The premise of this film was so much fun to explore! I loved the world building and the relationship between the family members. But boy, that intro was intense! Enjoy :)

Im glad you knew drowning in corn is a real thing. I've seen lots of reactors who think that is silly. Grain entrapment is definitely real and very dangerous. 'Workers in the grain can become entrapped in three different ways: an apparently stable surface may in fact be a "grain bridge" over an area beneath which the grain has already settled; a vertical mass of grain settled against a wall may suddenly give way while being cleared; moving grain will not support the weight of an average person. Once entrapment begins, it happens very quickly due to the suction-like action of the grain.' Once you are knee-deep or so it becomes basically impossible to get out on your own. The weight of the grain won't crush you, but you will slowly suffocate unless you find an air pocket and people are actively trying to help you.
@VelkanAngels
@VelkanAngels Месяц назад
Depending on the size/fineness of the grain, maybe one could create an airpocket by cupping their hands over their mouth before the face gets covered, leaving only small slits between the fingers? Not that I'd have the clear-thought in such a moment to actually be able to do that, though, I'm only speaking theoretically :l
@samansu9106
@samansu9106 Месяц назад
@VelkanAngels I think that may help, but trying to get a person out can take hours. One man who survived was buried for 5 hours before they got to him and his heart rate when they freed him was like 173. He was very close to his maximum heart rate and had to be hospitalized for 2 days after. The temperature can also be very cold in the center of the grain or very hot in the silo in general, so the temperature extremes also pose a danger.

11:38 "I wonder if living in naturally noisy areas is safer" I've pondered this myself, and seen a lot of people discuss why they wouldn't just live near the waterfall, but there would be significant drawbacks. They'd have to build shelter and storage, which might be louder than the river, and would definitely be very labor intensive. Living close enough to the water to take advantage of the sound, but not so close as to have moisture issues in any dwelling you build is probably not possible. Finally, a constant sound loud enough to cover average living sounds would more than likely cause hearing damage to the hearing family members in the long term, and would cover up the sounds of nearby monster attacks in the short term. They are super lucky to have access to enough land to grow food for an entire family and the supplies and skills to preserve food.
@grimdeathkid
@grimdeathkid Месяц назад
If you found a pre-existing building somewhere that was really noisy you'd probably choose that over somewhere not there. but since building anything substantial in silence is a no go, you just got to take what you get. Tents etc aren't even an option because they make so much noise. Then again given the way one went under the water in the basement, they seem to be like slightly amphibious or something so maybe you don't want to be near water ever since one could just be swimming around under there.
@eternyti
@eternyti Месяц назад
What I find the most compelling about this movie is that the message of it is interconnected to and an inversion of the whole plot and conflict. Beyond the surface problem of "super-hearing aliens will kill you if you make noise", the message and plot underneath the bigger plot is the dangers of not communicating and staying quiet / keeping things to yourself that are better said, especially since you never know when that chance will be lost forever. The daughter not talking to her father about her guilt, the father not talking to the daughter about his love and not blaming her, and the husband / wife not talking to each other about losing their son. Several problems and dangers in the movie are a direct or indirect result of the family not communicating with each other when they should.
@Br0nto5aurus
@Br0nto5aurus Месяц назад
There are probably a dozen ways Reagan (the daughter) or the parents could've prevented the boy's death, but if you want a devastating opening scene like that, something has to go wrong. I attribute their errors in judgement/awareness to being in such a stressful scenario for such a long time. After almost 3 months of worrying about *every possible source sound*, their brains have probably become very fatigued. I play a lot of video games. So when I saw that scene, I thought, "Surely batteries are very useful for flashlights and such, and will soon be hard to come by, if they aren't already. I'm surprised the dad didn't pocket them." Could've saved the kid's life. Or, being a very young child, he could've sneezed, coughed, or cried at the wrong moment and died anyway.

About the situation of John not letting her go with them, I feel it is less about him not trusting her or even her deafness. She is incredibly brave and capable which is why he couldn’t let her go. The brother was crippled by his fear and in a world like this, that alone would get him killed. He needed to overcome it and to know how to take care of himself without being overcome by his fear. And as far as guilt goes, it think every single person (maybe excluding the son to an extent) was so consumed by their own guilt for what happened to the littlest that they didn’t realize the others were hurting as well, especially the father/daughter. He was trying to put on a brave face for his family and she took that and anger/blame towards her. I don’t think he understood her anger or how to help her, so he showed his love in other ways, like trying to fix her implants. It’s a very tough situation within an already tough existence. Also, as a woman who has given birth twice, the fact that she was silent for the majority of her labor is INSANE!!!!
@EChacon
@EChacon Месяц назад
Worth noting that the first 35-37 minutes of the film is without ANY dialogue due to the creatures that hunt by noise hence why the family only relied on Sign Language to communicate and the first lines of dialogue happened when Lee and his son Marcus were talking at a waterfall area. However there were only five minutes of spoken dialogue in the entire film. Finally, here’s one thing that makes me curious how does sand trail literally stop the sound and noise from attracting those creatures and secondly how in the heck does the family avoid not sneezing, because sneezing often happens suddenly and without warning due to allergies so either they have a strong immune response from allergies or something.

