty inexpensive to fix to if you know a good mechanic anyway stay away from shops tho they’ll rip you off because they charge by the hour not the job and it takes a while to fix everything in this car because of how tight caddie crammed all that sht in there. Also never drive it with issue or lights on and sht when something breaks fix it and a DTS will last forever trust me. Oh one more thing there hard to sell but when you sell them you get your money back. Because people either hate Cadillacs or they love Cadillacs I’ve sold 4 and I’ve always made a profit. And I mean always… Anyway I hope that helps someone out…
They're not garbage. At the age you are, you don't know what garbage is. You kids are lucky to be able to even have these. Try a 1984 Mercury Lynx... THAT'S garbage ! When I was your age... that's what we had to bash.
They’re nice looking cars with decent luxury interiors, very expensive when new, but mechanically the build quality is crap, at least on mine and other people I know that have these. I wouldn’t doubt that mid 80s American compact cars are worse because they were built to throw away after a few years
I've had a couple and they were great. Do t get one with over 100k but then again ANY used car with a certain amount of mileage will break. Get 2006+ the head bolts are fixed.
MAN LET ME TELL YOU I LOVE MY DTS BEAUTIFUL CAR, RIDE LIKE BUTTER, HARDLY EVER HAD ENEY PROBLEM, MY WATER PUMP WENT OUT IN 2012, I BOUGHT IT IN 2010 OK THAT'S IT, NOW ITS 2023 NO PROBLEMS
cadillac dts is the best thing on earth i wish i could buy it if i was living in the states i would of bin rich rebuilding the caddy northstar such a sweet machine
Bad advice. Never buy one that you can't tell why it is cheap. Bought one for 1000 bucks. Have 2200 in it. Was a repo with broken glass dented driver fender and missing cat. Selling it for 5000 now that everything is fixed. Everything is perfect on it. 199k miles 45k miles on engine.
I've had mine since 2015. The only major problems i've had was the fuel pump and a power steering hose. It's important to follow the maintenance schedule on these cars and replacement parts should be OEM type only-no substitutions including the filters. Also this is not a car for shadetree mechanics or gresase monkey gutter shops. You'll need the GM dealer or professional shop with ASE certified technicians to properly maintain this car. These cars were not designed or built for frugal people on tight budgets. These were geared toward people with mean$.
I haven't found it anymore or less reliable than any other motor, just costs more. The normal person is more likely to run it into the ground before fixing it. I like the cars so I don't have an issue with repairs since I knew what I was buying. I have a suburban with a 5.3 that costs more to maintain than my northstar does.
I truly believe this car was bought, already with problems just to bash it & the Northstar stigma. I owned two, a 2003 DHS (before the longer headbolts were used) & a 2008 DTS that I've owned since Dec 2017. Had maybe 4 problems in 6 years, but the car is 14 years old!
I definitely wouldn’t have bought a car just to bash it, I bought it with the intent to make money on it but the car unfortunately was junk in the short time I owned it. I’m glad you had a much better experience with these cars than I did!
I've had my 2008 DTS since 2017 and I still love it. In fact, I just spent about $5K to have the motor resealed from the oil leaks which is a problem. But that the first real money I spent outside of normal maintenance and I hope the money I just spent is the last big money I put into the car. I had them replace anything marginal while the engine was out and she rides like brand new now. I'm sorry yours was problem ridden but I love mines.
Lol, "it's not like it was abused or anything," ignoring the smashed front end. If someone didn't think that it might be sensible to fix that, then what other preventative maintenance might've been skipped? That's not the DTS's fault. The same advice applies to literally any model of car; GM or otherwise.
That’s a very strong statement you made; however these car’s are made for people that have means. By the way I own one like yours a luxury III and it cost $61,000 new.
@@eaauto6182 That’s exactly why I made that statement, on another level one can pick up a used older Range Rover/Mercedes Benz for about 10k or less but it doesn’t make it cheep because something fails and they can’t afford to fix it.
They made these so cheaply for a Cadillac. Shrink the car and make everything so plasticy. These cars are junk. Everything about it screams cheap. You want to own a reliable car that's luxury and you don't have to dump a ton of money in. Get a Lincoln Town Car and forget any new Cadillac from 2000 up
I have an 05 Acura with under 100k on the odometer, had to put over $2000 in it over about a year and a half. People don't understand that just because it's a certain name brand it doesn't mean it's good or bad necessarily. As a car ages things will break regardless of what brand you're driving. Also, if you buy a used car from a dealer and not from someone you know, you risk a lot because the previous owner may have treated the car badly.
