It's a movie IN THEATERS. How many docs get a chance like that these days? The problem is a whole generation who are now adults think it is normal and righteous to "deplatform" rather than engage with ideas. Film critics of the 90s would jump at the chance to trash (or praise) a movie like this. They would not only review the persuasiveness of the movie, but they would critique the quality of the filmmaking itself.

Reviewing a movie isn’t a problem - hell, there’s reviewers out there who have reviewed “Birth of a Nation” and no one’s cancelling them. Pretending like Matt Walsh’s latest “the west has fallen” propaganda flick is anything but is the issue people take, I think. Partially because it VERY plainly puts Jeremy’s politics front and center, and I’ve liked his videos precisely because they avoid politics.

It's a bit of an overreaction to suddenly think he's a right wing nut case if you ask me. Have you seen his review? Where does he point out his political stance? Your comment is "I've liked his videos precisely because they avoid politics" and his entire review of the movie still upholds your value. Even "if" he swung a certain politic way why would that even matter for him to be attacked?

@@XInoAricinNilo I mean for one, he very clearly follows Matt Walsh well enough to know who he is and be surprised that other people don’t, so that pretty solidly places him on the right because Matt Walsh is… also very solidly on the right. Dude wants to ban porn, weed, and gay marriage (although if his support for Uganda’s anti-LGBT bill is anything to go by, “ban gay people” might be more accurate). Have to keep marrying 16 year olds legal though, since adolescence is a modern concept 🙄 So yeah, that plus the fact that he liked it means that he’s at the least very likely right wing. Does he deserve to be attacked for it? Well, not if by “attacked” you mean physically attacked or stalked. But if you just mean people disparaging him on the internet, then I think it’s hard to say that that’s a terrible evil thing. A lot of people are probably quite disappointed that a previously apolitical reviewer has taken a stance like reviewing a flat out propaganda piece. Although knowing his politics now, it actually puts a lot of his past reviews in a different light, tbh. And is going to make me view his future reviews through that lens. Again, that’s why it’s so disappointing. I didn’t need or want to know that Jeremy liked Matt Walsh. I’m trying to think of a comparison and like… imagine if he reviewed a “documentary” by that streamer Hasan called “The Not So Secret Racisms of the Right” And he called it entertaining. You would be pretty sure you know what his politics are after that, right?
