I wish that Fabiola’s storyline extends beyond her sexuality. For the most part, the screen time she had just regarded to her having a crush, relationships, etc. I really enjoyed seeing Eleanor’s progress in acting to her being with Trent.
yes! I love the queer representation but they should have discussed HER more than just her sexuality. I love they discussed that but it made it seem like she was only there for that ounce of representation ( when she deserves more recognition)
Maybe it was just me but I enjoyed Fabiola talking about her love life cuz we barely saw that on season 1 and 2 so I enjoyed the switch but i do agree it was overdone
Yes, I totally enjoyed her crushing Ben in the drinking quiz, because she was annoyed by his shity arrogant behaviour. I totally loved how casually she flexes with her brains in the same move shows him how that can make others feel.
I agree with you're opinions on Paxton and Devi relationship, it was surprisingly healthy but I didn't think they were meant to be. You're sooo right about the relationship being completely built on Devi's fantasy of this trope of unpopular girl/ popular boy. Honestly I guess it would've been different if Devi appreciated him for something other than his social status and didn't view it as an insecurity. Loved the friendship between them tho
I agree!! Their relationship was built too much on these pre-existing stereotypes Devi had - also I think Paxton made a comment to Devi in season 2 about how it was good they broke up bc they just "didn't make sense", and I think Devi really internalised what he said, which is partly why she was so insecure in their relationship in s3 :(
Something I definitly didn't like this season is that they kept introducing new characters (Haley, Paxton's new gf, Des's friends, Margot, that guy Devi had a kiss with) for 1-2 episodes and getting rid off them when they weren't needed for progressing the plot which felt lackluster
@liliana I should have elaborated what I meant. Maybe they were relevent to the plot but it was just lazy writing for me. The writers took the easiest tropes and run with them, even though it didn't flow with the story. The way those characters were introduced to the plot felt random. I belive the story could have progressed without them or the writers could have reused those characters instead never showing them again. And for the characters that are probably coming back, Margot was introduced to the story very random and too late so watchers didn't have time to start liking her and root for her and the potential relationship with Ben. And the way Fabiola's and Addison's relationship quickly progressed made no sense especially after seeing Fabiola this whole season being awkward and taking it slow with Aneesa.
That’s life though. It’s about Devi and her life, all she knows is that Paxton has a new girlfriend or Des has friends but she doesn’t know much about them and it’s not about them. Once Paxton breaks up with his girlfriend we don’t need to follow her life now

I like the 'am I crushing on my best friend?' representation because that is a real thing people go through in life, I guess I was just more confused because I thought they had such good romantic chemistry when they first kissed... but I guess me being confused was also just me being butthurt cuz I was rooting for them 🤧
I also really liked the idea of Aneesa not having a confirmed sexuality like being bisexual for example - just her figuring out who she is without having to label it immediately. It’s a shame they threw away any possible development for either of them. It honestly just felt like their relationship was written to bloat out the episodes.
I just want to appreciate the writers choice on using a south indian specifically tamil family. As a tamilian I never felt recognised and hated how they only showed indians as coming from the north only as if didn't exist. Props to Mindy!!!
Actually just Punjabi or some times gujrati i never seen other parts of Indian getting represention in western show , just my observation i can be wrong too
@kaavya senthil when did they represent Hindi speakers it's always a dark skin south indian representing indians in western world they don't know north indian exist y'all forgetting about indian stereotype a dark skin people with thick accent gives away north indian wasn't represented even in Bridgerton a Sharma family which is north indian doesn't look majority north indian population

Also, I agree with that Fabiola and Aneesa relationship take too! What was the point of them breaking up?? I was so confused by that whole 180. I 100% disagree. I never felt the chemistry and I feel like the entire point of that relationship was to showcase what they both pointed out when they ended, I thought it was neat.
I was a big fan of how they handled Aneesa and Fabiola’s relationship as a queer woman. When queer girls are younger, we will often just date whoever is also gay because it’s so exciting just to find someone else at the time (even if it’s more of a friendship without the physical chemistry). I don’t think it was weaved well into the story honestly but I appreciated the writers caring that much about queer experiences to find this more “niche” one and represent it!
