Hello and welcome back to my channel. My name is Beatrice, and today I have a book review of the novel Never Let Me Go by contemporary author Kazuo Ishiguro. This is a bit different for me, as I normally focus on Jane Austen or religion and literature, but I love this novel, so I hope you enjoy this video! I'm going on maternity leave next week, and I'll return to make a video on Jane Austen once I'm back.
Thank you for watching!

Thank you for giving me this novel, Beatrice. Thanks also for the contribution on RU-vid. The characters are very real and coherent, and you can perceive the author's desire to show how much they have a soul. In fact, the writer never shouts out his opinion, for example we will never find the protagonists openly discussing the dystonia of their world. However, showing the liveliness of the soul of these is precisely an indirect way of showing the price that this world demands to be paid. It is one of the saddest and most depressing books he has ever read, but somehow also nostalgic and sweet. This aspect of sadness and depression derives from the despotic world in which the events are set, a decidedly plausible and futuristic world. The resignation with which the protagonists accept their fate is the aspect that impressed me the most. thank you for suggesting it, for the benefit of those who haven't read it yet, Beatrice Very many compliments once again, dear Beatrice

I'm always looking for contemporary novels that are worth reading. I need snapping out of a prejudice against them as not up to par with the greats! CS Lewis' "That Hideous Strength" is a sci fi with a lot of contemporary resonance. Also, Walker Percy's two futuristic novels dealing with human and social engineering: "Love in the Ruins" and "The Thanatos Syndrome", are really compelling!

Those are great recommendations- ones that have been on my reading list for a while as well! And I'm the same, I have a prejudice against contemporary fiction, but occasionally I find an author that's really worth reading. Ishiguro is one of those for me!!

Ironically, I was just reading about, and viewing, the perfectly preserved mummies of 16th century Inca children who were part of child sacrifice rituals. Several were found frozen on mountain summits in Argentina and Peru. They were plucked from their families because of their physical perfection and raised with the elite for their eventual sacrifice. Thank you for this review, I'll look for the book. I'm only familiar with the film of "Remains of the Day".