This car wasn’t bought from a dealer, it was from a private seller that dumped money into it. These things don’t just have minor issues as they are aging, it’s usually problems that will cost more than the car is worth to fix.
You gotta have a few dollars and know how to turn a wrench/troubleshoot on these cars. I've had a few Northstars and will buy them again...got a connect up in Chicago that is a specialist on the Northstars. You younger guys complain too much.
God has blessed my DTS over the 2 years I have had her. We got our ups and down but for her to have 229000 I won’t complain. Yes it’s a pain but my car gotten me from thick and thin tho she need a water pump aye she still been reliable to me
My 2003 Cadillac Deville fuel injectors failed open. I burned up brakes in 5 miles with sudden unintended acceleration. Funny they blame SUA on floor mats. Hogwash ! The car only has 106K miles. Really like the ride in the spaciousness. It’s had a rough idle problem for some time do the vacuum leaks I thought. Then the car will die at a stoplight because it wouldn’t idle. Once I get the car restarted it took off like the Batmobile. What a nerve-racking journey. I got the fuel injectors replaced cheaply with Chinese knock offs. The car idled fine at find it first, after replacing the fuel injectors. The car ran for two minutes and then died with a bang so I got out to see what might be going on. Hell the car was on fire. I got seven injectors correctly seated in the upper rail. One of them was Cockeyed gasoline was pissing out that fuel injector at the rate of 2 gallons in two minutes emptying the tank. What a carbeque. All these bullshit videos never worn you to check for gasoline leaks before starting the vehicle. Fortunately my neighbor came over and put out the fire with the extinguisher. I tried to put the fire out with the garden hose and made it much worse. Now I’ve got battery trouble. The tow truck driver killed the battery leaving the key in the on position. This happened a number of times taking the car to various mechanics. None of them could find the problem they wanted to replace the throttlebody. It never occurred to them to check the fuel injectors which are easy to access on this vehicle. Getting the fuel injectors off other vehicles is a nightmare. The fire may have damaged the electrical system. For sure they had to replace the fender liner. I’m holding off on replacing the splash shield under the bumper till I can get the car running. The fender liner was wrapped around the tire I had no choice. And the fender liner is relatively cheap. So despite taking towing the car to the mechanics who did nothing but bill me for useless fix what isn’t broke bullshit, I ended up having to fix myself. If the car hadn’t caught on fire I had it fixed. And it was really easy working on it. The guy from Chicago on RU-vid S. Main St. fixed a car A 2003 Cadillac Deville just like mine and found that the flu injector was stuck open flooding the engine. That was my clue that the mechanic was full of BS about the throttlebody.
Mine had the same problem, I’m sure a lot of people had this problem because these engines and car in general have a lot of them. Crazy yours happened at only 106k though
This guy bought a lemon I have mines for 16 years 2006 to 2010 are the best skip with this dude talking about he got a limit and trying to bash the whole series of cars
I owned a 2006 and a 2008 DTS; and drove over 100K miles. Never had any sort of trouble at all. I'm sorry that your DTS was a disappointment. Mine were great.
My 2007 has 203k and runs so smoothly and powerful. A few minor issues like a Freon leak and valve cover gasket leak. Paid 1100. Had the check engine light on Traction Control light and the oil pressure sensor light. But as soon as I fixed the check engine light because of a bad coil all the lights went off except the oil sensor which comes on when I hit a road imperfection. Otherwise it drives like a dream and hasn’t overheated even though my fans are not coming on. I was told fixing the air conditioning would solve this after I had already replaced the thermostat and ect sensor.
Had the bench seat one 2006 had no issues with it I do agree that most mechanics don’t like working on them tho a lot of work requires dropping the motor
To add, it's worth it to find a mechanic that understands the northstar and doesn't mind working on them. When repaired right, they're a heck of a car to drive. Lots of power and they ride like a Cadillac.
I got a 2006 with 90k miles got it to 120k then started having overheating issues and oil leaks. Common maintenance aswell adds up got it for $5.5k & have put over $5k into it to keep it alive… it’s worth it to me I love my DTS
I bought a used 2006 DTS for 2300.00 The right ballast on the headlight went bad and was quoted over 1700.00 to fix it. By three different shops. Luckily I sold it and made 200.00 bucks on it. Very expensive repairs on these cars.