Something I loved in this season is that Devi didn’t lie to her friends about s3x, she was a way better friend! And I also liked that Devi and her mother had a better relationship
I actually really like that Des’ mom isn’t fully straightforward. I think it’s shows her inner contradictions of wanting to foster wellness first, but not accepting that sickness is part of her or her family - it shows that she doesn’t fully understand how Ayurveda works which I thought was interesting because I think a lot of people also don’t
Aneesa was done so dirty throughout the seasons. Devi spreading rumors about her mental illness, Ben being a condescending boyfriend and obviously still being into Devi and Fabiola not really liking her in the end after Aneesa discovered her sexuality. I have mad respect for her forgiving nature.
I 100% agree with the male bonding storyline . It would’ve been so awesome to see that . Did not like the art class storyline and the new love interest. The potential love story seems forced . Wood shop class would’ve been so awesome to see
As someone with a chronic illness, Never Have I Ever has done so much for me. My illness ended up not being psychosomatic, but my doctors thought it was for a long time and people didn’t take me seriously. Even though the show doesn’t touch on it often, when it has, it really feels so personal. This season with Des being told not to date Devi honestly made me laugh because the same thing happened to me several times in high school by guys and even friends who said I had too many problems. On top of that, the show is so representative for mental health too. I’m really excited for the last season!
Was she out of character though? Before that, her switch in character was foreshadowed when she was being condescending to Nalini and telling her how ‘easy’ Des has been to parent.
As someone who's disabled, strangers, friends, and family members have calmly helped me when I'm overwhelmed like Rhyah did with Devi in the bathroom, and then instantly switch up like she did when I'm not in the room. I've learned that people aren't willing to be disrespectful to your face but are willing to talk to behind your back, in the same way that like they are willing to help someone in trouble but aren't willing to get involve with "the trouble".

i loved all your thoughts and comments and agreed with all of them, i felt sad about Annisa and Fabiola as well, while i loved the fact that they introduced a non-binary character, they didn’t need to make it the reason that Anissa and Fab broke up. They had that awkward friends to lovers moment that could have developed and slowly got more comfortable, which would have been a far better story. also, YESSSSSSS TEAM BEN!!

I loved this video and how you expressed your thoughts on the show. Honestly wish I could just have a conversation with you about it (even if you're TeamBen :P). I have so much to say but I don't want to leave an essay in your comments lol. But on your point about Riyah (Des' mom), to me those choices showed that she has a savior complex. So, whilst she knows what to do and how to help etc, it comes from a place of judgement and condescension because she sees herself as above all of that or better. I think that's why she's okay having the Vishwakumars as "friends" but then doesn't want Devi to stain her perfect son.

Re Ryah’s switch up, we actually did get to see her true yet subtle feelings about Devi. The evening that Ryah caught her son and Devi making out, she drove over to inform Devi’s mom and was very subtle in her disapproval of the kids’ involvement. Ryah was actually expecting that Devi’s mom would stick to her fund about Devi being too young to date. It was a shock to her and to us viewers as well, for Devi’s mom to approve the kids seeing each other. In the scene, Ryah just so happened to quickly recover from her shock.
Awesome video!! Great great points made!! I just wanted to give my two cents regarding Margot and Ben. I feel like in the very end of the show, our main take away will be that we don’t need a relationship to define us or to make us whole. I have a feeling that we’ll see Devi attempt to balance yet another relationship with Ben, but the show hints at HIS indecisiveness through his interest in Margot WHILE being interested in Devi as well. I wouldn’t call NHIE a “romance” or a show in which you have a specific couple you root for all the way through. I have a feeling we’re just meant to root for each character individually yknow? This is just a prediction of course, maybe I’m just trying to justify the use of Margot’s character because of my faith in miss Mindy bahahaha!! But overall I feel like it’s gonna for sure be used next season to help push Devi even further into her self love discovery and her efforts to be content and feel worthy OUTSIDE of a serious relationship.
