Great tip! Another way would to use the elastic bands that are used to tie up pony tails, pig tails, etc. They are very durable and wont melt like rubber bands. They can be bought in different colors to help locate them or identify different reels and spools.

Hey Brian. Ever tried this method? Tie small knot at the end of tippet, attach an Airlock or Oros indicator on the end behind the knot. When you're ready to fish, you don't have to look for an indicator, its there. Works like a charm!

If you have a smaller or doubled rubber band sitting permanently around the real seat you can just stick the leader through the rubber band when packing it wont come out and no knots needed, and it works when the reel is still on the rod as well.

Thats just simplistically brilliant! (I don’t know why you didn’t think of it either, Mr Brian). Last time I had under wraps I had to peel off line down to the last bit of backing. Took me all of 30 minutes of cussing and uncussing. Thanks for sharing this tip, which most fly instrution vid producers just seem to not want to address because maybe it just too inconsequential a matter.

I cut a V notch and a slit into a piece of cork. I pull the tippet into it, reel it up snug and put the reel into a pouch. It works pretty good.

As always, no matter what problem I have with my fly fishing techniques or equipment, I found the answer with you 🤛🏼. Thank you sir. I have 3 questions please, I fish small ponds and lakes around me and my 9 footer fly rod can be difficult to swing around bushes and trees, would you use a shorter rod? If so, which one would you recommend please? 2: can you do a review on those collapsible fly rods? What do you think about them? 3:would you use a sinking line for bass fishing? Thank you very much

You could always tie the rubberband into a rapala knot or no slip loop or even a perfection loop and you wont have to cut it to get it off! Great tip tho, thank you!

Thanks for watching. We typically don't cut the rubber bands though. Just clip the clinch knot close. Cool thing is that you can use whatever knot that you like.

@@Madriveroutfitters I just figured out an even easier way, If you put the rubbberband so it makes a circle above the tippet, then you just put your fingers inside it and pull the north end under the tippet and through itself, the friction will then keep it there and you can easily undo the knot with your fingers which means you dont have to cut any tippet at all! Essentially creating a dropper loop with the rubber band. Similar to how you would attach weights when trolling for deep zander. Ive found that its both faster and saves more material!

Hi Brian thanks for another Great helpful video . I think I tweaked it a little, let me know what you think , I tie a little loop knot at the end of my leader then pass it threw the hook holder, then just loop the loop knot around the butt end of my rod, you use less leader also . I use to do this but always ended up loosing the rubber bands or they just degrade over time. now I just tie a loop knot only big enough to slip around the back flange of the reel foot. Given the rubber band helps and is better if you don't case your reels individually but if you do tippet stays put and one less thing to keep track of.

Unfortunately I didn't have a rubber band while watching this so I put the tipit through the part of the reel that connects to the rod and then put a strike indicator on it and pulled it tight so it won't tangle, works pretty good..

I’m still kind of a newbie (second year) an I just take my leader off every time. I just watched the video on cutting the loop off an wondered if that would be better. But it’s easy to take the leader off if I continue to use loop/loop

Even if you take your leader off, you can still get under wraps quite easily. But if you take your leader off, the rubber band trick would be really simple. Just use a loop to loop connection between the rubber band and the end of your fly line.