Your wrong actually 2007•2011 were very good and a lot of there old major bugs were fixed. Like the head gasket failure issue was fixed gm used longer better head studs. The electronic issue is a gamble just like any other vehicle some are just an absolute common problem others are a hit or miss. As far as issues with injectors that’s not a common issue. Overall by the looks of it your dts didn’t receive proper routine maintenance the body shows she was treated fair about it.. if you properly maintain a dts and don’t beat them you’ll make 200,000+ guaranteed on a factory motor and if you service the tranny every 30k you’ll also hit about 200,000. The only issues the 2007+ have that are common are water pump, or the plastic heater inlet t and hoses crack and get brittle.. fuel lines and transmissions lines are a issue with age.. and every v8 North Star are about guaranteed with age and mileage to experience oil pan gasket leaks. Overall I recommend a dts if your buying look into how it was treated and go after one that had only 1 maybe 2 owners tops ones that were owned by granny or pops those are the ones that get babied but maintained because they got the bucks to maintain em.
Yea I said don’t buy a cheap one if you don’t want to spend a lotta money on it or need it for reliable transportation. They are for kids since kids can afford them. Some 16 year old kid was gonna buy this one before it broke down.
You should generally avoid buying cheap used luxury cars. If they are very cheap, there is a reason for it. (It will cost you much more than it will be rewarding)
Had a 2000. Loved driving it until it started having cooling problems that just got worse and worse. Ended up overheating and cracking the block. Got a 1996 Fleetwood after. And now driving a 2012 CTS4 with the 3.0 V6. Been very pleased.
sorry that happened to u guy, but in Cadillacs defense i must share with u that have a 2007 looks too and the only problem I've had was something with the exhaust yes i had the cats replaced and manomn duz she run sowe a again sorry u didn't have better luck with your, MAY FOD BLESS.
Just misunderstood. Also sounds like somebody just didn't know how to correctly fix the problem. These issues can happen on any car including any of the older Cadillac's and older engines. This one just turned out to be one that needed the right person to fix. There's always going to be some bad examples here and there like anything else. The cars themselves are excellent, but it doesn't help when whoever is working on the car, doesn't know what they're doing. This is so typical and happens so much on all different types of vehicles. I hope this one ended up in the right new owner.
I had an 06 and I am split it had 90k miles on it when i bought it for 10k and I took it to 213k miles when i got rid of it i owned it for 2 and a half years before i was done with it i had it for a total of about 8 years it was a nice luxurious ride when I had it sunroof remote start heated steering wheel etc and it handled great but there are too many problems with it now to dump More money into it while having 213k miles plus everything for it is expensive and hard to fix for instance 200$ for the battery which is located under the back seat or remove half the grill and front quarter panel to change the headlight bulb and the oroblems u had repaired while owning are 4 coils power steering pump and hoses thermostat motor mount water pump wheel bearing and bulbs at 80$ for one
I have a 2010 dts love the dts. Only problem i have had has been the plastic piece in the transmission that breaks and your stuck in park or neutral or park. Easy fix part was around 5$ then new gasket ,filters and new transmission fluid and it back to being like new. Got the car with 95k and now just hit 100k .
had a sts northstar and xlr ran perfect and the dts was a curse dont know why but dts was cursed took it to mechanics for all kinds of issues never could get it sorted out it would stall at intersections it was like the car tried to kill our family battery dead after two days oil leaked every where you park 120000 thousand miles2008 dts i dont know and neither did anyone else
2007 with over 250k. I pray every day. That 4.6L might be the worst engine design in automotive history, and that's saying something about the same company the put the Quad Four engine on the market. I bought an AAA membership, not for towing but to get me home when the engine blows up. 💥💣🤯
@@MH_BikesIf you don’t need the towing why don’t you just call an Uber? Stupid to waste money on AAA membership when all you need is a got damn ride home. Dumbest shit I’ve read all day. Lol
Ive got a 2006 DTS owned for a month and a half, leaks oil , but paint and interior are almost absolutely perfect. Black with chrome factory wheels. gorgeous car, but a turd.
@@serpentbearer6649 As long as it’s actually been taken care of and you have some extra money to potentially fix some things it should be ok for a little while at that mileage. But in my opinion these engines suck and I’d buy a different vehicle for a daily driver
I'd say some Northstar. Motors are a miss and hit mines has 211000 miles 98 Eldorado and has not given me any problems and andddd I be racing the hell outta it good strong motors unless someone already had replaced the head bolts on this one it doesn't even get to the half mark OK the temp gauge with ac on with a 1hr drive
I dont think this is true...you see more DTS on the road running then a Lincoln. Matter fact I had these cars and just keeping the maintenance up they will run for a while.