I just think this season was great but it was too spontaneous. I would have loved to see Nirmala getting serious with someone this year also Devi's character development was well written and i really hope Kamala settles with Manish for real♡

Aneesa learning to be confident in her own sexuality could have been tied in with her past struggles with her eating disorder if the show somehow tied it in with issues of body image or stereotypes about sporty lesbians. For people who struggle with eating disorders, eating and exercising is often used as a coping mechanism to derive a sense of control they feel they lack elsewhere in their own life, by exerting that control over their own body. As Aneesa explored whether she was bi or gay, she could have been exposed to how lesbians are perceived and even fetishized by straight men. Instead the showwriters dropped the ball on further developping any impactful part of the characterization and instead relegated her to a boring, deadend relationship they deliberately wrote as completely devoid of any chemistry. Aneesa discovers her sexuality and is immediately not seen as a sexual being by her significant other. Couldn't they have used that? And of the two exes she had in this season, a boy and a girl, both were more emotionally and seuxally attracted to people other than Aneesa WHILE they were still in a relationship with her. Like, if they really wanted to break them up, couldn't they have shown her lose confidence over that too?
I am also sad about the Fab and Aneesa relationship not working, but I kinda get it. I viewed it as relationships that look good on paper don't always work in practice. Moving from platonic to romantic can be hard for some people and that's okay. But damn they really did Aneesa dirty by her being the second choice twice
As a POC I LOVED Devi with Des!!! But like the mindy project...mindy has a white Jewish guy fetish!!!!... Its annoying to see the consistent patterns... What was nice was seeing rapper Common with Devi's mom... Lets be HONEST the Indian community doesn't really veture black side of the block... Insert Indian matchamker here lol ... I would have loved to see THAT develop. Team Paxton...hate seeing girls with the mean guy who low key like them. I def dont encourage that.
i absolutely loved all of your thoughts so much!! i especially loved what you said you would change about bens plotline, i would have loved to see paxton and him bond again. also fabiola and aneesa’s plotline was interesting for me cause i could see it coming with how awkward they were being/ the lack of chemistry and direction and so i’m kinda glad they ended it? somebody else already commented this but it was nice to see two queer people being friends and not dating cause i’m queer and all my friends are and even though there’s not a lot of us at school doesn’t mean we are gonna pair off with eachother ya know? that being said i’m almost fully convinced the writers were not doing that and were just confused what to do with them and viewers added their own message to it but either way i really hope aneesa explores her sexuality more next season and ironically enough fabiola doesn’t let me explain lol, basically i hope she can kind of become the shows causal representation. now that her identity is out and known we can get more from her other then her being a lesbian (which i love!). i’m just hoping she becomes a more dynamic character. im suprised you didn’t touch on elenor and trent’s relationship but i’m sure that’s just cause it wasn’t the main thing but i really enjoyed it lastly, i love devi and this show so much and it makes me so happy to see it get sm love and sad to see it end. devi’s growth hasn’t been linear and i think that’s very refreshing to see. again thank you sm for sharing your thoughts on the show, yours is the bes video i’ve seen on this yet :)
I actually think it made sense for devis mom allowing her to date, because Des is indian, was the son of her friend, and he was good at school and had a promising future, that’s all parents want for their kid, specially for them since finding a partner thats also indian is really important And she realised it was better to allow them than having devi continue to challenge her with other boys that she doesn’t know
i was a bit confused on the whole fabiola and Aneesa but i loved it the homage it played to The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love at least that bathroom scene

I think Nalini allowing Devi to date Des was quite believable. While indian parents hate school kids dating in general but i have seen time and again that when they think their child has actually chosen someone great, someone who is an absolute catch and also someone they can trust, a lot of times indian parents do agree, specially the somewhat liberal ones who have experienced love in their life. Yes, Nalini was tough on Devi and yes she always thought guys were a distraction but at the end of the day she is a modern indian woman who has a career, is handling single parenting quite well and who was absolutely unconditionally in love with her husband. So while she does give Devi tough love but Nalini is what you call a coconut, she gives a very strict vibe from outside but she is actually a softie at heart, you often see that in the way she is so understanding about Kamala and her love life and how she comforted Devi after she confided in Nalini that some guy broke her heart. She also really liked Des and she had lived in USA for a while where kids date so i think she finally thought rather than Devi doing things behind her back she would much rather know about what's going on and she thought she could trust Des, that he was quite the catch.