One reviewer I watched explained kind of like this. The creatures seem to be attracted to large and/or constant sounds. At one point it the movie, the family is playing a board game and a lamp gets knocked over, but, even though one of the creatures was close by, none of the creatures when straight to where the family was. As for constant sounds, mainly it's something like the toy rocket that isn't already a natural noise, like rivers and the waterfall. Small sounds don't seem to draw them, or maybe it needs to be above a certain decibel level for them to pinpoint the exact location from just one sound

Could only imagine how intense the sound is in your headphones haha. To answer the Clicking sounds, they made it using a Stun Gun, but inspired by Bats and utilization of echolocation as well as other inspirations found in Nature. But the Grain Entrapment is a dangerous occurrence that happens in most grain silos, had done research about it some months ago. But there's actually 3 types of entrapments, but either way, the pressure of crushing and suffocation happens within just a matter of minutes. So it's incredibly dangerous.

I need you to see Wonka. I loved it so much. For me, it felt like a classic Disney movie, the music, the tone, the old timey, charming feel, and the fact that its' main character is an orphan. Walt Disney was an orphan, hence why so many of the main characters in Diseny movies were are. Granted, it was never said in the Roald Dahl books that Wonka was an orphan, but I think it's fine for a director to do his own take on an adaptation. It's a story that's running on pure emotion and therefore magic. The moment we question the magic, we spoil it. This is childhood magic, it's not supposed to be questioned, it's just meant to happen.

When I saw you'd reacted to this, I knew immediately I'd love this video, and I did! This movie is incredible, but I find reactions to it to be hard to watch because people often don't understand the daughter and judge her behavior harshly, not realizing that she's A) still grieving for her brother, B) still feels responsible for his death, and C) is a teenager on top of that in a very stressful scenario. Her behavior is understandable. I knew you'd see that with the empathy I've come to expect from you, and I was not disappointed :) Also, just FYI, the actor who portrays the daughter is actually deaf IRL, and as a disabled person myself, I respect the HELL out of John Krasinski for the decision to include a disabled actor in a disabled role. It can be difficult to watch an abled actor play a disabled person because for one they often get it wrong, and for another, it takes the opportunity away from a disabled actor who has many fewer opportunities than an abled actor does. And this young actor did a phenomenal job in her role, and it means a lot for people like us to see one of our kindred be given the opportunity to shine. :)

By far my favorite horror movie, and I think one part of why I like this movie is because of the girl who is deaf and not being able to hear without the hearing aids or whatever there called. I find her relatable since I became entirely deaf in one ear after my ear drum explode from being sent outside without a cold in the dead of winter. It was honestly a nice movie to watch without having to have the volume super high just to be able to hear what was going on. And the other half is that I'm an absolute sucker for the monsters, they are so interesting and the concept of having to be quiet in order to not attract any noise. I cry pretty readily at movies, and TV shows, hut this is one of the very few movies that makes me audibly weep every time. That moment where Lee sacrifices himself for the kids, but only after reassuring his daughter that he loves her and has ALWAYS loved her, shatters me every damn time. It really is just one of the most original, most unique, most powerful movies I've seen in a very long time, and I'm glad the one sequel we've had so far hasn't diluted what this movie did so well. The way it used silence, wielded it like a weapon, and forced the actors to do most of their acting without relying on their voices...and I agree, the sound team would have have a field day making this, all the little sounds had so much significance, so much power to move the story along. This movie is proof, if ever it was needed, that taking risks on New is good, and that although sticking with established IP can be a safe bet and isn't always a bad thing, it doesn't have to be the rule.

This was the first post-apocalyptic movie I was ever interested in just because of the sign language so ofc I saw it in the cinema it was something I'll never forget

The intro really set the tone for this whole movie! Also, I wonder why the dad just sacrificed himself at the end instead of at least trying to fight the monster. Granted he was already injured, but I feel like they could have sitched it up later. I wouldn't want to leave my wife to deal alone with two young kids and a baby, so I feel like at least an attempt at a swing of the axe would have been better. But I guess movie-wise it's not as impactful.

I'll forever question why the little boy was last in line. I know it's one of the drivers for the whole movie but you'd think they'd know better. You'd think the kids would be in view of mom and dad under normal circumstances, let alone during a freaking alien apocalypse!!

Such a great film. Some of the shots at the beginning were filmed near where I live.

I am beyond stoked about you finally watching a horror movie! My favorite movie reaction channel is Kat Watches Horror Movies. This is one of my all-time favorites because the suspense in that theater was palpable. I could definitely recommend more if you want!

Brave of you to watch a movie like this with how you're always dying from jumpscares! But I guess that's exactly why I had to see your reaction to it!!! The parents acting is phenomenal. I don't even like the movie that much, but it's still a must watch for those who like the genre. Death by corn gotta be one of the worst ways to go.

Amazing movie. Great acting. If you like Emily she stars in a western series called The English you might enjoy. I did. It streams either on Prime or Netflix. Great reaction... 💯
