Imagine, someone just broke into your house , you rush in your room and locked the door and all you hear is this video playing in the background what is you doing ?
Thank you so much, me and my sister were locked out and panicked. We watched a couple videos before this but none of them worked, until you. You're a lifesaver 😭😭😭
My bf locked himself out of the house trying to bring the cat in before a big storm and got caught in the rain. No idea where the spare key was, had to leave work to rescue him but the real hero here was your video. Thanks so much!! Would not have been able to do it otherwise.
This worked! Thank you! Accidentally locked our bathroom door and we were about to call a locksmith at 1 in the morning. My husband pulled & wiggled the door while I pushed the card in. Success!
thank you so much! we were about to call a lock smith after my brother locked us out of our bathroom and this was literally the only tutorial after hours of fiddling with the door that actually worked. you sir are a saint.
I tried this and oh my god it worked .... I got locked out of my bedroom. Didn't have any of my cards on me. Luckily I had plastic playing cards and it worked. thank you so much Pat for this video, saved my ass today.
Your technique only works if the door is out of alignment or the strike plate is installed incorrectly. If installed correctly the deadlatch is engaged/depressed when the door is closed and the latch will not retract with your “card” or by any method like that. If your door opens with a “card” you need to call a professional and have it adjusted correctly.
yes this problem with me , i locked outside of bathroom and our door dont have even space for air, it not allow card to go inside. it only possible if door have space to push back
If you painted the door various times without removing the previous paint, the door and frame are tighter and also would make the card trick just jam into the previous paint and get stuck.
Thank you so much dude I just got stuck in the toilet 10 minutes ago with my dog and I didn’t have any card so I used my toothpaste instead and it worked 😭😭❤️
Thank you, wow I was going to give up and break the wood. I saw your video and something about when you said to pull the door close against the credit card my bathroom door just opened. I kept praying I know God led me to your channel because no other video had details like you did. Thank you again. 🙏❤️
Usually bathroom ( and most bedroom doors with locks) have a simple " defeat" for situations like that. Some will have a horizontal or vertical slot that looks decorative, which you can turn a quarter turn with a kitchen knife or screwdriver. Most though have a small hole in the centre of the knob. You can push in a stiff pin like a very thin screwdriver, or maybe even a bent Bobby pin. Best though, is a WIRE coat hanger, the curved top part of which has been bent more or less straight. Push the straightened part straight in, gently, and turn the knob. If it doesn't work at first, slightly reorient the hanger or make certain the straightened part is really straight. It is all much easier than it sounds. And less dramatic than breaking the door trim wood.
And this is why on exterior doors, only the deadbolt should be keyed if you really want to be secure. When you have both, too many people only use the doorknob lock, which can be bypassed with a credit card as you've shown. In addition, you'll never lock yourself out when only the deadbolt is keyed.
Growing up my mom got tired of sister and I loosing our house keys, so she taught us this 😅 When I got my license i started using it to open the door (bc i always had it on me), don't use your license lol. The plastic covering came off and those notches were deep! I've only had to explain why it was that way to a few officers. It was always a bit amusing watching them make sense of it 😂
Great tutorial. However, I should note, considering that it's thinner and has a natural curve to it, a strip of plastic cut widthwise from a soda bottle works far better than a card.
@@dorismar5927 we had to call a locksmith $330 mistake, once we saw the lock there was no way we would have gotten it. With older apartments the wood is often warped by heat and humidity, and the locks are usually thicker 🤷🏻
That's actually a dead locking latch which wasn't installed properly. The small tab at the back of the latch you're pushing in, isn't supposed to go into the recess in the frame. It's designed to stay extended which then prevents the latch from being pushed in (you can actually test this with the door open). When you pull the door closed really hard, what you're probably doing is pulling that little latch into the recess and as a result allowing your latch to be pushed in. If you want to make sure your doors are not able to be shimmied (for security) you need to readjust the strike plate and recess.
@@reginaldgarcia9159 I wasn't criticising the technique but actually describing the actual function of that particular latch (deadlocking latch). If they are installed correctly they are impossible to shimmy by design.
Locked myself out of the house and my car keys are attached to the house key, and, of course, my wallet was in my locked car. Luckily I had some business cards in my pocket and I smushed them together and this worked perfectly! Now I might still make this graduation on time 😂
Lol it worked! Had to sweat quite a bit before it finally opened the door. My Mom thinks shes the hero tho cause she just twitsted the Knob a little towards the end. But i was sweating bulets for 10 minutes. Ok mom! My hero! Saved me the embarrassment from calling my contractor friend 😅😂😂😂