You explained it perfectly. I feel like it was also good that Des mother was her friend. And she knew that Des was a good student based on the conversation they were having at dinner. And like you said she was very supportive of Kamala helping her moved out.
Great take on this season, I really enjoyed your video! For me, a major issue in this season was how fast Devi got over Paxton, in the previous seasons she was completely obsessed with him since a young age so how did she just forget about him so quickly? Also, Paxton seemed to still be into her with that scene in her room and the speech he gave during graduation. For me he was a better match than Ben, he had huge character development throughout all 3 seasons and seemed to really like her. Ben on the other hand was constantly being rude to her and I feel like he’s just there to annoy her, he’s kinda her male version and I don’t think their relationship could last. Devi ending up to his house was weird also because of Aneesa and now her worries in the beginning of the season are justified. I really hope in the 4th season she will finally either find someone else or just be single and care about her own growth.
Personally for Rhyah's behaviour I think it's because while she does care about Devi at least a little bit, she thinks she's protecting her son by not letting him be with someone she deems "damaged" or "unsafe". She's trained in ways to help people and that's why she was so good and caring but she can still have her own judgements. It's confusing, but many moms are like this. They think they're doing the right thing by being indirect like this but they need to learn to get over their own biases.
yeah this is a rant just to spread awareness:/ It is immensely annoying to see Asians as only East Asians and NO South Asians. Even when rarely represented, the character would either do a TERRIBLE brown voice which sounds NOTHING like the Indian English accent or/and would be inherently terrible AT English- aka not knowing enough words, vocabulary, stuttering etc. As an Indian born and raised in India, English is one of the two official languages here and EVERYONE I know is absolutely perfect at everything the language offers- it is the first language for most of us, and pretty much for everyone in urban areas. Then there is the matter concerning an Indian-American (or Indian-Brit, Indian-French... wherever you are raised- your parents are probably immigrants) and an Indian raised in their own country. An Indian-American would speak American English in a white accent, obviously, having been raised there and an Indian would speak English in an Indian accent- (which fyi, SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE THE BROWN VOICE REPRESENTED IN HOLLYWOOD- we do not weirdly stretch words or stress upon syllables AT ALL, it is, in very gross terms, a watered-down British accent- learnt from them after they colonised and stole our wealth and centuries of prosperity) however THERE WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY NO DISTINCTION IN THEIR LEVEL OF PROWESS IN THE LANGUAGE. This is quite accurately depicted, atleast to a great extent in Never Have I Ever. fyi 2.0, the Indian accent sounds nothing like Raj's from Big Bang Theory( WHAT EVEN IS THAT ACCENT NOOOO) and none of us are weird socially awkward geeks who can't approach the opposite sex and WE DO NOT SMELL OF CURRY/GRAVY (thank you very much white stereotype.) The same applies for every ridiculous Indian accent(PLEASE FOR HEAVENS' SAKE GET IT RIGHT FOR ONCE) and stereotyped Indian character in Hollywood. The level of inaccuracy- brown characters directed by ignorant whites who do not have even the slightest clue leaves me utterly flabbergasted. great video btw!:))) keep goinggg
they ruined Fabiola love life to put ben and aneesa appart, with such a dumb excuse (she went to japan???), just to not make them canon anyways and giving her a relashionship OFF SCREEN. Just sorry for people who liked fabiola and her relashionship lol
i feel like it was really obvious that des's mom did not like devi from the beginning. her body language and the way she looked at devi sometimes made it pretty obvious. but she didn't like her for her son, not just because she didn't like Devi. That's why the disdain towards Devi was so subtle. but I think she was right. Devi obviously is going through a lot, and by being her boyfriend, Des would have to help her through it and be there for her. But she knew that Des wouldn't be able to help her, or that it would be a lot and hurt him too. I think she had a point, and if I had a kid I wouldn't want them dating someone who has just gone through an incredibly tragic event and was having all sorts of issues. Love Devie and I root for her, but because of what she was going through, she is not a good girlfriend and literally made the worst decisions all of the time. Des's mom heard about how she got suspended, how Nalani was struggling with raising her, and when she admitted to cheating, I think it makes total sense for a mom to want their kid to have some distance from stuff like that, especially romantically.
i disagree. Her grown-ass son was old enough to take his own decisions. Also I believe if you think you can date someone or want to date someone then you accept them with everything that comes along with them aka their past trauma/current struggles. It wouldve been better if Des said that "I feel like I will get hurt and wont be able to help you" instead of just being a stupid little mamas boy with no brain and making a lame-ass excuse about his mother's refusal.
