The thing about Huey is he's not unfamiliar with the show, at all, in fact he even hosted it once! I might just be projecting a little but I personally felt he was picking up on the show's quality going downhill. To me the show eventually reached a point where it started to gradually lose its punkish edge. Now, I'm not one of those "ermehgerd it went woke" saps; Buzzcocks could be fucking hilarious without breaking any political correctness boundaries so the idea that they _needed_ to be offensive is preposterous. Even during the days of Mark Lamarr. I'm not saying I minded it when they were offensive, just that they never needed to be in the early days to be hilarious (I still got a laugh out of Bradley Walsh's antics when he was a guest on the show during Mark Lamarr's run, and Brad's about as innocent as you can get). But yeah, somewhere between Amstell leaving and Rhod Gilbert taking over as permanent host the show just felt...flat and strangely artificial and I can't help wondering if Huey was picking up on this.....either that or he's just bitter that nobody listens to Fun Loving Criminals anymore. The thing that got me was his whole "I've been on the show 9 times and I'm just tired"....I want to believe what I wrote above is true but at the same time nobody was holding the dude at gunpoint, he could've quietly left whenever he felt like it; pulled a sickie, but instead he goes full blown diva.

Honestly I think what he did was an effort to be overly dramatic because he knows he’s coming off as an ass and he thought (wrongly) that smashing the mug in a big, theatrical outburst would get people to laugh. His reaction was not at something someone in the audience said, but to the presenter announcing the name of the artist whose song the lyrics are originally from, Kavannagh(sp?). He exclaims “who the fuck is that?!”as he smashes the mug, making the same point that he tried to make earlier in the clip that the reason he’s getting angry is that he feels like they’re intentionally giving lyrics he either has no chance of knowing because they’re by obscure British artists, or giving him lyrics from his own songs. He’s saying they’re trying to make him look stupid by inferring that if it’s not his own song lyrics then he’s not intelligent enough to know them. He’s probably got a point to be honest. But that’s no excuse, he knows the format of the show very well considering how many times he’s been on it. Musical guests who come on are almost always either obscure or irrelevant as no popular artist with any street cred and the slightest ego would come on the show because of how much indiscriminate verbal abuse the presenters always gave. They were known for finding it notoriously hard to book guests to come on. The only ones that would come on were those that were desperate for any kind of shameless exposure they could get, or they were really good sports who had no problem with spending the whole show being the butt of the presenters’ jokes. I think what we are seeing is a guy reaching his mental breaking point in having to accept he’s not as famous or popular as he thinks he still is. He’s still a dick for being like that though lol

Tons of celebrities/musicians use drugs - just that a lot of them can keep their shit in-control and don't let it show too much on the surface as much as others.

That arrogance is precisely their downfall, because life is never truly controllable. For the 90% of your life that things may feel in control, it's that 10% that destroys an addict. How many homeless and people with criminal records are addicts? That's what you want to think about when you look at substance abuse. And most musicians and celebrities don't actually use drugs. You know what you get when a celebrity has an addiction? Lindsey Lohan. A musician? Pete Docherty. People who can barely tie their own shoelaces let alone be on time and professional. Recovering addicts spend years trying to regain and rebuild the respect and trust that's destroyed by their substance abuse. It's very easy to lose those things. And Amy Winehouse is a sad example of where it will go eventually.

No way was that a psychotic episode! He cogently explained why he was angry/bored, just didn't deal with his frustration appropriately. 'Mental illness' doesn't need to be trotted out as an excuse for every emotional outburst or antisocial behaviour.
