After trying for a long time I saw there is a place on the door of the gas cap to set the cap in while you are fueling and decided to use that and hell with the rubber string!
@@BeachsideHank OH SHIT!! I just found out my car does NOT have a place on the door to place my gas cap! I put it under my armpit.. It refreshes my scent!! Smell me HANK!!
@@craig1082 Neither does mine, I'm gonna park it in an empty lot, stuff a rag down the fill pipe, light it and walk home and call the cops saying it was stolen- let my insurance company eat it, now that's how you replace a busted string fill cap.
Thank you for the information. I noticed that when you took the cap off, your tank did not have one of those mirky clear things that I see on a lot of vehicle gas tanks. Mine does not have one either. Is that normal?
You Can Buy a Separate Tether But You'll Have to Look for it ! If That wasn't Bad Enough " The one I found Only Cost " Slightly Less then the Cap Itself The other Caps With The Tether only costed Slightly More ( about one dollar ) then the Free-Standing Tether !
Thank you so much for showing this video - I had no idea how to replace my petrol cap and I just went out to my car and realised I hadn't clicked the cap!
Hi Paul, great information ! Auto Zone now offers a kit to replace just the tether on a gas cap. The kit has several pieces to help adapt it to your cap, and is relatively inexpensive.
This is why Toyota is better than honda haha. Trying to change the tether on a 2006 civic and there’s no video on youtube showing how to do it. Small clip that you have to open instead of just pushing it through like this camry smh
How about a video showing how to remove the tether strip from one old gas cap and then installing it on a new gas cap that doesn't have a tether strip?
This literally just happen to me yesterday, didn't screw the cap far enough and check engine light came on with the code P0441"Evaporative Emission control system incorrect purge flow" well....lesson learned.
Thank u sir! My teacher just broke and I'm now waiting on my new cap but I wanted to de-grease the whole area before installing the new one and o boy was I struggling to try and pry it out before I saw this video 😅 thank u for all ur help, God bless! ❤
Thank you! My check engine light has been on for weeks and all the auto places tell me it's my gas cap [i don't believe that tho] and i have no idea how to get the tether off. I was so scared I was going to break it, now I know I can use pliers and be rough with it. I'm gonna go out and do that now in fact. Thank you!!
Thank you so very much. Honda wanted to charge me to put it in, thats after I paid 42- for the damn thing. Looks like I'll be looking at your videos to save money.
I'm so scared of my taco getting messed with through the gas tank that I just received my stant locking cap.. Will install tomorrow 👍thank you for the tip for getting the tether off.
@@uno3863 I'm afraid to take this taco on a trip across the states, because fuel has shot up to over $3.00 per gallon now too. It's precious liquid, and my taco already gulps it. I did not have this problem with my Camry. I cannot find a lockable fuel door for my taco either. Manufacturers make tethered locking fuel caps for other cars, but not for a Taco
Just because I switched out the gas cap. That would not cause ny battery to drain, would it. I changed the gas cap, plugged in my OBD II reader, turned the key to the on position , all dash lights came on, and a first, wouldn't go off, then everything shut off, and battery is now dead. Any ideas on what I did wrong
I'm having an issue with the gas cap being lose even after putting a new one on. If I slightly turn the cap to the left it easily comes free. It's like it's just sitting on the rim without being secured by the seal.