I think the Haley subplot is accurate. only The exact same thing happened to my best friend multiple times. Sophomore year of high school she was constantly getting DMs from girls about her boyfriend (who, granted, was an F boy). He was an attractive guy though so he got a lot of attention. Some of the girls were well-intentioned and others just wanted to cause drama. NONE of the girls were brave enough to say it to her face though, they all messaged her on Instagram on snapchat
I think Rhyah switching up on Devi was quite realistic. Stereotipically, a lot of South Asian mothers act like a hero in front of you but they're fake behind your back.
@@aggie8115 Part of the issue is that you're not offering genuine support for someone who is struggling if you also act like their struggles mean they don't deserve that support because it's burdening others. I get where she's coming from as a mother, wanting to spare her son from taking responsibility for someone else's fraught emotional state when he's young and probably lacks the maturity for a relationship that demands more emotionally. But it's because he's still immature that she should teach him to handle his relationship with girls with more maturity, even if it means prioritizing himself
For me, Rhyah switching up really wasn't surprising. Remember the first encounter Nalini had with Rhyah, she was being arrogant and condescending in a tone where she's like saying it as a good thing, that was already like a foreshadowing on what Rhyah's true personality was. We can see that at first Nalini didn't wanna involve herself with Rhyah because she already sounded like a bitch lol. But I'm glad that Nalini gave the friendship a chance, kinda like a benefit of the doubt of her first impression. I think it's an accurate representation of how some friends can be toxic while masking it as if they have good intentions and making it seem like you're not being grateful to them.
Exactly I didn’t find it surprising either! Especially when Nalini was expressing how she was worried about Devi and then Rhyah said she was grateful Des never gave her problems. And then when she tried to tell Des when she caught them kissing that Nalini didn’t want Devi to date then Nalini surprised her with saying yes and Rhyah was like uhhhh are you sure?.. Those were the moments I knew Rhyah was going to stop them from dating.
omg an indian creator finally reviewing this show! i agree with you sm, and you articulated most of my thoughts after this season so well! like the academic rivals to lovers? count me IN and also how horribly they directed fabiola and aneesa's relationship. ok but Rhyah. im born and bred Indian. and people (especially 'modern' aunties) like Rhyah are so common to encounter, you can't even imagine. And they are SUCH good actors too like wth. It was so interesting (and pretty realistic ngl) to see a 'wellness' doctor stigmatise devi's situation. It's like they say, advocate for mental health until it gets messy. She knew how to handle the situation because of being a doctor ofc, but turned on her heels behind devi's back! I believe a couple episodes ago, she was also patronizing Nalini because 'Des is so easy' and what not. So I saw shit hitting the fan coming. Nevertheless, really liked to watch Nalini have a female friendship and a social life!
When Des's mom caught devi and des making out...and she said they can't date because Nalini doesnt allow devi to date, it was kind off visible on her face that she is the one not wanting them tondate...so when i was watching i kind off knew she did nt liked devi..u wwtch that scene you will feel it too. And yes team Ben all the way..not in my teens anymorenstill get those teen butterflies of first love seeing them.
I kinda disagree about your take on Rhyah. I do agree that it's realistic and that it might have just been an interesting Director's choice. I think Des' mom helping Devi in the bathroom was set up strategically, so that the big 'shock factor' would be that she wouldn't let Des date Devi after. But unfortunately, I have come across aunties who were nice to my face, but would talk trash about me to *their* own kids or other aunties. The two-faced auntie trope was all too relatable.

I actually think it made sense for Nalani to say that she could date in that specific scenario, but here's why: She was annoyed with Rhyah and could tell that SHE didn't want them to date, and I think she relaxed on Devi for that reason. Almost to call Rhyah's bluff. That was how I saw the situation, anyway.
Hi, I feel like “not Indian enough” should be more of a discussion. As someone from India I always felt conflicted about the Indian characters represented in American television. The fact that they never pronounced their own name correctly and things like tht triggered me. And it wasn’t just limited to Indians but other Asians who didn’t even try to connect with their culture made me feel the same. I have come to realise it’s because them not fully embracing their culture and being embarrassed was felt like a rejection, almost an attack on identity. Like their own culture was not worth it. It also felt like them rejecting their parents. And like I am somehow less for being Indian. Then I did some reflecting and have come to realise it’s all about the environment we grow up. Everyone wants to fit in. Lack of representation, disconnect and lack of information. And that even I can’t write in my mother tongue coz I’m from a city. Even I didn’t try to learn how to write coz of laziness and not having a need to learn. I hope people can understand all this is a personal choice and we don’t have to everyone’s personal opinions so personally
I've never seen a mainland Asian talk about their perspectives on the Asian-American identity crisis!! The whole thing about embracing culture was a form of a combo of internalized racism and assimilation. A lot of Asian-American peers weren't simply ashamed because we were ashamed of it, but because other outside influences like our peers and the wanting of fitting in has such a heavy hand on this as well. A lot of kids, like East Asians and the occasional SEA were made fun of their appearances, like our eyes. There's also the food, our food is obviously amazing but because of this withholding of shame from early childhood is a huge influence on how we want to interact with it. People who have never ate Asian food would go, "It's stinky!" or some other way to make fun of it. Sometimes it is our own parents. Some who didn't feel the need to teach, those who wanted to assimilate and thus banning the culture, and maybe even some ashamed of it as well. There is also numerous stereotypes about us as well that we begin to warp our ideas of validation with invalidation. I've never seen any mainland Asians talk about this stuff at all, but they also have the perception of us being too "American" and not wanting to learn a little bit, and that most non-Asians would see us as "too Asian". Y'know?
@@Yuunarichu when I first started watching American shows, I hated watching the Indian characters…the Indian accent was always fake, the names were odd - like very old fashioned or a combination of first and last name I would never hear or just South Indian-ish names, they would also try to Americanise everything- we don’t have middle names. Here Devi calls the festival “Ganesh Pooja” but I have only heard “ganpati” or Ganesh Chaturthi (it could be regional thing)…the pronouncing of the name by Indians hurts. And then take the nirdesh character here for example , Devi focuses on “nerd” part but not on the actual meaning of the name….we have 28 languages and so much diversity, SO SO much knowledge, like did you know “cash” is a Indian word? But the country itself keeps evolving. So India (or any other Asian country)now is very different from say 90s or 80s. While I would love to see all Indians know everything about the culture, history and knowledge we have.. it’s not realistic. It’s sad but it’s okay and knowing your is a personal preference/ choice so I get no say what one wants to learn or follow.
Even the actor who plays Devi doesn't know how to pronounce her original name right her real name is maitreyi Ramakrishnan and she pronounces it aa my-tray-e like it gets on my nerves
@@bhavikakosambia3307 Those Indian characters are stereotypes, they obviously aren't real representations of Indian people. Indian-American people's intelligence in films and TV always get the short end and the butt of the joke. Even if this show isn't a real representation to you, the show is so big for Indian Americans because it's the first time they're shown as three-dimensional people and not a stereotypical nerd. And it's a messy life of a teen which makes it better to show the imperfections of a teen, flaws and all.
I love Devi’s outfits. I saw on twitter that her outfits are those of an episode character with no gems and that was so accurate and made me love her clothes
I loved the unhingedness but season 3 was very good. I love Ben tho , Ben is academic rivals to lovers. I really expected this season to be annoying love triangle thing like “to tall the boys i loved before” or “the kissing booth” and this wasn’t that. Season 3 was such a good season
The bathroom scene/Rhyah switch up got to me so hard - the idea that the person helping you and saying all the right things will then turn around and badmouth you for the problems you have is such a real fear and unfortunately sometimes it comes true. If that were me I would feel that betrayal so much more than the break up even though they didn't have much of a relationship up to that point.
It also tracked for me personally in my experience of people in the "wellness" industry and how they tend to a complicated attitude towards mental health that can result in them knowing how to talk someone through a crisis while still holding a stigmatised attitude towards them
Something I loved about this season was Devi telling Paxton to apologise. Like this was before her full emotional growth and she already was able to put another woman’s feelings first, potentially risking her relationship by admitting to Paxton she’d carried on talking to the anonymous person. I agree, I rooted for her even when she was behaving awfully and it was nice to be able to root for her with good reasons.
Des's mom made sense, because the point of her character was she was fake and thought she was better than Devi and her mother. Because of that feeling of superiority she didn't want Devi and Des to date in the first place. The incident in the bathroom was just the thing she needed to give a "logical" reason on why Des should breakup with Devi. She didn't think Devi's mom would say yes, but never wants to appear like she's the bad guy to outside people. Her entire facade is to throw a stone and then hide her hand. I know quite a few women like that irl.
yk I appreciate Nalini helping her out with the advice but idk Kamala reminds me so much of my sister, clearly she's a career women who doesn't want to get married young ( I'm not sure what age she's supposed to be, but I'm going to presume season 1 she's in her very early 20's mayve 22/23 and season 3 she's 25 ) it doesn't matter how in love with someone she is, she's not ready and Kamala was probably used to being liked by aunties she's gorgeous she's smart she's tapped into her culture I feel as if she was a people pleaser
i was so excited about fabiola and aneesa. it did make me cringe because it was so awkward but it would have been really fun to see how they worked through that and learned how to navigate the dynamic but then they broke up because of a random side character who doesnt even seem like they have that much importance?? just give us a happy wlw relationship NHIE i am BEGGING
I feel like Des's mom knew what to do and did it genuinely as part of her job and passion. But when it comes to her own son and family that is a complete different subject. So she threw the genuine and nice out the window and tried to spook her son out with less compassionate language. She protects him from Devi in her own way, which AHHHH made me so angry but I thought it showed how two faced people can be. The nicest person when it is someone else's drama and turning the switch when it touches their own life.
i think an important part of the szn was everyone's growth which i love and it was actually a good szn, i didnt like aneesas and fab's arc cuz they had no chemistry together and it seemed forced, i didnt like des's mom cuz she was manipulative, i hope aneesa finds someone tho
I have to defend Des, he defended Devi when his mother talked smack about her. He even avoided Devi because she loved her and didn't want to break up. When the moment of truth came he told his mother to admit what she said. Des was just caught off guard by everything that went down. He never agreed with his mother's opinion, he simply didn't want to have to chose between this mother and his girlfriend. South Asians are super family oriented in most cases so being placed in that scenario is the worst nightmare. Des even in the end when he left said sorry and that he didn't mean for things to go the way they did.
Do keep in mind by “avoiding her” your words not mine he actually lied to her about where he was several times. And even if he didn’t agree with his mother’s opinions he didn’t even attempt at trying to stand up for Devi even in the slightest. I understand it’s hard for south asian, men particularly, to go against their mother’s wishes but this is his gf & gf’s mother who went through a traumatic thing he could least show a little sympathy empathy or something like “hey mom cut them some slack they went through something horrible” but no he’s just immediately like “I’m not gonna risk pissing off my mom for this she pays my phone bill! Like boy go to hell then have some comparison
I think one of her growth her communication skills in her relationship with des. Every-time she and des had a conflict. She communicated, but des didn’t. I think dr Jackson’s advice really stuck with nalani last season I think he really did help nalani with her parenting. So that’s where I disagree with you.
As for aneesa, I get the since that aneesa’s family is strict about dating but also maybe queer phobic. Based on the comment aneesa made about the speech her mom makes “about how girls dress like boys.” So I think there I think aneesa is still figuring out being queer. Aneesa could be Pansexual, could also be queer with gender idenity too. But maybe that will be explored in season 4.
